I also get this in gutsy. But this is after the system tells me I have
no audio device to use. I click ok... then it hang with the button down
for a while and then give me apport to report the bug.

[Bug 24746] Re: gThumb half-works with my digital camera

2008-01-11 Thread Vtrain
I have the same problem with a Cannon A60. When I connect the camera it
starts the picture importer but after it says:

An error occurred in the io-library ('Bad parameters'): Could not find
USB device (vendor 0x4a9, product 0x3074). Make sure this device is
connected to the computer.

My details

@golfinho:~$ cat /etc/*release*
DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu
DISTRIB_RELEASE=7.10
DISTRIB_CODENAME=gutsy
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu 7.10"

@golfinho:~$ dpkg -l|grep "\(gphoto\|gthumb\)"

gphoto2 digital camera library
ii libgphoto2-port0 2.4.0-2ubuntu2

But then I found out that lsusb was not showing my camera but sudo lsusb
was:

@golfinho:~$ lsusb
Bus 005 Device 001: ID :
Bus 004 Device 001: ID :
Bus 003 Device 001: ID :

so I tried
sudo gnome-volume-manager-gthumb

and it worked. What shall I do to have it working as the normal users?
I had a scanner that I needed to chmod +w the /proc/bus/usb// but here
I do not see any files at

@golfinho:~$ ls -lart /proc/bus/usb/
[empty]

regards.

Re: [Bug 178994] Re: [Hardy Alpha 2] RB "Move to Trash" only removes from list if file on mounted (ext3) partition

2008-01-11 Thread Aaron Whitehouse
This is my testing partition, so /, /home etc. is all on the one
partition that I referred to as my "main" Hardy partition.

I also have a different Ubuntu install on the same machine. This error
occurs if I use the rhythmbox in the Hardy install to "move to trash"
a file that is on the ext3 partition of my stable (Gutsy) Ubuntu Home
partition.

Partition sda10 has Hardy's /, /home etc. and rhythmbox. I get this
error if I delete a file that is on sda8 (the Home partition of my
Gutsy install).

[Bug 134486] [NEW] Gnome screen unlock should also show already opened sessions

2008-01-11 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: xorg

There is one mayor inconsistency with the fast-user-switching UI.

The unlock screen dialog now already shows a "switch user" button. What
it does not yet show, but needs to show to avoid confusion is a list of
already running user sessions, which are available to switch to.

Without that, a user might try to login twice. This might happen if user
A locks his screen and then leaves the machine. User B logs in and
leaves as well. User A returns and thinks he has been logged out/killed
via Ctrl+Alt+Backspace and tries to login again. Moreover the way it is
now, he would have to wild guess which VT his session is on and he would
have to know about the appropriate keyboard shortcut, which is very
unlikely with newbies.

By the way, I very much like the fact, that in Ubuntu it is actually
taken serious if you say you can't expect a newbie to know - unlike in
Debian. I know, and most people that would report a bug or wish here,
but our mothers don't.

[Bug 150471] Re: [Gutsy] high processor activity after logging out and then logging in again

2008-01-11 Thread manzano
I had this problem for 2-3 days, everytime I started Nautilus (within same
session, login-logout, etc).
Based on my logs (different error messages), I found other bugs related to
nautilus and tried many different things.
It was fixed when I changed in a Nautilus window (after waiting 5-10 minutes
for the hang to stop):
Edit>Preferences>Views>List View Default>Default zoom level>75%
(or gconf-editor
apps>nautilus>list_view>default_zoom_level>small if Nautilus cannot never
starts)
and removed 8000+ thumbnails created in .thumbnails subfolders (but I didn't
removed the folders) to get back to my prefered list view at 25% (smallest).

I understand that killing Nautilus is a quick fix and it worked for me too (at
least when I didn't need Nautilus), but I wanted to go further to find why this
bug. I found that a faulty thumbnail can lead to a non working Nautilus. I
couln't check each of 8000 created thumbnails and since Nautilus re-builds
thumbnails when it needs it ...
In addition if you kill Nautilus at gdm session's end, you shouldn't be able to
save your session state for it. You might loose this function.

[Bug 150471] Re: [Gutsy] high processor activity after logging out and then logging in again

2008-01-11 Thread Alen
It's not so complicated for me: all I have to do is open nautilus on the
secondary screen (LCD TV) and close it - it remains among the other processes
with 100% CPU usage. Usually there are two users logged on on the machine and
no one can logout without nautilus to go wild :-)
Removed tracker a long time ago since it would go crazy when nautilus was
killed...
Should I remove user switcher? I t tends to crash xserver from time to time...

I agree, for me it has always said "Desktop effects could not be
enabled" (hardy alpha 3) but no info on what went wrong. and if there is
a way to solve this. For example in my case GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap
is not found enough in glxinfo and it would be great if this info was
given, maybe in a 'detailed info' button or something.

[Bug 161838] Re: gnome-system-log cannot read .gz logs

May be an ugly fix but:
gconf-editor

add /var/log/auth.log.0, etc ...
it works for SOME gz logs and not others (syslog for instance, I can read .1.gz
but not before, others I can)

2008-01-11 Thread manzano
Hi guys,
Since Nautilus is linked with MANY things, there are many reasons for Nautilus
to crash.
I spent hours to track this one and removed a lot of stuff before pushing the
right triger for me.
Let me ask a question to everyone:
Do you use to have the 'list view' with 'smallest icon size possible' by
default??
If yes, try to increase it to 'small' and give it a try.
When I'll have time, I'll write a full article about it on my unbuntu blog, at
blog.vocamen.com, let me know there if it worked for you.

[Bug 180590] Re: movies dark

2008-01-11 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description didn't include
enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs
effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems.
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 182082] Re: Nautilus cannot preview MP3 files unless mpg123 is installed

2008-01-11 Thread Steeley
I'd expand on this slightly and allow the user to pick from a list of
formats which should be used for audio preview. If the user selects a
codec that is not found on the system (via Gstreamer), it should ask the
user if they would like to install it (again, making note of legality).

Nonetheless, the current implementation is very broken. There is no
coherence to it and several codecs just do not seem to work with audio
previews, FLAC for instance. Those that do work (in theory) such as MP3
and OGG give no indication to novice users about how to get them working
(in practice).

[Bug 182082] Nautilus cannot preview MP3 files unless mpg123 is installed

2008-01-11 Thread Nic
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Nautilus is installed with audio file preview enabled by default.
However, this function doesn't work for MP3 which makes the function
appear broken. There is no mention anywhere that for this to work,
mpg123 needs to be installed. Why not use a feedback system that would
give the right information to the user. For example, the audio preview
could be disabled by default, and when the user specfically enables it,
then ogg tools and mpg123 at least get installed automatically (with
proper message about the legality obviously).

This could be facilitated if nautilus was using gstreamer. This way, it
might be possible to use the same system as in totem to automatically
install missing codecs?

[Bug 182048] double clicking on a paused track doesn't do anything

2008-01-11 Thread Sam Denison
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

Start Totem.

Add any number of tracks to the playlist.

Double click on the first one to start playing it.

Double click on it again. It will start playing again.

Double click on the next one. It will start playing.

But pause a track, now you will find that double clicking doesn't do
anything at all.

Many users would expect double clicking a track to always have the same
behaviour, so in this case, the track should start playing again. Others
may expect the track to unpause and continue playing.

I suppose this is a feature request. Sorry this is the third log using
Apport I have made, the other two Apport didn't make Launchpad come up
in a tab in Opera until I made a new tab and tried again.

Sam out.

[Bug 181900] Re: Evolution-Exchange does not really sync with exchange server

2008-01-11 Thread Keith
I have a similar situation but when viewing mail messages through
webmail. I'm able to fix the mismatch messages by deleting the
.evolution directory

This are the steps that specifically causes this scenario with me:
1. Open evolution to download list of messages
2. Close evolution
3. Login to Exchange webmail
4. Move/delete messages from a directory
5. Log out
6. Start evolution

The email list still appears as it was before executing step 2. If there
are new messages, they do not show up. However, the alert icon appears
and the directory is in bold and it's showing the number of new mail
messages. I go back to webmail after closing evolution to confirm that
there is indeed a new message.

[Bug 182046] Option menu not available when right clicking on the desktop selector

It's just a minor problem: if I lock the gnome panel in gnome config
editor (by checking the box lock_down in /apps/panel/global) and then
right click on the desktop selector, the menu do not offer me the
possibility to change preferences anymore. If I want to change

[Bug 182028] Re: evince and eog freeze on all printing related actions

2008-01-11 Thread Till Kamppeter
This is for sure not a bug in Gutenprint. Gutenprint is a printer
driver, it has no interaction with desktop applications. As printing
works for you in other applications, your printer driver (which is not
necessarily Gutenprint) is OK. The problem is most probably in the
applications itself or in a library which provides their printing
facilities.

 * in the printing preferences from eog or evince, selecting the one specific
available printer instead of "random printer" makes the application freeze
 * printing from eog, evince makes the application freeze

some debugging:
 * I raised the LogLevel to "debug" in /etc/cups/cupsd.conf but could find no
clues in there

What more information could I provide you? Please tell me!

2008-01-11 Thread Joachim Noreiko
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: serpentine

I take an MP3 file that I don't own, but had read access to, and drag it
to serpentine.

Nothing happens.

Sorry for the delay

Yes someone previously said that those of us using an Nvidia card seem
to have the problem.

That is correct, at least for me. I can never get gnome desktop to display
until i kill gnome-keyring proc on my Nvidia card machine, with Ubuntu
restricted Nvidia drivers.

The gnome case number on this is 502603 in case anyone is interested.
It does not have the same title but is the source of the problem and the
developer of gnome-keyring is working on the problem but he is not
experiencing the problem so he has to rely on others to tell him what
the symptoms are.

[Bug 182000] Re: Blackjack - new game request fails

2008-01-11 Thread KevinM
Hi. The game was the default Vegas Strip (I haven't tried any other versions
up to now). There are no drawn cards showing.
I may have got this wrong, but I thought that when I select New Game the
balance should be reset and the amount bet would return to a default value. To
reset the balance I can go to preferences to return the balance to 500. The
bet value stays the same as previously selected until I change it manually.

packages installed, but I wasn't sure how to reproduce the crash, so I
submitted the report. I'll try to install the debug packages now in case
it happens again.
