Hi Pierre,

As a Debian user I think Debian has a policy of having open email lists
that do not require you to subscribe to any list and of not altering the
email address to hide it from spam makers. Its very open and public just
like the internet, that never forgets anything you send.  Some person in
Debian can delete your post but it will not stop the spam, since they
already have your email address. Be sure in the future to use an email
address that will enable you to filter it or use some method to check
your email for spam. That is all anyone can do these days :-)
Debian does not spam. In fact, they remove thousands of spam a day from
entering the many email lists that you and I recieve, thank goodness!

Hello,

I've posted messages in one of your Debian lists from from my business 
email address and I start to receive spam.
It is very sad since I had succeeded with preserving of any indexing by 
the spam robots :-(
The only site which proposes my address email is yours, so I am about 
sure that it comes from these messages:

The best thing that can be done to reconcile the conflicting concerns

other people how to spend their money, stop telling other people how to

criticizing each other for our emotions, stop reacting when other people
do.

Just stop.

Let everyone work on Debian in their own fashion, in their own way, and
take their contributions at face value and move on.  Some people will stop
working for whatever reason, including anger at what other people have
chosen to do with their money or how other people have chosen to accept
money.  Some people will increase their effort.  All of us are *very*
different, are coming from extremely different cultures and sets of
concerns, and have very different personal arrangements of work/life
balance, employment, funding, and work structure.  We need to give each
other space to be ourselves while working on Debian and not try to force
Debian Developers into any particular model.  There are too many of us for
that.

This doesn't solve all of the problems, and I'm not saying that the
concerns raised can be dismissed as simply as just letting them go, but it
would give us a cooling off period and some space to focus on the work
rather than on the politics, and I for one would really appreciate that
right now.

I like the swirl too, but you have to concede that having a disused
logo tattooed on you does give you more of an old-timer aura.

Hi Dirk,

Most Debian mailing lists are english-oriented, please respect this.  There 
are some german lists, such as debian-user-de.   Please note, too, that 
the -project list is not really the correct list to talk about such issues.  
debian-user would probabyl be better.

I don't think a general hardware compatibility list for Debian is available.  
(And owing to the extremely short product cycles I'm not sure it's even 
feasible)

Currently, the situation is:
 * on most modern hardware, Debian 3.1 (sarge) won't install with the 
default installer because of the IDE hardware.  SCSI might be fine.  
Graphics cards will also be a major pain.
 * on most modern hardware Debian 4.0 (etch) which is now in preparation 
(current expected release date is around the end of the year, personally I 
guess it will be something like end of January) will install and run just 
fine.  Accelerated graphics is still a problem without using proprietary 
drivers for Nvidia and ATI cards.

Again, what others have already said:  it is not the Debian swirl.  It is 
very likely that whoever created this swirl has not even heard about 
Debian.

The Debian swirl was created with a few - apparently very obvious - steps in 
a popular graphics package (which one?), starting with a default brush 
stroke.  So anybody owning this particular graphics package can easily 
create a similar logo.  Both brush strokes and swirls are not that 
uncommon...

This was discussed in the past already.

Time for a more unique logo?  OTOH I quite like the swirl.  And then there 
are the tattooed people who probably would like the logo to stay the same 
for another few years...
