[cobirds] Ash-throated Flycatcher at Lowell Ponds SWA today
Hi CoBirders I saw an Ash-throated Flycatcher this morning on my usual trip to Lowell Ponds SWA, Adams County, I know it is out of range, but I got a good long look, with binos, from about 3 yards and I had remembered to bring T. Floyd's Birds of Colorado along. The first thing I noticed was its long reddish tail and the large size. I was able to see the bushy crest, wingbars and yellowish belly. It made no sounds. Flew NE toward lake Sangraco and S. Platte. After I got home, I checked my Stokes Guide to Western Birds and the only confusion maybe with a Great Crested Flycatcher. Hi Cobirdersi I saw two American Dippers in Clear Creek just east of Lowell Blvd. (Adams Co). They were feeding near each other, once within a foot or less. As it gets near the end of the season whenI expect to see them here, I've been looking and finding at least one each day since Feb. 24. I also saw some Mallards nearby. [cobirds] American Dippers in Adams Co today
Hi Cobirders In saw two America Dippers in Clear Creek at the I-76 bridges, east of Lowell Blvd. and 55th Pl.(Adams Co.) Although the birds were near each other, I could sometimes see both of them in my binos at the same time, I didn't see any apparent interaction. They both were feeding in the creek, but one was much less active than the other. I watched for about 30 min. Other birds seen nearby included three Black-billed Magpie, a Black- capped Chickadee, and an eastren, female Downy Woodpecer. All the Downys I've seen in northwest Denver and nearby Adams Co. have been easterns. [cobirds] American Dippers in Adams Co today
HI Birders I located an American Dipper in Clear Creek at the I-76 bridges (Adams Co) at 4:42 pm today. Retuning to my car, I found a pair of Dippers below the check dam on the east side of Lowell Blvd at 55th Place. These two birds were foraging and resting near each other. I saw them sharing the same rock. They flew under a bridge abutment supporting the south end of the bridge. I was not able to confirm a nest due to poor light. When I've seen Dippers nearest Lowell it has been late in the day. I also can't say that there were three birds. The Dipper at I-76 was working its way west, and could have flown. I didn't see that, and I didn't return to check Bob Canter Denver, CO -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Colorado Birds" group. [cobirds] American Dipper in Adams Co today
Hi Birders I just found a single American Dipper in Clear Creek at the I-76 bridges, east of Lowell Blvd.(Adams Co). I spent about 30 min. watching it feed and bathe below the weat bound bridge. Along with expected diving and dipping behavior, it also did sort of a hobbled walk along the bridge footing, almost like a shorebird. [cobirds] American Dippers in Adams Co today
Two American Dippers in Clear Creek, Adams Co., this afternoon. I found the first west of Federal Blv'd on the advice of two other birders I saw it about mid-way between Federal and the railroad bridges at 4:15 pm. On the return to my car at 55th Pl and Lowell, I found another Dipper below the check dam, just east of Lowell Blv'd at 4:48 pm. This has been a good spot for Dippers this year. This regularity and the distance to the bird near Federal makes me confident of two individuals.
