Don't know but I can see your reasoning.

Exactly. We would need at least a Recommend here.

Can we use either of these too? I simply don't like the idea of more or less
forcing the usage of wicd for people who otherwise use other tools.

Bug#586875: arch-specific file lists contain files for other architectures

2010-06-22 Thread Julien BLACHE
Package: ftp.debian.org
Severity: important

Hi,

For a few days now, arch-specific file lists under debian/indices/files
contain files for other architectures:

debian/indices/files% grep -c mipsel.deb$ arch-i386.files
4217
debian/indices/files% grep -c powerpc.deb$ arch-i386.files
4340
debian/indices/files% grep -c powerpc.deb$ arch-alpha.files
4340

etc.

This is a very painful bug for partial mirrors relying on these file
lists, as they're now picking up several GB of unwanted data.

Looks like something went wrong, maybe when archiving Etch?

Thanks,

JB.

Again, I honestly doubt that acpid is at fault here as I cannot see a way for
acpid to influence this behaviour.

Please restart your system with acpid disabled and configured to not load any
module. Then load the modules one at a time and check the frequency setting.
Once all modules are loaded you can start acpid to see whether that causes any
change but I wouldn't be surprised if insmod'ing one of the modules causes the
problem.

Of course, RubyEE is not in Debian, and a simple Google search gives
no useful links - just a www.rubyee.com that -to be honest- looks
quite unprofessional an makes me doubt that's what you are referring
to. I guess you meant www.rubyenterpriseedition.com ?

Anyway, yes, Debian packages are _all_ meant to be "sacred" - they are
meant to be installed, but never modified, by the local
administrator. You might have noticed RedMine lives in
/usr/share/redmine - that means it is meant to be managed by Debian
Developers. If you need to install your own software, you should
strive for it to be at ease in /usr/local.

Bug#586648: Needs to be fixed

2010-06-22 Thread John Talbut
What is Debian's (ALSA-maintainer's) policy on this? Is it satisfactory
to be supplying software that even an experienced user finds too
complicated to set up?

I spent a fair amount of time trying to work out how to get ALSA to work
like I wanted it to. As far as I can see it should be possible but I
would need to spend a good deal more time learning about alsa in order
to set it up. In the end I gave up and installed PulseAudio, which sort
of works.

Is this the policy, to use PulseAudio for multiple devices? This seems
to involve a whole lot of extra packages that should not be necessary.

I guess this is at least as much an upstream issue, but I do not know
how much is about how the Debian packages are installed.

John

No, the time has not yet come, we're at the end of the squeeze cycle,
we're not supposed to make such important changes. We should do it
at the start of squeeze+1.

And I expect "dh" to make use of dpkg-buildflags to somehow export
the variables to the build system, I don't know how it will
do it, but if it exports them to the environment then by not dropping the
variables right now we're avoiding the second step for those packages:
- variable set by /usr/bin/dpkg-buildpackage
- variable not set
- variable set by /usr/bin/dh

Cheers,

Bug#586874: ITP: openscenegraph-genwrapper -- OpenSceneGraph introspection wrapper generator

2010-06-22 Thread Alexandre Quessy
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Alexandre Quessy

Maco Jez's genwrapper is a utility program that reads C++ header files
and then automatically generates osgWrapper code from to use alongside
osgIntrospection.

GenWrapper was created as an 'ad-hoc' tool to support the development of
osgIntrospection and it was never intended to be used with anything
other than OSG source files, nor it was designed to meet requirements
other than the author's ones. GenWrapper was tested on the OSG source
tree ONLY and it's not known to work with anything else. If you want to
use GenWrapper on your own application's source tree, try to follow OSG
coding conventions and directory layout in order to minimize the risk of
failure. GENWRAPPER MAY OVERWRITE AND DESTROY YOUR FILES, USE AT YOUR
OWN RISK. ALWAYS MAKE BACKUPS!!!

Wrappers are generated from a two-phases process. The first phase
requires an XML description of source files to be created with Doxygen
(GenWrapper can build a Doxyfile for you). In the second phase
GenWrapper takes the XML input and generates C++ introspection wrappers
and optionally GNU makefiles and VS6 project files.

This code is released in the public domain.

You can download it from http://github.com/mikewoz/genwrapper

Bug#586873: ITP: spinframework -- spatial interaction framework

2010-06-22 Thread Alexandre Quessy
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Alexandre Quessy

The SPIN Framework allows for 'Spatial Interaction' in a networked
system of virtual environments. Tools are provided for high-level
layout of 3D content, visualization, and distribution of state over
networks. Possible application areas include:
  * Immersive Environments / Virtual Reality
  * Collaborative 3D authoring and editing
  * Telepresence
  * Visualization
  * Distributed Performance Art
  * Online Game / Metaverse Engines

One of the key features of the system is that spatial layout and
editing is done in real time rather than in an offline process.
This allows for rapid prototyping of virtual environments and
interaction. Network communication is achieved through
OpenSoundControl (OSC), allowing the use several existing systems
for control flow, including Pure Data, Max/MSP, Processing, etc.
The framework provides generic mechanisms for spatial manipulation,
based on geometric events (movement, intersection, incidence, etc.),
so a number of interaction paradigms can be explored.

Upstream authors:
   Mike Wozniewski (http://www.mikewoz.com)
   Zack Settel (http://www.sheefa.net/zack)

License: GPL version 3 or later
Current version is 0.3.1. Next stable release is 0.4.

The package provides two executables and some shared libraries.
I am considering splitting it up into the following packages:
  * libspinframework
  * libspinframework-dev
  * spinframework-tools
  * spinframework (as a metapackage)

Bug#586872: ITP: python-lunch -- Distributed process launching library

2010-06-22 Thread Alexandre Quessy
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

Description: Distributed process launching library for Python

With Lunch, one can launch software processes on several different
computers and make sure they keep running. This software was created to
suit the needs of new media artists for live performances and
interactive installations. Lunch is very useful software for artists
and people creating installation that need to run day and night.
It's very easy to launch software processes on many hosts via SSH
with this tool.

This package contains the lunch library for Python. There is already the
lunch package, which provides two executables. This package provides a
Python library to allow a developer to launch processes like the Lunch
application.

Lunch is written in Python with Twisted and GTK+.
See http://svn.sat.qc.ca/trac/lunch for more information.

The latest tarball can be downloaded from this address:
http://alexandre.quessy.net/static/tarballs/

The license is GPL version 2 or above. Same for the packaging itself.
I am the upstream author.

I took a look at this, and smart uses /usr/bin/env python - i.e. it appears that
it's CDBS that's creating those shebang lines based on the list of supported
python versions. I'm not familiar with CDBS, so the rest of this is pretty much
guessing.

smartpm-core contains usr/bin/smart, but that's just a symlink back to to the
the script in usr/share/smart/smart, which does contain the shebang line. It's
kind of odd, given that python-smartpm includes both directories
./usr/lib/pyshared/python2.[56]/smart/.

It appears that it just happens to be python2.6 because of the mv command in the
smartpm-movefiles: target in debian/rules - this would need to be a loop that
iterates over the currently supported set of python versions and then fix up the
symlink in the postinst?

The quickest fix I'm can see is to simply set XS-Python-Version to 2.6 - this
builds only the 2.6 modules - but perhaps someone with more Python/CDBS could
comment.

Thank you,
tony

Hello,

partman-basicfilesystems needs a few special cases to work properly
on Hurd, namely:
  - no kernel modules are needed for ext2 and vfat;
  - only 4k blocks, 128 bytes inodes are supported by ext2fs;
  - the "errors=remount-ro" option is not supported.

Bug#586870: partman-base: use a system-specific default filesystem

2010-06-22 Thread Jeremie Koenig
Package: partman-base
Version: 141
Severity: normal
Usertags: gsoc2010
Tags: patch

Hello,

Currently the default filesystem is ext3 on all systems. However, Hurd
only supports ext2 and kFreeBSD requires ufs as its root filesystem.
The attached patch sets a system-specific default, provided none has
been preseeded.

An alternative approach would be to load a system-specific "pre-preseed"
file at the beginning of the installation, though I'm not sure what
other configuration items would need system-specific defaults.

My suggestion would be to use my patch as a first step and review the
situation when/if more system-specific defaults prove to be necessary.

Any thoughts? (or irrepressible urges to commit my patch? :-)

Thanks,

http://svn.debian.org/viewsvn/pkg-erlang?view=rev&revision=1255

I would be very grateful if Kartik and Sam could review the change
and/or test it out before we ask Sergei to upload. I've adapted the
change from what was shipped in Ubuntu and also test built it in a sid
pbuilder, so I'm optimistic is is a reasonably clean split.

Related to this, I uploaded Chad's updated desktopcouch package into
Ubuntu today that kills the circular dependencies, so I think once
this couchdb split is uploaded to debian we will have cleared the way
for using desktopcouch in debian at long last:

Bug#547272: Clarification of the Format field in control files

I wonder if it is a good thing to have the format version number given two
times. How about removing one instance, or adding SGML comments warning that
modification has to be done in two places? Or using a SGML entity?

> In the other paragraph, you say "In .changes files", maybe you should also say
> "In .dsc files" here (or the other way round)?

I also think that it makes the Policy clearer if it uses consistently one
terminology. We have the choice between the short names that is used in most
discussions on the Debian mailing lists (.changes, .dsc, debian/control), and
the longer names that are not much used outside the Policy (Source package
control, Binary package control, Debian source control, and Debian changes
files).

One problem of the short/causal names it that debian/control and DEBIAN/control
are spoken the same (although it would be interesting to distinguish them by
shouting Debian in the second case). Not to mention that “Debian control file”
is (although not in practice) a vague term, since the Policy also sometimes
refer to files like postinst as “control files”.

So despite this does not reflect the practice in electronic communications, I
would recommend to use the more formal long names to refer to the control data
files of source and binary packages.

> Seconded, with and without a change for my comment above.

Same for me. I gave my opinion, but trust your final decision.

Ah, and lastly, here are two minor comments:

>

>

Is there a reason for using a markup for the .changes file, but a
markup for debian/control, debian/changelog, and debian/rules? Of course, I
understand that being consistent across the whole document is beyond the scope
of this bug.

More cosmetically, if the Debian changes file are always made of one paragraph
only, perhaps we can avoid the repetition of ‘contain’ (‘They contain one
paragraph which contains’) with the following sentence in replacement:

“They consist in a single paragraph which which contains…”

Have a nice day,

Bug#582200: gitolite's debconf ends silently if adminkey file cannot be accessed

Hi!

* Gerfried Fuchs  [2010-05-19 08:58:03 CEST]:

* Cesar A. Gasparri  [2010-05-19 05:33:19 CEST]:

After installation, i ran dpkg-reconfigure gitolite, set the
"adminkey" directly to a pubkey in my ~/.ssh/ with full path, and
debconf ended silently (without initializing my gitolite-admin repo).
It seems that the process trying to initialize it is owned by
"gituser" and couldn't access my 600'ed pubkey.

The initialize is run with the git user indeed - but the key should had
got copied away earlier with proper permissions for that user. Actually
a reconfigure to the same user isn't able to add another admin key -
this is planned. If you would have reconfigured to a different user and
a different directory that should have worked.

I promised too much. Reconfiguring to the same user and directory won't
add another admin key. This would mean that it would tweak the
gitolite.conf in a special way and commit that to the admin repository.
Please use the inital admin key to add additional admin keys/users,
that's the way it's mean to be.

  So long,
Rhonda

I think you misunderstood my bug report, i wasn't trying to add another
admin key nor modify an existent one, my gitolite's user homedir
(/var/lib/gitolite) was *completely empty* (because the default
debconf's "high" priority level skipped all the questions when I
installed it), and i wanted to *initialize it* running dpkg-reconfigure
(to set my first admin key), which failed silently without setting my
gitolite-admin repo or copying my first admin key.

Weird, but if I provide exactly the same configuration to debconf at
installation (lowering debconf's default priority level), it installs
smoothly, I just tested it in a VM. Basically it isn't possible to
dpkg-reconfigure after installation even though gitolite's user homedir
is empty.

Hope this help, i just wanted to make it clear for future reference.
Thanks for your time.
Cesar

This package was originally uploaded as extra because its binaries depended on
python-spf, which was extra. This is no longer the case, so it should be

It should be moved from mail to python because this source package now only
contains python bindings for libmilter and is only of interest to Python
developers. Originally it also contains milter applications that were

Bug#586868: ftp.debian.org: pyspf:python/optional, python-spf:python/optional, spf-tools-python:mail/optional

2010-06-22 Thread Scott Kitterman
Package: ftp.debian.org
Severity: normal

pyspf (and it's binaries) should never have been extra (original maintainer
made this choice) and was prevented until recently by python-yaml being extra.
Now that it can be made optional, this is more appropriate.

spf-tools-python provides tools that may be useful to mail admins and so is
better suited to section mail than python (it provides only command line
scripts and no Python modules or extensions).

Bug#586866: fetchmail: fix for python2.6 compatibility (site-packages vs. dist-packages)

2010-06-22 Thread Steve Langasek
Package: fetchmail
Version: 6.3.16-1
Severity: serious
Tags: patch
User: ubuntu-de...@lists.ubuntu.com
Usertags: origin-ubuntu maverick ubuntu-patch

Hi guys,

Ok, one more patch. :)

Building fetchmail from source with debuild -b (i.e., building the arch: all
packages) fails in unstable now that python points to python2.6 by default,
because python2.6 uses a different path for modules than python2.5 did
(dist-packages vs. site-packages):

 gzip -9

/home/devel/canonical/maverick/fetchmail-6.3.17/debian/tmp/usr/share/man/man1/fetchmail.1
 mkdir -p debian/fetchmailconf/usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/
 mv debian/tmp/usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/fetchmailconf.py \

The attached patch corrects for this while simplifying debian/rules at the
same time.

Bug#586864: fetchmail: please suggest default-mta, not exim4

2010-06-22 Thread Steve Langasek
Package: fetchmail
Version: 6.3.16-1
Severity: minor
Tags: patch
User: ubuntu-de...@lists.ubuntu.com
Usertags: origin-ubuntu maverick ubuntu-patch

Hi guys,

The attached patch from Ubuntu updates fetchmail to suggest default-mta as
the preferred MTA, instead of exim4. 'default-mta' is the virtual package
provided by exim4-daemon-light in Debian and postfix in Ubuntu, and may be
pointed to other implementations in future releases or on other derivatives.

This virtual package is not currently documented in policy, but has been
discussed on debian-devel over the past year and there is a pretty clear
consensus that this should be done. This is obviously a low-priority issue
for fetchmail since fetchmail only declares a Suggests, which will never be
installed by default, but it would be nice if fetchmail set a good example
here.

It would also be appreciated if you could apply the patch from bug #498427
if and when you apply this one, as that would eliminate Ubuntu's delta on
the fetchmail package entirely and let the two distros be in sync again.

Cheers,

As a quick note, I believe this is related to a behavior I've
experienced where opening the playlist window for the first time will
cause the ordering to reverse itself. I was never able to track this
down, but it doesn't happen unless the playlist window becomes open.

Thanks for the triage. Here’s a pointer for the interested:

  http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.comp.shells.dash/291/focus=295

> Why would anyone want to open script in read-write mode?

Based on open(2), I am guessing it is a hack to force EISDIR when
fname refers to a directory. That is, I am guessing the intended
effect is something like this:

 static int
 isdir_hack(int fd)
 {
struct stat64 st;

if (fstat64(fd, &st) < 0)
return -1;
if (S_ISDIR(st.st_mode)) {
errno = EISDIR;
return -1;
}
return 0;
 }

 ...

if ((fd = open(fname, O_RDONLY)) < 0 || isdir_hack(fd) < 0) {

Please take that with a grain of salt, since I am not familiar with
this code.

Cheers,
Jonathan

Bug#492583: xen-tools: hostname -f no longer returns the full hostname

2010-06-22 Thread Martin Goldman
Package: xen-tools
Version: 4.2~beta1-1
Followup-For: Bug #492583

It appears that, possibly as a result of this change, "hostname -f" no longer
returns the machine's FQDN; instead, it just returns the machine's short name
(the one that's displayed if you simply type "hostname"). This is a problem for
applications that need your FQDN.

One way of fixing this is by writing something like this to /etc/hosts:

a.b.c.d myhost.mydomain.com myhost

instead of writing 2 separate lines for myhost.mydomain.com and myhost as
xen-tools is currently doing.

Looks like eproject-extras.el would be very useful for users (as opposed
to elisp programmers). Would you mind adding autoload cookies to its
interactive commands?

We also needs autoload cookies for eproject.el entry points (including
`eproject-maybe-turn-on' and `dot-eproject-mode', as well as the
`add-hook' and `add-to-list':

 ;;;###autoload
 (add-hook 'find-file-hook #'eproject-maybe-turn-on)
 ;;;###autoload
 (add-hook 'dired-mode-hook #'eproject-maybe-turn-on)
 ;;;###autoload
 (add-to-list 'auto-mode-alist '("\\.eproject$" . dot-eproject-mode))

I could add eproject and eproject-extras within the next few days (I
was about to do it this evening when i noticed the missing cookies; I
could add a quilt patch, but I'd rather not if I can avoid it).

Thanks,
Peter

Nope, arch wildcards are just superior.

Mostly, type-handling should eventually disappear, as Aurelien has said
it's just a hack. But, there's one case where it might unfortunately
still be needed, which is an arch:all package conditionally depending
on arch:foo packages only on the foo architecture.

Bug#586859: cdbs: upward compatibility

2010-06-22 Thread Kevin Ryde
Package: cdbs
Version: 0.4.85
Severity: wishlist

I hoped perlmodule.mk and other fragments wouldn't print messages saying
they shouldn't be used. One of the most attractive things about cdbs is
that straightforward uses have been forward and backward compatible for
a very long time -- unlike other packaging tools which seem to run a
treadmill forcing developers to make one change after another to stuff
that was working fine. I thought in fact also the reason for the /1/ in
the cdbs names was so existing ways could be left alone should there be
new things.

Sorry for taking 3 years to reply...

The discussion at http://emacsen.org/2005/09/26-javascript mentions the
current "best" as js2.el. I was about to add it to emacs-goodies-el but
noticed that it is packaged in testing and sid as "js2-mode".

js2-mode is not heavily maintained and so would be a good candidate for
inclusion into emacs-goodies-el rather than taking up a package for a
single file. But I won't do the equivalent of highjacking it.

As for the others, they are now here:

 http://www.brgeight.se/emacs_modes.php

css-mode.el - Syntactic highlighting, automatic indentation and filling of
comments for cascading style sheets

->  Emacs23 already has a css-mode.el.

oberon.el - Syntactic highlighting, automatic indentation and filling of
comments for Oberon source code

-> I don't know what oberon is...

paren-glint.el - Provides highlighting of matching parentheses with a
configurable timeout after which the highlighting will go away.

-> paren-glint.el is interesting and might be worth packaging. It
   times-out the highlighted matched parenthesis.

Comments?

Bug#365530: progress

2010-06-22 Thread Garrett McLean
Hi,

I'm curious about mit-scheme on amd64's progress as well.

I've been able to install mit-scheme on amd64 by dowloading the i386 package
and installing with dpkg --force-architecture -i, though this is not ideal.

Knowing nothing about package maintenance, and armed with the very basic
TLDP howto (
http://tldp.org/HOWTO/html_single/Debian-Binary-Package-Building-HOWTO/) and
not enough time, I managed to build mit-scheme on my amd64 system and make a
package that passes a lintian check. You can download it here
http://www.gmclean.org/mit-scheme_9.0.1-1_amd64.deb. Let me know if it
works, if I'm a complete putz, etc. Hope it helps some folks, works on my
amd64 machine.

Best wishes,

-Garrett

Bug#586858: network-manager: Should auto-detect EAP authentication type

2010-06-22 Thread Josh Triplett
Package: network-manager
Version: 0.8-1
Severity: wishlist

In talking with someone who uses wpa-supplicant directly to connect to a
WPA-EAP-protected network, they asked why NetworkManager needs to ask
for the EAP authentication type (TTLS, PEAP, etc), and why it needs to
ask for the inner authentication type. Apparently, wpa-supplicant can
autodetect all of those from an EAP configuration packet. It certainly
would make connecting to WPA networks easier if NetworkManager could
autodetect this as well (or let wpa-supplicant do so).

In the worse case this bug can introduce a data loose so I set the
severity to grave.

I newly reinstalled my system to 64 bit (amd64) and found that I cannot
view the database anymore. Also a recreation from the gw file do not
help. If I use a command line tool like consang or gwu I get "Uncaught

Before I switched to amd64 everything was fine so I think that is a

Bug#586855: pm-utils: pm-hibernate fails without any hint of why

2010-06-22 Thread Stefan Monnier
Package: pm-utils
Version: 1.3.0-2
Severity: normal

On my ThinkPad T60, occasionally the system gets into a state where pm-
hibernate fails. s2disk still succeeds and I haven't tracked down the cause of
the failure. One of the reason is that running "pm-hibernate" as root from the
command-line just returns sliently (with error code 1), whereas I would expect
it to return some output on stderr giving a hint as to where the problem comes
from.

After some digging I noticed that /var/log/pm-suspend might contain relevant
debug info (tho it didn't help me, yet), but that's no substitute for putting
some diagnostics right into stderr.

I just applied a patch from Florian that should have worked all of this
out. Can you look at the linux-next tree tomorrow and verify that it is
all ok now?

If not, can you resend whichever ids from these two patches that you
feel are still needed to be changed?

Comments/Problems:

The installer requires the 'noapic' option, otherwise it freezes at the
'Select a language' step. Booting also requires 'noapic'.
This is not Debian specific, the same happens with recent versions of
Fedora and Ubuntu.
I already contacted the Fujitsu support, because I suspect that the
problem is in the BIOS, but they refused to give support for operating
systems other than the preinstalled one.
Nevertheless, with the 'noapic' option, everything seems to work fine,
but I'm of course not sure if I would have even better performance with
the APIC.

In my original Squeeze installation three months ago I had to install
the proprietary NVIDIA graphics driver if I wanted to have a resolution
larger than 800x600. This should probably now be solved by the recent nv
or nouveau packages supporting the Geforce GT220 card.

In Lenny I had to modify /etc/X11/xorg.conf to get a decent resolution:

Sure, I don't have a great deal of time right now. I do have a package I put
together, although it's incredibly basic and nowhere near complete. I also
have libdlna0 packaged as a dependency (since ushare needs it). If you'd
like the source, please let me know and I'll ensure it's available
somewhere.

Kind regards,
rob.

Bug#577111: rancid: "terminal length 0\r" breaks for some Procurve switches

2010-06-22 Thread James Zuelow
Package: rancid
Version: 2.3.3-1
Severity: normal

After the Squeeze package update on the 19th, I had e-mails waiting for
me on Monday:

The following routers have not been successfully contacted for
more than 24 hours.
-rw-r- 1 root root 1411 Jun 20 20:12 192.168.54.233

-rw-r- 1 root root 1857 Jun 21 02:13 192.168.54.251

Double-checking, sure enough they were all procurves.

Running hrancid 192.168.54.233 results in:

mis-jz-lnx:/var/lib/rancid/bin# ./hrancid 192.168.54.233
192.168.54.233: missed cmd(s): write term

Commenting out the extraneous "set terminal length 0\r" in hlogin fixes
it.

Again, I cannot find a single procurve switch were "set terminal length
0" is a valid command. The allowed range is 2 - 1000.

Thanks!

Looking again at the list of symbols which this needs, it requires
metis_nodend_, ParMETIS_V3_NodeND and metis_nodewnd_ for which there are
no templates in the Scotch headers. So I'm afraid this won't be doable,
without either extending scotch, or modifying the Elmer source to not
require these.

Note that I have modified the Elmer source before to work around Scotch-
Metis incompatibility, see debian/patches/no-metis-partmesh.patch . But
it's pretty involved, and I don't have the motivation right now. Do you
have some time to put into it?

Bug#586836: iceweasel: unknown server certificates should - if accepted - not be made permanent per default

2010-06-22 Thread Christoph Anton Mitterer
Package: iceweasel
Version: 3.5.9-3
Severity: wishlist

Hi.

May I, for security reasons, suggest that if a user gets the well known dialog
when accessing an
https-site, for which the certificate is not yet trusted somehow, the
"Permanently store this
exception" check box should be unchecked per default.

One often access SSL sites, which cannot be "trusted" (at least from the
Firefox point of view)
but this is often no problem, as one does not intend to enter or rely on any
secured information
anyway.

However, per default the checkbox "Permanently store this exception" in the
exception-dialog is
enabled, which I guess, is bad for security reasons (as it would be permanent).

Thanks,
Chris.

Bug#586834:

2010-06-22 Thread Omar Campagne
Excuse my last empty report, something about reportbug-gtk not spawing
mutt..

If I add indicator-applet, I only see "No indicators". I've tried
restarting the system and removing the notification area with no
success, as well as trying the new awn indicator-applet area.

indicator-applet-complete fails to add itself with no messages.(
not filing a bug in case that applet is affected by this one).

I cannot debug this package with gdb because there are no "debugging
symbols".

I'm planning on making a release next weekend for Policy 3.9.0. Sorry
that it's been so long; a lot of things have been competing for my
attention lately.

I guess both will be useful. The upstream bugreport (UTL above) has no
patch in the comments and there is no sigh that anyone tested your

A similar check exists in src/corelib/plugin/qlibrary.cpp:isPlugin() [1] as
well but it's a bit less paranoid and will refuse to load a plugin if it
was built with later major Qt release (4.x). This still does not work with
symbol files well. So either we need to bump symbol versions to the
current 4.x series each new major release or just remove that check.

Yes, this version is better, update-grub works now:

# update-grub
Generating grub.cfg ...
Found background image: moreblue-orbit-grub.png
Found linux image: /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.32-5-686
Found initrd image: /boot/initrd.img-2.6.32-5-686
Found linux image: /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.32-3-686
Found initrd image: /boot/initrd.img-2.6.32-3-686
done

But the old setup was still better. On the new one:

* it still complains not to find /dev/hda
* the background-picture is still not displayed
* the resolution of the screen is still bad until the kernel is setting
  the font later during booting

# cat /proc/cmdline
BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-2.6.32-5-686 root=/dev/mapper/Taschenrechner-root
ro vga=0x305

Where does this hda thing come from?

Bug#586340: libelmersolver-5.5.0: should depend on mumps

2010-06-22 Thread Adam C Powell IV
Hi and thank you for the report.

Looking at the forum [1], it seems that one needs to build Elmer with
METIS in order to have it link with MUMPS. I link it with Scotch, but
even so Elmer never even tests MUMPS linkage.

[1] http://www.elmerfem.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=234

Looking at fem/configure, there's no reference to mumps there either.

It looks like this is an "undocumented" feature, where one needs to
compile with -DHAVE_MUMPS and see if everything works. Not a trivial
thing, but I'm willing to give it a try.

I'll let you know when there's something in alioth to test.

Bug#577217: Speech dispatcher is still started by default => raison for clsoing is wrong

2010-06-22 Thread Milan Zamazal
When I install speech-dispatcher >= 0.7 for the first time, it is not
started by default. If it is not installed for the first time, it is
naturally still started by default as before (assuming that if it was
running before, it should remain running and not suddenly disappear).

Do you observe different behavior? Or do you think it should behave
otherwise?

Well I know, but it should not break anything.

On few machines I'm using nscd without bigger problem. (well screensavers
being only remaining problem, but i think it is because of other problem).

I will try without nscd.

The error occurs when checking a .changes file referencing one or more
files which don't exist, so the easiest solution is not to do that. :-)

Alternatively, add "use Lintian::Output;"
to /usr/share/lintian/lib/Lintian/Schedule.pm

It's been longer than I remembered since I fixed this in lintian's git
repository, so we should probably make a new release soon as well.

Adam

Bug#586829: [komparator] new native version for KDE4

2010-06-22 Thread Valerio Passini
Package: komparator
Version: 0.9-1
Severity: wishlist

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---
Hello,
There is a porting to KDE4 of the useful program Komparator.
http://kde-apps.org/content/show.php?action=content&content=116039
The version now in Sid seems unmaintained and depends on KDE 3.5.
The porting is not yet complete, but it seems to have many basic
features (I'm testing it through the Ubuntu 10.04 amd64 package), so
that IMHO it's worth to switch from the KDE3.5 to the KDE4 version.
Thank you

Valerio

This is probably a bug in whatever script is calling Sys::Syslog. That
error message means that something called:

syslog($priority, "%s", $foo);

or the like, and $foo was undef.
