[cobirds] Ospreys / Larimer County

2010-04-16 Thread Stacy Taeuber
My second ever post! Apologies if this is common knowledge/old news,
having moved here recently I'm not sure On Sunday I had what I
thought were 3 osprey in a row fly over the road as I was driving
east from La Porte on 287B. When I pulled over and turned around,
there were 2 osprey sitting on the platform on an old utility pole in
the field off of N. Taft Hill Rd and 287B (right where 287/14 veer
north). As I watched, one osprey mounted the other and then after
sitting for a moment took off. It must be spring -- every time I turn
around I'm seeing birds mating! Looks like a nest platform, which is
why I figure maybe this is common knowledge....

[cobirds] Cooper's Hawks and Osprey (Fort Collins)

2010-04-07 Thread Stacy Taeuber

I'm excited to make my first post to the list! I had a lucky day --
biking home I heard "kek kek kek" and looked up to see 2 Cooper's
Hawks mate in a tree on the corner of Smith and E. Myrtle!

I also saw an Osprey ("the" Osprey?) soaring over Eastside Park
(Laurel School).

Yesterday along the East Poudre River by Lemay: a pair of Wood
Ducks, a Kingfisher, a Western Meadowlark, and two deer!
