@Soulkeeper:
again: how does this influence the volumeknob on the server.
Changing the volume functions correctly up to 10 o'clock and then
nothing.
In the thread you mention, the person only hears something very faint
when the volumeknob is at its max...

Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Squeezeslave: 1.0 released

2011-05-04 Thread sweiss

Hi,

I have SqueezeSlave running on a Hauppauge MediaMVP-HD utilizing both
RCA and optical SPDIF outputs -- but it is touchy.

If I switch songs, sometimes I hear the "digital" noise before the new
song starts. Also, some radio stations seem to cause the MediaMVP to
crash & reboot.

I was able to get SqueezeSlave running as follows:
1) I obtained the correct copy of "em8xxxoss.ko"
2) I downloaded the linux source from Hauppauge's site and cross
compiled it to get the "soundcore.ko" library
3) I downloaded from googlecode
"squeezeslave-1.0-225-mipsel-lnx26.tar.gz" and used the executable with
the static libraries compiled in.

As there have been fixes to SqueezeSlave, I wanted to recompile the
latest version to see if it fixes my issues, but it seems to choke on
cross-compiling libFlac.

So, if you can:
1) Let me know where I can download the latest SqueezeSlave mipsel
binary for OSS with the static libraries
2) Let me know how I can cross compile SqueezeSlave for mipsel

It would be greatly appreciated.

Likewise, if anyone wants what I have so far, please let me know.

Thanks!
Steve

Re: [slim] Automatically Powering Down a Dumb Amplifier

2011-05-04 Thread peterw

If you don't want to solder and run Squeezebox Server locally (vs. using
MySqueezbox.com), check out my PowerCenter plugin.

If by energy saving plug you mean a fancy power strip that shuts off
power to some outlets when the appliance plugged into the "trigger"
outlet is turned off, that almost certainly won't work. All the
Squeezebox players use only 1 or 2 watts more when "on" than when "off"
(at most!) which is not enough difference for those power strips to
detect.

It seems to me that if water streams and birds sounds are so realistic,
then orchestral works and concerts might also have some comparable
additional degree of quality and authenticity. Perhaps I am not

You read/heard that differently than I did. That wasn't my
understanding of how this would work in practice. What I understood is
that this is an algorithm that can take ANY and all recorded "2D"
material and that material, when run through the algorithm, will come
out---either as broadcast, or on a CD, movie track, etc.as 3D sound
out of a 2 speaker setup.

My assumption was---and perhaps naively due to my limited technical
knowledge---was that the algorithm, like those used for DAC filters,
etc...could, if that assumption was correct, then be incorporated into
the SBS software.

I was just listening to the audio "article" at the beginning, and the
inventor said, "By the way, the filter is not adding anything; *it's
just taking away crosstalk*."

If that's correct, then yes, it sounds like a company could implement
this technology with a filter.

Why would Logitech need to do anything ? The whole point of the

There is nothing for Logitech to do to support this.

But on the backlog (but I guess soon to come).

Fantastic job, works well for me!

I've even got this working over 3G. I've installed LAME to allow SBS to
convert to a 3G-friendly rate. Setting this right reduces the buffering
time considerably.

One possible enhancement would be to allow the bitrate to be changed
via the phone UI. I'm thinking there are times I'd want higher quality
(when I'm on WiFi) and times when I expect to need to use a lower rate
(over 3G). Just some food for thought.

Another thing to think about is whether you want your squeezeboxserver
and your "main" PC to be the same box? My main desktop PC gets used by
every member of my household, with a wide range of software. As a
result, it's not unusual to require reboots and/or to experience
"crashes". I found it very nice to have the squeezeboxserver running
on a separate, low power/reasonably quiet Atom mini PC which runs 24/7
with practically no intervention. I don't have to worry about the
music stopping in the living room because my son crashed the PC running
some video game.

Is your Droid staying on all the time (or can you try making it not
fall into any sleep situation if that makes a difference?)
Can you try what happens, when you keep it power connected, so that it
does not run from battery?

Please also send me your DeviceID (there is a free App for that called
DeviceID) to support(at)squeezeplayer.com and I can send you a version
with debug logs enabled, that might give us a clue.

Re: [slim] Finally, the best Controller App arrives at iOS!

2011-05-04 Thread maggior

I've noticed a couple of annoyances in the Logitech app. I don't recall
if anybody else has noticed them:

1) When browsing albums from "new music", you cannot touch-and-hold and
get a menu with options to add the album to the playlist. You get this
behavior when browsing albums with other methods.
2) When scrolling albums, the artwork does not update until the
scrolling has come to a stop.

Re: [slim] Finally, the best Controller App arrives at iOS!

2011-05-04 Thread hvb83

Been using iPeng for almost 2 years now, bought Squeezepad too, both of
which have become evolved into fine apps. Out of curiosity I installed
the Logitech app yesterday, but got fed-up when I had to enter my
online-account. Why would they need that for a controller? Deleted it.

Even still, the way I see it, the situation is good for all of us.
Sonos was getting much publicity because their system could be
controlled with their free app, now that Squeezebox has something
similar, the platform hopefully becomes more popular. And since the
pricing is much friendlier, hopefully the system will become
mainstream. With that, it gets more interesting for Logitech to finally
bring out some new players.

For sure, developers will need to find another way of generating profit
out of their apps in order to keep developing. The idea of creating a
free/add-version proposed a few pages ago might be a good solution. I
don't know about pricing, but I imagine if somebody uses the app for a
few months and plays with for half an hour a day, the add-revenues will
more than rise over the €7.99 you get when selling the app.

Really unusual problem for me - when i load the app it asks for my
mysqueezebox username and password, which I key in. It then asks for
the username and password for my squeezebox server for my music
library. I cannot for the life of me see why it needs this (there isn't
one).
Things I have checked:
1. My duets, my iPeng and my Squeemote connect immediately without
asking for it
2. I checked in security in queezebox server and I have no password set
and access allowed to all devices on my local network
3. I checked my firewall and squeezebox server is given full access
4. I checked windows 7 network sharing and sharing is set to no
password

Help? Please!

To me this reads as: I'm turning the volumeknob from 7 o'clock till 10
o'clock and the music gets louder (as expected) but from 10 o'clock
till 5 o'clock nothing happens to the volume...
That sounds to me as a hardware limitation/problem/malfunction at the

SqueezePad uses the server language by the way, to be consistent with
Web-UI. No user complained so far.
This decision dates back from times, when iPad didn't support all
languages the Squeeze-server had.

Doesn't work in MySB.com though as it doesn't provide a language
setting.
I also remember users (directly connected to MySB.com) reporting that
the language of one client influences the language of another client.

Same problem with iPeng vs SBS SqueezePlay .

iPeng also makes the simplified asumption that the pad's language is
what you want, but i prefer the language setting in sbs to decide
that.

I use 7.6 beta I prefer english on my controllers and servers even if

Re: [slim] New computer to act as server..?

2011-05-04 Thread slate

The machine that yocky put together is powerfull enough for you to use
for all daily tasks.

You did mention "quiet" and "minimum power"

Many people here use a ATOM or AMD Brazo based system as they are
powerfull enough for SBS and use little power.
And they are fine for casual browsing, especially if you buy the ATOM
with added ION graphics or the Brazo; They can accelerate youtube
videos and the generel experience.
Actually this is what is inside most Nettop, just look for "ION" and
"AMD".

It might be OK for you if you do not do any FPS gaming and depending on
what "some work" means.

Otherwise there are more powerfull options that does not use that much
more power and still come in small boxes

Are you looking to buy a finished product or put something together?

"Would a Windows 7-based system have the ability to sit quietly in an
'always-on' function and run the SB server?"

Sure; the system listed in my signature was pieced together 2 years
ago. It runs Win7 and from memory it uses 28W when SBS is handing out
music.
But not 'always-on', it goes asleep and is then fired up again when I
use my Controller or SlimCtrl; they send a WOL package on the LAN
interface which "kicks" the server. In my setup it takes 6-10 seconds
and then music is playing.

Well, I *must* send a language in the HTTP header.
But maybe I can make this configurable for the user...

But it's *really, really* strange, that the language of your SBC
changes as well!

Could you please drop me a line at
android ATT flattermann DOTT net

and I'll try to fix this problem in the Beta version for you.

Yes, I'm sending it as
"Accept-Language"
in the HTTP header.

I think this is needed to have the MusicServices/Apps strings
localized, right?

Re: [slim] New computer to act as server..?

2011-05-04 Thread yocky

You can go to great lengths (and great expense) to build a silent
computer and in some situations it's worth the effort.but fairly
cheap stock components can be pretty quiet these days.

I just built a PC with an Enermax 500W PSU (complete overkill), 3 5400
RPM drives and a 3 GHz dual core energy efficient AMD CPU running the
stock fan and I can barely hear it when I put my ear to the case. Runs
at about 70W.

It depends how much other background noise you've got going on I
suppose.

flattermann - are you using the http header to do so?

It shouldn't. Are both devices (phone & Controller) set up to use the same
language? Is it the same as on the server?

The language override per device should only be for that particular device, and
it should not change the server's global setting.
