*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1201405 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1201405 ** This bug has been marked a duplicate of bug 1201405 [regression] Wall: keyboard bindings for 'Move up & Move down' are being set to "super+prior & super+next' -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. Matching subscriptions: dx-packages https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1227159 Title: Keyboard shortcuts to switch workspaces borked Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: The keyboard shortcuts to change workspaces have been ctrl-alt-arrow for a long time now. As of 13.10, the shortcuts for up/down have been changed to Super-pgup/pgdn. This change makes it exceptionally cumbersome to quickly switch between different workspaces to the extent that it is essentially broken and one is limited to either vertical or horizontal workspaces. Whereas one could previously cycle through all 4 workspaces in the default 2x2 grid, this is now practically impossible without a level of finger dexterity I doubt anyone short of a concert pianist possesses. I realize that one could argue that this is not a bug, but rather an "opinion". That would be naive, however, as using all four workspaces with just keyboard shortcuts is not effectively broken. The fix is easy. Either revert to ctr-alt-arrow or switch to super- arrow (in all four directions). The currently 13.10 mix-and-match approach, however, is a usability nightmare. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1241245] [NEW] non resizable window stuck on magnetic borders
Public bug reported: On current 13.10 release, when trying to move around non resizable windows (eg. system settings) they seem to react to magnetic borders. Sometimes when the pointer hit the screen border while dragging and the button is released then, the window is stuck and cannot be moved anymore. No "grab hand" appears on pressing the mousebutton while on the title bar anymore. Double clicking the title bar makes it movable again. So I guess the window reacts to the magnetic border, even if it is not resizeable and no visual resize-effect is shown at all. But it behaves as it would be enlarged to fullscreen or something after that, until it is restored to normal state by double clicking the title bar. ** Affects: unity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. Hi Klavs, Thank you for reporting this bug. This is very strange. I reproduced the issue the first time I tried, but I have not been able to ever since. I also tried on a different machine and could not reproduce. Unfortunately, without being able to reproduce again, I'm unable to debug the issue right now. Does this happen every time for you? Which application(s) are you using full screen? Are you using Ctrl-Super-Down to minimize the full screen window? I'm going to mark this bug Incomplete pending your response. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1240957] Re: Scrolling behaviour and window focus has changed and is inconsistent
Hi Lem, Thanks for reporting this bug. I believe this is due to some changes in scrolling behavior in Gtk+3.0. I've been trying to work with the Gtk+3 upstream to fix some mouse wheel issues, but it's slow going. ** Package changed: unity (Ubuntu) => gtk+3.0 (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: gtk+3.0 (Ubuntu) Status: New => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. Matching subscriptions: dx-packages https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1240957 Title: Scrolling behaviour and window focus has changed and is inconsistent Status in “gtk+3.0” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I wasn't sure which package to file this bug against, but seeing as it's a general desktop usability/consistency bug, the top level desktop environment seemed like a good target. On Ubuntu 13.10, AMD64, everything default (Unity 7 on X.org etc), except for installing nvidia-319-updates, all current packages as of now (2013-10-17; unity 7.1.2+13.10.20131014.1-0ubuntu1), I now have this behaviour which is different from Ubuntu versions up to 13.04, and, is also inconsistent within itself. Here's what I've found: The scrolling behaviour has changed, and seems to be different per application in Ubuntu 13.10. The old behaviour (up to 13.04): mouse pointer above window would allow scrolling, regardless of focus Apps that use the old behaviour: libreoffice, firefox, gnome-terminal The new behaviour (13.10): window must be focused, and pointer hovered above to allow scrolling Apps that use the new behaviour: nautilus, gedit, ubuntu-bug, software-updater STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Open gEdit, press enter until the window is scrollable. 2. Open Firefox, go to a webpage that's scrollable. 3. Place gEdit above Firefox but off to the right side so gEdit's scrollbar is still visible, have gEdit focused. 4. Position mouse pointer above gEdit, observe scrollwheel causes gEdit window to scroll. 5. Move mouse pointer above Firefox but do not focus Firefox, observe scrollwheel causes Firefox window to scroll. 6. Focus Firefox, leave pointer above Firefox, observe scrollwheel causes Firefox window to scroll 7. Move mouse pointer above gEdit but do not focus gEdit, observe scrollwheel FAILS to cause gEdit window to scroll. This behaviour is the same with any combination of the above apps (libreoffice, firefox, gnome-terminal all scrollable as long as pointer is above them; nautilus, gedit, software-updater, ubunut-bug will not scroll unless focused *and* have pointer above them) What *SHOULD* happen, is that any window will scroll as long as the pointer is above it. That's how it's always been in Ubuntu. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1240977] [NEW] some modal dialog windows such as chromium-browser get stuck/lost/do not raise if on different desktop
Public bug reported: Long bug title, but I see some issues with dialog windows and unity (or compiz) and multiple desktops. I have 6 different desktops and typically leave a chromium-browser running in one. I'll have full screen windows in the others, and To reproduce my initial problem: * run a chromium-browser in one desktop * switch to a different desktop * get an alert (such as calender notice) from chromium * click on a different window (ie, "lose" that window) * try to find it Clicking on the chromium icon in the launcher focuses the primary chromium-browser window, which is not usable because the dialog was modal. I can see other similar issues even with 'ubuntu-bug's dialog windows. * run 'ubuntu-bug unity'. That openes one "Apport" window with "Collecting problem information" and then another with 'Thanks for reporting'. * put both windows partially hidden by a different window (browser or gnome-terminal, it doesnt matter) * try to click on the exposed portion of the initial Apport window. it will not raise. If you can't see its title bar, and cant see the 'Thanks' window (or do not know it even exists), then you cannot get it to raise. * Move the 'Thanks' window to a different desktop (alt-space to bring up the menu). Then try clicking on the Apport icon on the launcher, and see that it does nothing. Worse, if you switch to a different desktop (even the one with the 'Thanks' window) it switches you back to the 'Apport' window and raises that window, which is modal and thus cannot be used. If you hvae lots of desktops and lots of windows, it can be very hard to find the modal dialog. I've given up before and just killed chromium- browser. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1240957] [NEW] Scrolling behaviour and window focus has changed and is inconsistent
Public bug reported: I wasn't sure which package to file this bug against, but seeing as it's a general desktop usability/consistency bug, the top level desktop environment seemed like a good target.
