dr. rob posted this on BUDD the other day, and though i know these rumors start up from time to time with no apparent reason, one always hope this time it could be for real. i mean, five or six years ago even 'boards of the Academy of Music '72 run seemed like pure fantasy... anyone heard anything? regards, tim. Portchester sbd's?? Posted by: "Rob Bertrando" [EMAIL PROTECTED] rbertrando Fri Oct 6, 2006 1:15 pm (PST) Has anyone heard serious rumors about 1970 Portchester SBD's? RE: earliest Feelin' Groovy
after closer examination, i've started to wonder just how high i was during the first listen! ;^) Phil plays the main riff about three or four times at about the 9:20 mark, the whole affair doesn't really last longer than 10-15 seconds. so not really a Feelin' Groovy jam so much as Phil just teasing it real quick. t. --- Dwight Holmes <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > really? whereabouts?? i think jim qualified the > i.d. of 9-26-69 as the > first FGJ "in dark star". but this is interesting... > > > -Original Message- > > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > > [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Behalf Of Tim > > Anderson > > Sent: Friday, August 01, 2003 5:25 PM > > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > > Subject: earliest Feelin' Groovy > > > > > > was there any consensus ever reached on which show > > contained the earliest Feelin' Groovy jam? > > > > listening to the new Charlie Miller-seeded 4.5.69 > > shows there's a quick minute or so of it from > Phil. > > that's gotta come close to one of the first... > > > > t. > > > > = > > [EMAIL PROTECTED] | [EMAIL PROTECTED] > > http://db.etree.org/t_spaceman > > > > __ > > Do you Yahoo!? > > Yahoo! was there any consensus ever reached on which show contained the earliest Feelin' Groovy jam? listening to the new Charlie Miller-seeded 4.5.69 shows there's a quick minute or so of it from Phil. that's gotta come close to one of the first... t. = [EMAIL PROTECTED] | [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://db.etree.org/t_spaceman __ Do you Yahoo!? 10.30.68 Matrix Correction
Dave & all: Jam (1) contains more than just Clementine hints, it's a full-out instrumental version. If you compare it to 1/26/69, you'll hear that they play the whole squence straight through. This song is suprisingly well-developed on these Matrix shows & 1/26/69, and I wouldn't be suprised if this was played more often in late '68 than we have evidence of. Have any other studio rehearsals of this song leaked out besides what turned up on the remastered AoxomoxoA? tim Band Jerry Garcia And Friends Venue The Matrix Location San Francisco, CA Date 10/30/68 - Wednesday Set One Dark Star Jam > Death Letter Blues ; The Other One Jam > Turn On Your Lovelight Jam ; Jam (1) > The Eleven Jam > Death Don't Have No Mercy ; Jam ; Prisoner Blues (2) ; Jam ; Dark Star Jam Comments The "on the town" column in the San Francisco Chronicle newspaper, by Ralph J. Gleason, which which gave listings of what bands were playing locally, says that "Jerry Garcia & Friends" are playing at The Matrix on these dates (see the San Francisco Chronicle for Monday October 28, 1968 pg 45). Bobby and Pigpen were absent. (1) contains Clementine hints. (2) with Elvin Bishop. On page 26 of issue #34 (Summer 1996) of Dupree's Diamond News, Dick Latvala stated in an interview "What I know exists in our Vault are the shows, and they are on four-track 15 i.p.s." and "There are two dates, 10/28 and 10/29, both of which have four reels. On 10/30 there's a Dark Star Jam into a Jerry vocal, could be Death Letter Blues". He also stated "That's what's written on the box. I haven't listened to it." Recordings 180 SB Circulating recordings of the 1968 Matrix shows trace back to Bill Gadsden's reels. Bill and Peter Kafer made copies of Peter Abram's (owner of the Matrix) two track 7" Scotch reels in the summer of 1974. Peter Abram's reels were either Masters or 1st gens. Jim: I don't believe I was sticking my nose in this controversy beyond pointing out that it is an ongoing phenomena, and the mislabeling will persist due to Bear's and Serafin's efforts. Personally, I think that the attribution of the 2/13/70 early show to the tape that goes around is correct, for what it's worth. tim = [EMAIL PROTECTED] | [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://db.etree.org/t_spaceman __ Do you Yahoo!? Re: 2/12/70
Jim, maybe you should put a bit in the 2.13.70a entry about the ongoing 2.12.70 controversy. It seems that some people (like Serafin) are siding with Bear's statements that the Fillmore early shows never happened. Hence the ongoing circulation of the "2.12.70" date. No one ever seems to notice, however, that Bear states the band played no other NYC shows during that run. Bear's statement is here: http://www.thebear.org/albums.html#anchor753229 Dig the 'ol Bear ego in full effect: "From the feedback I have had, and the tapes I have listened to, I estimate 30% or more of both audience and 'board' tapes/CD's are either mislabelled or faked." Apologies if this has been discussed recently, but I've been away from the Deadlists list for a while. Best, tim --- Marcus Thunich <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > I'm curious about this too.
