[Dx-packages] [Bug 1272448] Re: December 2013 updates to 12.04 LTS cause multiple problems
Issue No. 10 has been resolved, but a new issue has appeared and an old one (2) reappeared: 11. There appears to be a slow memory leak that manifests itself with Firefox (though it may be elsewhere). When the system is left powered up for an extended period (over a week, as observed in this case), one or more of the windows become non-responsive. 12. System will not restart when shut down -- bootstrap fails with a green screen (GSOD?). Power (the battery) must be removed to be able to shut down and restart. This is similar to, but different in some details, from previous shutdown/restart issues which appeared in December, 2013. Formerly issue (2). Issues 1 and 9 remain unresolved. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. Matching subscriptions: dx-packages https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1272448 Title: December 2013 updates to 12.04 LTS cause multiple problems Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: December 2013 and January 2014 updates have caused numerous usability problems. Some disappear, then reappear. All the following are current. 1. Firefox and Thunderbird no longer find internet connection when connected wirelessly. System reports wireless connection is established and working, but neither FF nor TB cab find it. Wired connection works OK. This problem first appeared in early December and has continued to date (January 24, 2014). 2. Booting HP Pavilion dv6 laptop fails when external power is connected. Boots OK on battery alone. Bug reported. Problem appeared after January 1, 2014. 3. Firefox loses tab history -- it's still there, but inaccessable unless I reboot. Long-standing issue. 4. Right-click no longer works in Firefox. Can't copy or cut-and- paste. 5. After running for more than a few hours, Firefox window frames become transparent and Firefox no longer works. 6. When using LibreOffice, screen updates cause brief, but very annoying, display flashing or blanking. Blanking is sometimes extended up to ten seconds. (AMD A-8 quad-core processor with 6 GB main memory!). Very alarming. 7. Lost ability to scroll, etc. using "gestures" shortly after January 1, 2014. 8. Unity magically appearing/disappearing scroll tabs replaced Gnome's hard scrollbars. That's not nice. I don't like them. 9. Firefox never, ever restores automagically (though it always did in 10.04 LTS and does on Linux Mint). This issue has been outstanding for two years, or more. No biggie, but it's annoying and very unprofessional. Two bugs reported on this vs. Oneric! C'mon, people. Surely you can do better than that. This system is single-boot Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Gnome 3/Unity on an ext4 filesystem, installed about August 6, 2012 and kept up to date. What happened to the concept that 12.04 was to be a "stable" release? This is the most unstable *n*x OS release I have ever used since 1999 (SuSE 5 through 8, Ubuntu 8.04, 10.04, Mint 13 and 14). This nonsense makes Microsoft Windows almost seem desirable. I also use Linux Mint 14 on other "boxes", an HP Pavilion dv7 and a Dell Optiplex GX620. None of these issues affect Mint 14, although it is based on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Mint 14 has its own issues, but none affect usability like these do). Unity sucks stumpwater. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1226962]
Hello everyone! After months of switching layouts and banging my head against this bug, I thought I should check LibreOffice settings (I'm using 4.1.5.3 now). What figures? I did find something. And in just a few clicks. This is not a bug! It's simply a matter of configuration. For the regular keyboard shortcuts (like Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V, etc.) to remain operational in LibreOffice applications while using a non-latin keyboard layout (like Greek or Russian), go to Tools -> Options -> Language Settings -> Languages, check the Ignore system input language option, save, and Bob's your uncle. Hope this helps. Cheers! PS Technically, though, shortcuts still remain language-dependent. This means if you enable this option, you will have to set your document languages manually. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. RAM is 1GB. Removed .xession-errors which had more than 60MB, compiz crash report had 119MB. After that I was able to file this bug via terminal. So there is no .xsession-errors included. Procedure: Install CCSM. Enable Ring Switcher. Result: crash ## Popup window: Due to Compiz shutdown, report a bug, restart or close. I choose to restart, after this desktop reloads everthing, except CCSM in unity pane is gone (every time after restarting compiz). Enable Desktop Cube. Result: crash and same popup window as above. I choose to report a bug. Result: Total freeze, probably due to less space. No keys work e.g. to open a terminal, screen is empty, only CCSM is still open without window borders, graphic is corrupt. Doesn't let me make a screenshot due to less disk space. (Made it later after removing logfiles.) Workaround: create a folder via right click on desktop, you're not able to give it a name, because you can't type anything. Open the folder, it opens Nautilus. Navigate to /usr/share/applications and double click on 'compiz'. Desktop reloads, but still looks like the screenshot. Also removed logfiles. Change wallpaper and transparency of viewport. Result: crash. No window borders, no key function. Restart compiz via /usr/share/applications. Now everthing comes up ok and due to cleaning some diskspace able to file a bug. [Dx-packages] [Bug 880881] Re: Power indicator does not combine multiple battery status
I forgot to mention this is a laptop with two batteries that I am speaking of. Linux 3.0.0-12-generic #20-Ubuntu SMP Fri Oct 7 14:56:25 UTC 2011 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux The power indicator (indicator-power, version 0.9-0ubuntu2) does not combine the status of both batteries. E.g. if one battery still has 1 hour left, and the other has 2 hours left, it will show 1:00 or 2:00, instead of 3:00. E.g. When the external battery is almost run out (but the internal one is still charged), the indicator becomes red, instead of staying white/grey. It should only be red when both batteries are almost drained. E.g. when the internal one is fully charged, and the external one is discharging, the estimated time show is the estimated time that the external one will be discharged, not taking into account the internal one. see attached screenshot (total time show should be around 4 hours) The original applet provided by gnome (I re-enabled the notification area) does (still) have the behavior as I expect. [Dx-packages] [Bug 880881] Re: Power indicator does not combine multiple battery status
I will add my comments, Charles, you say this is by design, but it is a design flaw. The battery gets down to about 5 minutes remaining, and stops discharging. That means, it will ALWAYS show 5 minutes remaining in the panel, but it is really only discharging from the second battery at that point. Unfortunately it always chooses the mouse battery for display in the > panel. > > This is of course completely useless, as I want to see how long the laptop > battery lasts, not how long the mouse battery lasts. It seems to be > impossible to select which battery to display in the panel? Selecting the mouse battery over the desktop battery is by design iff the mouse is reporting it will run empty sooner than the laptop. From the spec: > "The menu title should tell you at a glance what you need to know most: what device will lose power soonest (and optionally when), or otherwise which device will take longest to charge, optionally how long it will take, and optionally its current charge level. More detailed information can be accessed inside the menu itself. " -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to indicator-power in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/880881 Title: Power indicator does not combine multiple battery status Status in The Power Indicator: Triaged Status in “indicator-power” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: I have an EliteBook 8540w with internal and external battery running Ubuntu 11.10 (oneiric). In other words, this is a regression compared to 10.10 (pre-unity). The fix wasn't released yet, but once it's in, it'll fix the gnome- terminal setting under Edit -> Keyboard Shortcuts... -> Enable menu access keys. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to unity-gtk-module in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1282782 Title: Newest compiz/unity has decided that it owns my Alt key Status in Compiz: Triaged Status in Unity GTK+ module: Fix Committed Status in “compiz” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in “unity-gtk-module” package in Ubuntu: In Progress Bug description: gnome-terminal has a setting that intentionally stops Alt grabs for menus (Edit -> Keyboard Shortcuts -> Enable Menu Access), which I've always used to allow me to type "Alt-F" (and others) in my terminals. In the past, this always worked great, and I could type Alt-F in, say, mutt, to change my From address. As of the latest uploads, I'm now reduced to the awkward Esc-F, because Alt-F brings up the file menu, no matter how much I wish it wouldn't. Pretty please fix this regression. (I assume the same annoyance would be happening on my attempts to use Alt-[1-0] in irssi, if gnome-terminal had a menu whose shortcut was a digit, but thankfully it doesn't.) [Dx-packages] [Bug 739184] Re: [Libreoffice] Mnemonics do not work in Unity
Closing as wontfix in "libreoffice (ubuntu)" as comment 84 shows this clearly needs to be fixed in indicator-appmenu and indicator-appmenu only. ** Changed in: libreoffice (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Won't Fix -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to indicator-appmenu in Ubuntu. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1085169] Re: LibreOffice Menus Stop Working even with libreoffice>=1:3.6.2~rc2-0ubuntu4 and indicator-appmenu>=12.10.3-0ubuntu2.1
Closing this as invalid in indicator-appmenu as the fix in LibreOffice seems to have solved all remaining issues. ** Changed in: indicator-appmenu (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to indicator-appmenu in Ubuntu. That is, the menu is showing at the top of the screen, and you can select a menu item, however nothing happens. Once the behaviour starts, none of the menu items work, including File Exit. The only way to get the menus to work again, is to quit LibreOffice and restart the program. This has been reported in Writer and Calc so far. This happens regardless of the video driver, and on 32 or 64 bits. This is with libreoffice version >= 1:3.6.2~rc2-0ubuntu4 and indicator-appmenu 12.10.3-0ubuntu2.1 (currently in quantal-proposed) ONLY. If you do not have these installed, you are hitting bug 1064962 or bug 1075263 resp..
