The smartmontools work very well with the 3ware adapter, it just looks like that on scsi ioctl has changed in the upgrade, and it also looks like that the call is not cirtical because the smartmontools pretend to work normal. -- Dipl.-Inf. Thanks, this might be caused by the new scsi ioctl whitelist that was added around 2.6.8. Which kernel were you upgrading from. I think maybe it's just that the 3ware card (which appears as a scsi device) doesn't support the right scsi opcode for querying that info. If I stop the daemon provided by that package the errors stop. I only installed smartmontools recently and noticed this problem right away. Has it ever worked for you? If it has and this is a regression then this is a bug, otherwise I think it's something that 3ware will need to fix in their driver or hardware or both. -- Matt Taggart [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#296544: kernel-image-2.6.8-2-686: i get many "scsi: unknown opcode 0x80" messages from the kernel
Package: kernel-image-2.6.8-2-686 Version: 2.6.8-13 Severity: normal Hi, since the last upgrade i get many "scsi: unknown opcode 0x80" from the kernel. My only SCSI device is a 3ware 7006 IDE Raid Adapter. I use the smartmontools to monitor the 2 ide disks. The System seems to act normal (I rebooted the machine to get sure its no a-reboot-gets-it-away error). First I tried to search in google for a clue about this message, but i didn't find _the_ answer. here some information about the machine: -- cat /proc/cpuinfo processor : 0 vendor_id : GenuineIntel cpu family : 6 model : 8 model name : Pentium III (Coppermine) stepping: 6 cpu MHz : 730.934 cache size : 256 KB fdiv_bug: no hlt_bug : no f00f_bug: no coma_bug: no fpu : yes fpu_exception : yes cpuid level : 2 wp : yes flags : fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 mmx fxsr sse bogomips: 1441.79 -- cat /proc/scsi/scsi Attached devices: Host: scsi0 Channel: 00 Id: 00 Lun: 00 Vendor: 3wareModel: Logical Disk 0 Rev: 1.2 Type: Direct-AccessANSI SCSI revision: -- lspci :00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corp. 82815 815 Chipset Host Bridge and Memory Controller Hub (rev 02) :00:01.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corp. 82815 815 Chipset AGP Bridge (rev 02) :00:1e.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corp. 82801AA PCI Bridge (rev 02) :00:1f.0 ISA bridge: Intel Corp. 82801AA ISA Bridge (LPC) (rev 02) :00:1f.1 IDE interface: Intel Corp. 82801AA IDE (rev 02) :00:1f.2 USB Controller: Intel Corp. 82801AA USB (rev 02) :00:1f.5 Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corp. 82801AA AC'97 Audio (rev 02) :01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV6 [Vanta/Vanta LT] (rev 15) :02:08.0 Ethernet controller: 3Com Corporation 3c905C-TX/TX-M [Tornado] (rev 78) :02:09.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd.
