Hi,

My best wishes to all the people of DeVUAn, good luck in their job, good
election in their default DE . I don't like Gnome neither Systemd. But I
don't want to talk about Gnome or Systemd, this is not the point of this
thread (I think that this is not the point of the mailing list, but it
is only my personal opinion). I think that I prefer remain with Debian,
(but maybe with Xfce 4.12 soon?). That's all :)

And people who uses Debian knows that some times we must wait to have
some good software...

Re: Disable server so it does not start on reboot (even after upgrade)?

2015-01-10 Thread Xavi
First I do:

sudo update-rc.d -f apache2 remove

and then, to assert the rc.d links are not recreated,
I recreate them stopped in all runlevels:

sudo update-rc.d apache2 stop 80 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 .

Re: Why Debian

2013-11-09 Thread xavi
I use Debian because Debian is like an old good car. Easy to open and
see how it's mounted. Without too much customization. Without too much
gurus and astronauts. And with a lot of support. I like it very much.
Really.

But if you prefer more customization and a distro very user friendly
(and the astronaut), maybe you could use Xubuntu or maybe Linux Mint.

Sorry for my english ;)

I like both Ubuntu and Debian - but Debian is closest to my heart.

Why to use a Debian based OS if you can use Debian?

I have the same problem. And I resolved it installing wicd. Never trust
in network manager :)

Yes, it will.

But instead, after turning it off, the item has vanished from the
menu,

and I can find no way to get it back.

What item from which menu? I'm assuming you mean the "Enable Wi-Fi"
item

in the nm-applet right-click menu.

[snip]

It looks as if somewhere Linux has got the idea that wifi is supposed
to
be off, and upon boot it tells the BIOS to disable the WLAN device.
And
then the network manager thinks I don't have a wifi device and
refuses to

give me any options to turn it on again.

As far as I recall Network Manager is using rfkill to disable the
WiFi[1]. See if the command 'rfkill' helps.

[1] this generally is not such a bad idea, because it will save power.

Kind regards,
Andrei
