[debian-user] fail to print postscript
Hi all, I created a simple test postscript file (enscript -p - /etc/hosts >/tmp/a.ps) and could not print it to a networked hplaserjet5m. I get garbage from the printer. When I print the same ps file from a DEC box to the same printer, no problems. Both the debian system and DEC box are using the same /etc/printcap. I just installed potato with kernel 2.2.14 from disk images. Any ideas? George
blackbox and blackbox-menu
A few months ago (in the middle of test week, so I didn't get the chance to ask then), I did an `apt-get dist-upgrade`, which installed version 0.51.3-1 of blackbox on my potato system. A couple of days later, when I started X (don't really use it that often), the root menu was shaved down from the normal debian menu, to simply: xterm Restart Exit At the time, I figured it was simply a bug, and dist-upgraded again, and got 0.51.3-2. I am now at 0.51.3-3, and it still has not changed back, what's causing this? My /etc/X11/blackbox/blackbox-menu has NOT changed, it still contains entries for all of the X-related packages I've installed, but I still only get those 3 entries in my root menu. Is this a bug, or has the location of the menu file changed, or what? Andres Salomon
Re: suggest a backup media
How about a scsi Jaz Drive i find them to be the best backup media ... because ... it is not as sensitive as burning CDRs and to me not as expensive too and pretty portable and easy data retrieval too. kim0 On Sat, 27 Jun 1998, the lone gunman wrote: > I'm unsure of what backup media I should go with for my Linux system. > I have a 4 gig harddrive. > > I'm thinking about CD-R or Travan-4 tape backup. Anybody ever set up /etc/printcap with an HP LaserJet II on a network?
Hello Everybody (Hi Dr. Nick :) Has anybody here setup an HP LaserJet II on a network? I've been able to wrangle my /etc/printcap to dump out a banner sheet but that's it. I don't get any output. I've not been able to find anything (in English anyhow) that explains how to setup an HP LaserJet II connected directly to the network. If anybody has done this before, would you be kind enough to send me a copy of the /etc/printcap? rex installation report
'lo I installed Debian rex (frozen) this week-end -- I had some problems : * perl-suid and perl-base written a lot of messages like : "try overwrite /usr/lib/perl5/" one is "try overwrite /usr/lib/perl5/i386-linux/5.00307/CORE/liberl.a" * kernel-sources-2.0.23_1.deb tar file or header file corrupted the same problem occures with files from another 2 mirrors * I added /usr/X11R6/lib in /etc/ld.so.conf to run xterm, fvwm I tried to upgrade Debian buzz just before, and I noticed: - * gzip and ppp require the new libc5 (5.4... i thing) * kernel-sources-2.0.23_1.deb tar file or header file corrupted Question: --- I have 2 NE2000 card. How can I configure conf.modules to use them ? Of course, making a symlink is the easiest way to solve this problem, but wouldn't it be better if the installation scripts, that depend on /bin/perl, were changed to reference /usr/bin/perl? IMHO, we would someone need to have perl in /bin, if it is symlinked to /usr/bin/perl and therefore *ONLY* available, if /usr is mounted? And /bin should only contain "Essential user command binaries". Thanks Chris
