Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Squeezeslave: 1.0 released
Hi, I have SqueezeSlave running on a Hauppauge MediaMVP-HD utilizing both RCA and optical SPDIF outputs -- but it is touchy. If I switch songs, sometimes I hear the "digital" noise before the new song starts. Also, some radio stations seem to cause the MediaMVP to crash & reboot. I was able to get SqueezeSlave running as follows: 1) I obtained the correct copy of "em8xxxoss.ko" 2) I downloaded the linux source from Hauppauge's site and cross compiled it to get the "soundcore.ko" library 3) I downloaded from googlecode "squeezeslave-1.0-225-mipsel-lnx26.tar.gz" and used the executable with the static libraries compiled in. As there have been fixes to SqueezeSlave, I wanted to recompile the latest version to see if it fixes my issues, but it seems to choke on cross-compiling libFlac. So, if you can: 1) Let me know where I can download the latest SqueezeSlave mipsel binary for OSS with the static libraries 2) Let me know how I can cross compile SqueezeSlave for mipsel It would be greatly appreciated. Likewise, if anyone wants what I have so far, please let me know. Thanks! Re: [slim] Automatically Powering Down a Dumb Amplifier
If you don't want to solder and run Squeezebox Server locally (vs. using MySqueezbox.com), check out my PowerCenter plugin. If by energy saving plug you mean a fancy power strip that shuts off power to some outlets when the appliance plugged into the "trigger" outlet is turned off, that almost certainly won't work. All the Squeezebox players use only 1 or 2 watts more when "on" than when "off" (at most!) which is not enough difference for those power strips to detect. -- peterw http://www.tux.org/~peterw/ Free plugins: 'AllQuiet' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/AllQuiet.html) 'Auto Dim/AutoDisplay' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/AutoDisplay.html) 'BlankSaver' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/BlankSaver.html) 'ContextMenu' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/ContextMenu.html) 'DenonSerial' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/DenonSerial.html) 'FuzzyTime' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/FuzzyTime.html) 'KidsPlay' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/KidsPlay.html) 'KitchenTimer' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/KitchenTimer.html) 'PlayLog' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/PlayLog.html) 'PowerCenter/BottleRocket' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/PowerCenter.html) 'SaverSwitcher' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/SaverSwitcher.html) 'SettingsManager' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/SettingsManager.html) 'SleepFade' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/SleepFade.html) 'StatusFirst' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/StatusFirst.html) 'SyncOptions' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/SyncOptions.html) 'VolumeLock' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/VolumeLock.html) peterw's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2107 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=87405 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

You read/heard that differently than I did. That wasn't my understanding of how this would work in practice. What I understood is that this is an algorithm that can take ANY and all recorded "2D" material and that material, when run through the algorithm, will come out---either as broadcast, or on a CD, movie track, etc.as 3D sound out of a 2 speaker setup. My assumption was---and perhaps naively due to my limited technical knowledge---was that the algorithm, like those used for DAC filters, etc...could, if that assumption was correct, then be incorporated into the SBS software. -- rgro Rick System information Main: PS Audio Quintet > Vortexbox > Touch (wired) via spdif coax > Rega DAC > Marantz PM8003 > VA Mozart Grands > REL Acoustics R305. Fantastic job, works well for me! I've even got this working over 3G. I've installed LAME to allow SBS to convert to a 3G-friendly rate. Setting this right reduces the buffering time considerably. One possible enhancement would be to allow the bitrate to be changed via the phone UI. I'm thinking there are times I'd want higher quality (when I'm on WiFi) and times when I expect to need to use a lower rate (over 3G). Re: [slim] Finally, the best Controller App arrives at iOS!
Been using iPeng for almost 2 years now, bought Squeezepad too, both of which have become evolved into fine apps. Out of curiosity I installed the Logitech app yesterday, but got fed-up when I had to enter my online-account. Why would they need that for a controller? Deleted it. Even still, the way I see it, the situation is good for all of us. Sonos was getting much publicity because their system could be controlled with their free app, now that Squeezebox has something similar, the platform hopefully becomes more popular. And since the pricing is much friendlier, hopefully the system will become mainstream. With that, it gets more interesting for Logitech to finally bring out some new players. For sure, developers will need to find another way of generating profit out of their apps in order to keep developing. The idea of creating a free/add-version proposed a few pages ago might be a good solution. I don't know about pricing, but I imagine if somebody uses the app for a few months and plays with for half an hour a day, the add-revenues will more than rise over the 7.99 you get when selling the app. -- hvb83 SB Receiver, Marantz SR5004, Harman Kardon HKTS11 SB Radio SB Server 7.5.1 running on a Synology DS210+ NAS iPhone running iPeng 1.2.8 and iPad running iPeng for iPad and SqueezePad hvb83's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=39615 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=87212 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

SqueezePad uses the server language by the way, to be consistent with Web-UI. No user complained so far. This decision dates back from times, when iPad didn't support all languages the Squeeze-server had. Doesn't work in MySB.com though as it doesn't provide a language setting. Re: [slim] New computer to act as server..?
The machine that yocky put together is powerfull enough for you to use for all daily tasks. You did mention "quiet" and "minimum power" Many people here use a ATOM or AMD Brazo based system as they are powerfull enough for SBS and use little power. And they are fine for casual browsing, especially if you buy the ATOM with added ION graphics or the Brazo; They can accelerate youtube videos and the generel experience. Actually this is what is inside most Nettop, just look for "ION" and "AMD". It might be OK for you if you do not do any FPS gaming and depending on what "some work" means. Otherwise there are more powerfull options that does not use that much more power and still come in small boxes Are you looking to buy a finished product or put something together? "Would a Windows 7-based system have the ability to sit quietly in an 'always-on' function and run the SB server?" Sure; the system listed in my signature was pieced together 2 years ago. It runs Win7 and from memory it uses 28W when SBS is handing out music. But not 'always-on', it goes asleep and is then fired up again when I use my Controller or SlimCtrl; they send a WOL package on the LAN interface which "kicks" the server. In my setup it takes 6-10 seconds and then music is playing. -- slate Main: Receiver (Audiocom) -> Beresford Caiman+ (Gatorized) -> Carver A-500x -> B&W 704 Office: Receiver -> Luxman L-210 -> Stax SR84 Pro/Superlux HD668B Server: Zotac IONITX-A, 4 GB, 1 TB WD EADS, Win7 w. 7.6 (SQLite w. You can go to great lengths (and great expense) to build a silent computer and in some situations it's worth the effort.but fairly cheap stock components can be pretty quiet these days. I just built a PC with an Enermax 500W PSU (complete overkill), 3 5400 RPM drives and a 3 GHz dual core energy efficient AMD CPU running the stock fan and I can barely hear it when I put my ear to the case.
