hello welcome to the community, seems you have been able to research on the
basics steps to contribute. The email archieve could help you understand at
which point is the progress of the project and would be able to incorporate
to it. Please review the most recent emails from:
http://mail-archives.apache.org/mod_mbox/openoffice-doc/

Of course other members would chip in and give you an update on the work
performed so you have some options.

Documentation Mailing List

2013-12-15 Thread De Angela Jackson
Hello,

My name is De Angela, and I am interested in contributing as a writer.

I have some knowledge (a semester's worth) of C++, Python, Visual
Basic, Adobe Dreamweaver, and some web design. I learned some Java on
my own. Most of my writing has been through English courses, labs,
and other college course work:
https://sites.google.com/site/deangelamjackson/

I read through several modules already. I wanted to make sure that I
wanted to commit to volunteering first. This is what I've read so
far: New Volunteer Orientation, Introduction to Contributing to Apache
OpenOffice, How the Apache OpenOffice Project Works, Decision Making,
Infrastructure, and Introduction to Documentation.

Now, I am going to sign up for the various wikis and the Directory of
Volunteers.

Thank you.

De Angela

Re: Openoffice.uni documentation (Re: Fwd: Documention - sort of)

2013-12-15 Thread Dave
Hi Andrea,

Thanks for your encouraging words. Yes of course I would love to have my
efforts integrated into the Apache/Wiki project. Have absolutely no
experience though how wiki works. I actually did have a look at the wiki a
few weeks ago, and found nowhere where to post a link. Could you help me
here? As to license: I'm open to anything which is open. Please tell me how
I should reformulate that part.

At present I'm fine tuning English and German versions simulataneously, to
make sure they are both exactly the same, then will adapt the French to
these. Kateryna has translated just the introduction into Russian and
Ukrainian, so that's a nice step. Three students at our uni are doing an
Arab version which should be complete by March.

All the best and thanks
Dave

Hello Dave, I did take a look today. You have some nice documentation
available, and all of it is up-to-date. Why don't you contribute it to
the official OpenOffice wiki? This would make things easier in several
respects: your documentation would be found much more easily by search
engines and it would be more justified that you look for translators
here. This is much like it worked for the ODF Authors group: they were
publishing their documentation on the OpenOffice wiki and still
maintaining the ODT and PDF versions available on their site, with
mutual benefits.

I see that you are using a different license than the Apache License 2
(the OpenOffice license, and the recommended license for new wiki
content). So this might be an issue to consider; just make your choice
and feel free to ask any questions.

The official place for OpenOffice documentation is here:
https://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/Documentation/

Regards,
  Andrea.
