I have checked:

+ Git tag is correct
+ Source code can compile in my PC
+ Unit test pass
+ Release note looks good to me

By the way, I suggest in the future release for the dependency update
section, we also provide the previous version. so it will look like
"Update xx version from XX to YY".
In this way, users can have a clean understanding and more easily
identify if there is a version issue for their system.

+ source code can compile with jdk8
+ LICENSE and NOTICE file exist

I can see there is a major version update for tomcat_embed from 8 to
9. I suggest highlighting this version update in a release email or
website.

JDK 17 support for Dubbo

2021-09-14 Thread YunKun Huang
Hey all,

JDK 17 is a LTS version, we may need to discuss the support plan for it now.

I'm not sure if there is any break change in here and how much work
needs to be done.

Does anyone have any thoughts?

Also maybe look at editorconfig [https://editorconfig.org/]
This can also help to have the same editor config across different
platforms and editors.

Re: [DISCUSS] Reformat the newlines separator of all source files

2021-05-22 Thread YunKun Huang
This is an issue which needs to be fixed as soon as possible. but it
always requires a good time to do it. because after format code, most
of PR needs rework.

I suggest doing it for the 3.0 version, there are not so many PR
against 3.0 branches. Once all related PR is merged, we can do
formatting first.

I think it's ok to have a spi-extension version to be different from
dubbo. Although it will cause some confusion for users, we have to
make it clear in the document how to choose right version.

[Discussion] About native image

2021-05-10 Thread YunKun Huang
hey all,

Recently I try to use Spring Native Beta in some projects and it's
really really a great improvement with much lower memory usage and
fast start up speed.

I can see those are some open source projects also trying native
image, for example hibernate-graalvm.

Not sure if anyone is using native image for a project with apache dubbo?
Could anyone share some experience or advise what needs to be done to
make it happen?

Maybe it's something we can plan in the near future?

Regards,
Yunkun

2021-05-08 Thread YunKun Huang
I have a quick look at those websites. It's very interesting and
sounds like another version of "Google Summer of Code".

I would like to give +1 for this suggestion.

According to guidelines on website[1], I believe apache dubbo matches
their requirements. The deadline for signup is May 20th.

Those are still something we need figured out before signing up

1.Is there any brand issue? I can see Apache DolphinScheduler is in
the list[2], maybe we can get some information from them
2. What task or issue can be put into the list and who volunteers to
be a mentor?

There is a mirror stuff, somehow I can't find dubbo-rpc-triple in

Re: Deploy snapshot version for dubbo-admin

2021-04-05 Thread YunKun Huang
hey, I may be missing the key word... I mean apache maven snapshot
repo (https://repository.apache.org/), so users can download it and
run with their own PC or server instead of building from source code.

I'm thinking of deploying an all-in-one jar/war package to apache
maven snapshot repo. similar to what we have for dubbo.jar now.

Re: Deploy snapshot version for dubbo-admin

2021-04-05 Thread YunKun Huang
For docker image, I think it's a little hard.
Technically we can deploy a image for every commit, but docker hub
doesn't have a real snapshot label, in most cases, `latest` version
for a docker image also means a stable version.

For apache maven snapshot repo, because dubbo already did something
similar, I can do some investigate to see if it can apply to
dubbo-admin too.

Deploy snapshot version for dubbo-admin

2021-03-29 Thread YunKun Huang
hey all,

I see there are some bug fixes and improvements added to dubbo-admin recently.

dubbo-admin doesn't have a formal release in recent two years, I would
like to suggest deploying snapshot version for dubbo-admin to apache
snapshot repo, so early users can have a try and give feedback.

Any thoughts?

Re: [VOTE] Release Apache Dubbo 3.0.0.preview RC1

I have checked:

1.Unit test works with JDK8
2.can compile from source with JDK8
3.NOTICE and LICENSE file exist

but I have a concern (or question): is `3.0.0.preview` a valid[1]
version number?
I understand this version is unstable and only for early testing
purpose, so what's the version number will be for next preview version
or next stable version?

Re: [Suggest] Dubbo issues problem

2021-01-29 Thread YunKun Huang
Robot is just a tool, before that we need to have a common understanding
for how to manage issues and pull requests.

Label is a good choice to mark issues and pull requests, for situation one,
we can use 'status/waiting-for-feedback'. for situation two, we can create
labels 'duplicate' or 'solved' to manage them.

I also noticed there are some issues related to version 2.5.X or dubbox.
For those issues (old versions, we are not going to support anymore) I
suggest close them too.

it can modify links in the github repo description section[1].
maybe this is something we can use.

Anyway, I'm going to create some issues related to this stuff with the
'help wanted' label. so we can start step by step.

Re: [Suggest] dubbo website from http to https

2021-01-26 Thread YunKun Huang
Not sure. If we all agree with this (use https instead of http), I can see
the following things we can do by ourselves

1.update all links in dubbo website to use https
2.add a htaccess file to redirect all http request to https

I also noticed there is a link in the github repo description, not sure if
that one needs infra to update.

If there is no opposition, we can start with the first two things.

Re: [Suggest] dubbo website from http to https

2021-01-26 Thread YunKun Huang
I don't think we need a CA. because https://dubbo.apache.org works well at
this moment.

Maybe we only need to add some configuration to the website to make
redirection works.

How to handle 404 links to dubbo website

2021-01-24 Thread YunKun Huang
hey,

Since there are some changes in the dubbo website, most of the urls are
changed.
For users coming from search engines, I believe search engines
already update most of urls, so it should be ok for them.
But for users coming from blogs/articles, because reference links will not
automatically updated; When visit old style url, it will show a Not Found
page.

I have two ideas about this:
+ build a custom 404 page and redirect users to this page. so they can go
to the homepage and use the search function to find what they want.
+ use htaccess to redirect all old style url to new url, it will have
better user experience but I'm not sure how much work it needs.

If anyone has experience with related stuff, could you please give some
suggestions?

Thanks
Yunkun

[Suggest] dubbo website from http to https

2021-01-24 Thread YunKun Huang
hey all,

I noticed dubbo website[1] supports both http and https
 + http://dubbo.apache.org/

I'm not sure how the website server is configured but I suggest to redirect
all requests to https. It can be done by adding .htaccess[2] file in the
root folder.

Any thoughts?

AlbumenJ did lots of work to make unit test works with Github Action.

I have merged PR (https://github.com/apache/dubbo/pull/6726) into master.
Let's see how it goes and we can decide if we want to disable travis ci in

Github Action for apache/dubbo CI

2020-11-11 Thread YunKun Huang
hey team,

There is a PR for adding github action for apache/dubbo repo:
https://github.com/apache/dubbo/pull/6726

We are using travis ci at this moment and comparing with Github Action[1],
I can see some benefits to moving to Github Action:

1.Move powerful ecosystem
2.Easy integration with more github activity

There are some discussions about GitHub Actions Concurrency Limits for
Apache projects[2]. it may become an issue when we add more github action
for different github activity, but from my personal view, it should be ok
at this stage.

I suggest to try github action now and keep travis ci at same time. We can
try for example one month to see if things work well.

But I would like to know if its possible to include samples in dubbo-go
instead of dubbo-go-samples?

its more easy to maintain samples with dubbo-go together and manage with

improvements
1. upgrade fastjson to 1.2.70 to fix security issue
2. add new thread pool strategy for Consumer

Re: [DISCUSSION] Define the next generation Dubbo - Dubbo 3.0

2020-07-16 Thread YunKun Huang
hey,

Cloud Native friendly sounds good. but how to define it? What dubbo needs
change to achieve this?

I would like to add more topic for Dubbo 3.0

+ Define Dubbo ecosystem
Currently Dubbo is big and there are many related repos, some of them don't
have updates for a long time.
It's better to have a clean understanding here. to define what Dubbo can
provide and will continually maintain.

+ Roadmap and release plan
For Dubbo 3.0, when there is a clean picture what it should look like. We
need a roadmap.
And also for each version, exclude bug fixes, what kind of feature will
include and what may include.
This can help users to know what's happening to Dubbo and what's the next
step, so they can make better plans for their own stuff, like version
upgrading.

+ Integration with other project/systems
My understanding for Cloud Native, there are many great projects in the
ecosystem. Dubbo is a PRC framework and many of Cloud features can be
implemented with other projects/systems,
maybe we can discuss what project/systems can Dubbo work together with,
maybe for monitoring, service discovery, tracing, router and more.

Question about creating and deleting logic in CuratorZookeeperClient

2020-06-22 Thread Yunkun Huang
hey,

when I'm looking at CuratorZookeeperClient.java, I notice there is a field
named 'persistentExistNodePath' which is designed to speed up api call between
dubbo application and zookeeper registry.

My question is if some application (another dubbo application or a management
system) delete a zookeeper node, CuratorZookeeperClient will not aware it and
going to create sub node, then it will throw NodeNotFoundException.

any one know the original design or more detail can share?

.asf.yaml file

2020-04-28 Thread YunKun Huang
hey,

recently somehow gitbox send all pull request activity for dubbo-go project to
dev channel maillist,
it cause much noise and it's better to have those in notification channel.

According to this
wiki:https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/INFRA/.asf.yaml+features+for+git+repositories#id-.asf.yamlfeaturesforgitrepositories-Notificationsettingsforrepositories
we can use .asf.yaml file to control this, I already commit a change to
dubbo-go repo.

If this works well, I suggest all dubbo projects should check their own
configuration. (link https://gitbox.apache.org/schemes.cgi?dubbo-go) and create
.asf.yaml file if necessary

dubbo-build-tools?

2020-04-27 Thread YunKun Huang
hey,

I notice our snapshot deployment job fail recently (
https://builds.apache.org/job/Apache%20Dubbo/job/apache-dubbo-snapshot-deployment/1036/consoleFull),
but travis ci is passing.

According to jenkins log, it looks like there is a new module named `
dubbo-build-tools` which fail snapshot deployment process.

Does anyone have idea about this? what's the purpose of this?

Re: [DISCUSS] Speed up the building process of the project

2020-04-23 Thread YunKun Huang
I checked travis ci, currently master branch build time is around 15~25
minutes. For my view, it's not a big number.

for 1. I think it's really depends on how we treat those SPI extensions, if
they are not part of core feature, yes let's do this. but we need find a
way to handle release process between different repos and also handle
different issue in different repo.

for 2. if some plugins are unnecessary, we need considering remove them
instead of disable them.

if only consider reducing build time, how are about multiple threads build?
we can run multi CI build at same time.
Also if build in your own PC, we can special project when exec maven command

I have checked:

A few question here:

1. I ses //FIXME in source code, it's should be fix before release? (
https://github.com/apache/dubbo/blob/dubbo-2.7.6/dubbo-cluster/src/main/java/org/apache/dubbo/rpc/cluster/support/registry/ZoneAwareClusterInvoker.java#L62
)
2. There is some public method name change, it may need note in releaes
note or somewhere (
https://github.com/apache/dubbo/blob/dubbo-2.7.6/dubbo-common/src/main/java/org/apache/dubbo/rpc/model/ApplicationModel.java#L80
)
3. I see version update for one or two third-party java libraries in this
release, should we have a regular checking to keep latest version or latest
major version for third-party libraries? for example, we are depends on
spring library 4.X, the latest version is 5.X

Release branch and master branch

2020-01-02 Thread Yunkun Huang
hey all,

I notice there are some changes apply to release branch 2.7.5-release, and some
of them are code change to fix issue.

My understanding is master branch should contains them, so should we merge
2.7.5-release to master via PR or just do cherry-pick?
if we need do this, should we do this once release finish?

Hi,

[x] +0 no opinion

I have checked:

I vote for +0, because this RC is ok with checklist, but I have concern for
usage with @PostConstruct.
Dubbo-common modules are using @PostConstruct [1], this annotation is
removed in java 11 and it's implement by third party library,
which means application may fail in any jdk higher than jdk8. it may
doesn't work if there is no library or code implement this annonation.
if we still want to do this, we need highlight this risk in release note or
README file

Document versioning

hey all,

Dubbo website provides document for dubbo project. It using docsite[1] to
generate html pages. It using markdown format.

There is one issue for this way is document always the latest version,
ideally document should provide to user with version. for example [2][3]

Not sure if docsite support this feature? there are also some other choice
like asciidoctor[4], but I'm sure how much effect it requires to do
migration work.

Any thoughts?

Github action for dubbo-website deployment

2019-09-27 Thread Yunkun Huang
hey all,

Currently dubbo-website is using apache jenkins to do website deployment.
because the resource limitation, sometime apache jenkins is not very stable and
we need wait available executor to do deployment. Also for apache jenkins, only
people have access can view configuration.

Github action is Github built-in CI service and it has built-in write access
for repo. and configuration file is in .github/workflow folder.

I try to use github action to do dubbo-website deployment work. refer to PR:
https://github.com/apache/dubbo-website/pull/480. it can meet our requirement.
(auto build and deploy to asf-site branch)

There is how deployment logs look like:
https://github.com/htynkn/dubbo-website/runs/238553250

I suggest we disable apache jenkins deployment job and switch to github action
to do website deployment.
