Hi Kayan,

I am against the play/pause button as well. It should work with minimum
clicks. Keep it elegant

Carousals are a elegant way to display content without reloading the
whole page.

It is one of the latest trends based on visual appeal and space
effectiveness.

Check out Global Spotlight in http://global.nytimes.com/. Rotates
automatically untill user intervenes.

Or, http://www.yahoo.com/ where the snippets appear on mouse over.. that
saves a lot of clicking.

More examples -

les/

I think you can set the timing according to the content.

Cheers,

2010-02-15 Thread Graham Sear
Hi Kagan,

I've recently ended up using carousels as they allow for freeing up
valuable screen space resulting in less visual clutter, giving a
cleaner design. So, I am pretty much in favour of them if you have a
lot of content you have to display. Obviously they still have to be
implemented correctly...

If you're looking for design pattern input, when it's best to use a
carousel and how best to implement them, these websites should help:
http://developer.yahoo.com/ypatterns/selection/carousel.html

- further down the page there are a few small tips.

Cheers

Re: [IxDA Discuss] Flash Rotators

2010-02-14 Thread Yvonnia Martin
Well, first thing's first: this is not flash, its unobtrusive
javascript so that is a huge plus in my book! The pause/play buttons
really do help to give the users control, which is good for UX. From
a business perspective, the headlines allow Yahoo to keep itself
current. And because this is current information, it facilitates
snacking. Jakob Nielsen is all in favor of users coming back to a
site to nibble...It's more in line with human behavior, and because
more and more folks are on DSL etc, the concept of "stickiness" may
no longer be valid.

I give the rotations a thumbs up ;o)
