Others have answered your question but I would like to point out that
Debian lenny is obsolete and no longer receives security updates. I
suggest that you should upgrade to Debian wheezy as soon as possible.

Note you can also search old packages at:
http://archive.debian.net/ then use the relevant links to source,
binaries etc.

This happens because you're subscribed. You can easily reverse this margin by
unsubscribing.

It seems there's no definitive way to unsubscribe from G's recruiters,
unfortunately, but yes, your hint may eventually work.

I think there's no way to change their recruiting process, no matter we
consider it good, bad or whatever. Poking people is not illegal and such
companies don't care about having annoying/unethical behavior if it gives them
a positive balance in the end.

I don't think they'll consider it at all.

Ironically enough, this thread has taken up more slots in my inbox
than emails by Google recruiters this year by a 900% margin.

Hint: write back and say something like "I am flattered, but
absolutely not on the market. Please don't contact me again for at
least 2 years."

That said if I was running a company that deployed a lot of Debian
derived Linux systems, I'd certainly expect my hiring managers to be
talking to Debian Developers, and I don't think we should fault them
for it.

Perhaps when declining their overtures, it might help to point them at
http://lists.debian.org/debian-jobs/ to get them on the right track?

So they basically take our DD selection process as a filter to weed
out potential candidates.

How flattering.

Greetings

you state that you are not willing to move to a Googlecity

I guess you are referring to this
  https://lists.debian.org/debian-vote/2009/11/msg0.html
and the related threads. Thanks for the reference, I had forgotten
that. I will re-read that thread and consider what you and others
have written.

Thanks for that.

I'm sorry to have apparently offended you. I didn't intend to imply
that you had suggested debian-legal. It seemed to me that
debian-legal was an obvious possible place for this conversation and I
was explaining why I chose not to use it.

Thanks again for your considered responses.

This kind of opposition to the AGPL is certainly not irrelevant to me.
Even though I'm still personally a fan of the AGPL, having seen again
these arguments (and seen that it's still considered a problem by
reasonable people) I'm probably not going to recommend it to the
project I mentioned in my head article.

Ian.

You can put the following in your sources.list to be able to "apt-get
source " on a Lenny system:

deb-src http://archive.debian.org/debian lenny main

Cheers,
