Title:
Firefox pop-up window gets under upper panel and window buttons cannot
  be accessed

Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Steps to reproduce:

  1) Open A Firefox page that has a link that open a pop-up window
  2) Click on the pop-up window

  What should happen?
Window upper part should be accessible (close/max/min buttons and so on).

  What happens?
The upper part of the window opens below the upper panel and the window is
not maximized, the window cannot be managed before moving it down.

I attach a video with the issue. This is a setup with two screens, it
happens in both screens (when the pop-up opens in the second screen
after clicking a pop-up link in the main screen it also gets under the
  Unity upper panel).

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1317741] [NEW] Hibernate option disappears when switching to another user

2014-05-08 Thread Benjamin Xiao
Public bug reported:

The Hibernate option disappears when switching to another user. The
first user who logs onto the system will get the Hibernate menu entry in
their Power menu. Any other user who logs on afterwards by switching
users does not see the Hibernate option in their Power menu.

I have obviously already enabled Hibernation by editing the relevant
polkit file as per https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-
docs/+bug/1232814/comments/13

Not sure if this is a regression from 13.10 as I do not have any 13.10
machines left to confirm.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1272686] Re: indicator-bluetooth-service crashed with SIGSEGV in org_bluez_adapter_set_property()

2014-05-08 Thread Robert Ancell
This is a bug in src/bluez.vala try_set_discoverable().

default_adapter can be null because it's not set when the Bluez object
is created or it might have disappeared. I'm not sure what the code is
supposed to do in this case, just ignore the try_set_discoverable()
call?

I think try_set_enabled() will also have the same problem.

"multi-arch" package. This should (or so I've been told) be reflected
in the meta information of the "overlay-scrollbar" package but isn't,
which is why the former package fails to install.

As a more competent person than I put it:

  "The overlay-scrollbar package does not come in i386 or amd64 flavors;
it comes as an "all" flavor, which installs on all archs.

It appears to be missing the Multi-Arch: allowed header so it won't
satisfy an i386 package depending on it. You should file a bug report
asking that the missing header be added."

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1317696] [NEW] Upstream dconf db settings for Ibus do not work correctly with Ubuntu

2014-05-08 Thread Eric Chaskes
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu has changed how it handles input switching and no longer relies
on the Ibus hotkey/trigger settings. The default upstream Ibus
keybindings for input switching, however, are still installed unchanged
in Ubuntu.

As a result, Control+Space, the default Ibus keybinding for input
swithing, is needlessly set in the dconf db. This keybinding overrides
Control+Space in other applications, notably Emacs and Eclipse auto-
complete.

The default dconf db settings for Ibus are loaded by
/etc/dconf/db/ibus/00-upstream-settings. The default settings in
question are:

trigger=['Control+space', 'Zenkaku_Hankaku', 'Alt+Kanji', 'Alt+grave',
'Hangul', 'Alt+Release+Alt_R']
triggers=['space']

It's hard for most users to figure this out and the problem could be
easily avoided by changing the default settings supplied from upstream.

This applies to 12.04, 13.10, 14.04.

Bug description:
Ubuntu GNOME would like to transition for gnome-settings-daemon/gnome-
control-center 3.10. This however requires a transition to gnome-
desktop 3-10. I have been working on this for quite some time however
this work was essentially blocked waiting on the unity- forks for
settings daemon and control center. These were only finalised the day
  before feature freeze.

Right now there are quite a few features that are not available for
configuration in g-c-c given it is so old. We are also hitting some
odd bugs with mutter using its own display config separate to what
  gnome-settings-daemon is doing with xrandr.

For GNOME 3.10, all the display configuration/xrandr code has been
moved into Mutter as dbus interface. The Main reason for this move was
to abstract away the display server (x11/wayland). Apart from these
changes there were no significant changes in the API.

This affects gnome-desktop3 and gnome-settings-daemon. In particular
the changes in gnome-desktop would create a gigantic mess if we tried
to revert these changes for Unity only. As such have forked the
display config code from mutter and ported *-settings-daemon and
*-control-center to the new api. The code itself is fairly self
contained, so apart from the resulting duplication of code, it
shouldnt really be much of an issue.

We have tested this via a ppa, however it was hard to get extensive
testing, due to the amount of archive churn in the affected packages.
I am pretty confident there are no much regressions and I will commit
to fixing any issues to do appear.

  Essentially this transition will involve:
new displayconfig package: This is the relevant code forked from mutter
3.10.4 (with a couple of fixes from 3.11 backported), wrapped up in a daemon.
This gets autostarted when required by g/u-s-d (although dbus activation may be
broken in flashback session)
my upstream branch is at https://github.com/darkxst/displayconfig (I had
trouble working out how to import a git branch into bzr, but I imagine it
should live in bzr once approved)

gnome/unity-settings-daemon, have backported patches to adapt to the new API.
  Likewise for gnome/unity-control-center.
All other rdepends just require a no-change rebuild to adapt to the new
soname.

Assuming this gets a approved, subsequent FFe's for gnome-settings-
daemon and gnome-control-center 3.10 will follow.

Bug description:
New keyboard layout changer in Ubuntu 13.10 introduce old-new bug. Any
system or application hotkey witch use char (for example: ctrl+alt+t for
terminal or ctrl+t for new tab in browser) become unfunctional when selected
non-latin keyboard layout.
Hotkeys with F1-12, numbers and other non-character buttons works perfectly.

Window manager hotkeys not affected by this bug. All hotkeys in system
parameters->keyboard->hotkeys->windows works perfect with any keyboard
  layout.

Workaround for some system hotkeys and two layouts (english and non-
latin): rebind all hotkeys in your local layout. For example instead
of ctrl+alt+t use ctrl+alt+τ (greek tau). That hotkey still work with
english layout. If you use english and two different non-latin
layouts this workaround helps only with one of them.

  Dear Ubuntu users and developers!
Please include the following information to your comment about non-latin
shortcuts problems:
  1. What Ubuntu version do you have (Ubuntu 13.10, Ubuntu 13.10 GNOME, Ubuntu
14.04, Ubuntu 14.04 GNOME and so on), upgraded (describe version) or clean
installed
  2. What keyboard layout do you have
  3. What shortcut for keyboard layout switching do you use
  4. On which session you have problems - that is one from Unity, GNOME Shell,
GNOME FlashBack/Fallback (Metacity), GNOME FlashBack/Fallback (Compiz)
  5. With which program and its version and origin (Ubuntu repositories, PPA,
non-deb binary package from some website) you have problems.

By providing this information you can make bug-fixing much simpler and
  may be faster.

  --
For other layout switching problems introduced in Ubuntu 13.10 you can see
bug 1218322.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1317558] [NEW] glutCreateWindow replaces terminal titlebar with random content from memory

2014-05-08 Thread Markus Ilmola
Public bug reported:

1. Open gnome-terminal (works with xterm and nautilus too)

2. Install freeglut3-dev package:

sudo apt-get install freeglut3-dev

3. Copy these lines to a file called test.c

#include
int main(int argc, char *argv[]) {
glutInit(&argc, argv);
glutInitDisplayMode(GLUT_RGB | GLUT_DOUBLE |GLUT_DEPTH);
glutCreateWindow("test");
return 0;
}

4. Compile test.c

gcc test.c -o test -lglut

5. Run the the compiled program

./test

6. Observe the terminal titlebar as it appears corrupted.

It seems the content of the titlebar is replaced with "random" content
from the memory.

With enough tries, this makes it even possible to view the contents of
bitmaps open in other programs in the titlebar.

ps.
This bug seem to be hardware specific as my other laptop which has an ATI video
card does not suffer from this bug.

Bug description:
When dragging a file/folder/shortcut and going over the launcher (as in
trying to drop it there) the launcher shows, then hides and then doesn't fully

After this, only about 80% of the launcher is shown every time it is
activated, with the left most 20% not showing (auto-hide enabled).
Also, when opening Lenses, there is a gap the size of the missing part of the

The only way to work around it is by restarting unity (or lightdm or the

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1315434] Re: Mouse with no time remaining estimate showing in preference to battery being charged

2014-05-08 Thread maxwellcom
@mpt

While I would disagree that "making it configurable obviously wouldn't
'satisfy all user needs'," the objections that follow in your post are
nonetheless all reasonable concerns - and I can appreciate the desire to
focus on fixing the bug.

One last plead: the preference to always display laptop battery data on
a laptop isn't esoteric. What about a gsettings/dconf option to set
"always display laptop battery in power indicator?" The "default"
behavior could otherwise simply be the current spec. Would that allow a
config while avoiding the UI setbacks and minimizing the code base
impact? Those sorts of tweaks are routinely disseminated among the
Ubuntu user base.

In any case, thank you for working on the power display and all the
little details that are part of Unity's refinement.

Title:
Mouse with no time remaining estimate showing in preference to battery
  being charged

Status in “indicator-power” package in Ubuntu:
  In Progress

Bug description:
When my laptop battery is in a charging state, but is not fully
charged, I expect it to be displayed in preference to my mouse, which
  has no time remaining estimate.

  The spec here:

  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Power

  says:

"If anything is discharging, the menu title should represent the
component (not battery, but component) that is estimated to lose power
first. For example, if your notebook battery is estimated to discharge
in 1 hour 47 minutes, and your wireless mouse battery is estimated to
discharge in 27 minutes, the menu title should represent the mouse. "

but there doesn't seem to be any guideline to what happens when a
  battery is being charged.

I suggest the time remaining to charge a battery should be displayed
in preference to the power level in a wireless mouse.

For other layout switching problems introduced in Ubuntu 13.10 you can see
bug 1218322.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 741869] Re: Unity/compiz intercepts Super and Alt keypresses from grabbed windows like VMs.

2014-05-08 Thread Alan Bell
** Description changed:

  [Impact]
After upgrading from Maverick to Natty, I can no longer use the Super
(windows) key in Virtual Machine Manager. Previously, as long as I had the
Virtual Machine Manager console window in the foreground, I could press the
Super key and the start menu would pop up. Since upgrading to Natty, this no
longer works, and the search box appears in the upper left.

  Also see bug #934921

  [Test Case]
  (1) Install virt-manager and qemu-system, create and boot a virtual machine
  (2) while in the virtual machine, press the Super key
Expected Result: the super key acts inside the VM
Actual Result: the super key acts in the host and the Unity Dash is displayed

  [regression Potential]
- This patch plays with ket grabs and ungrabs: the most likely potential for
regression is (a) the existing grabs continue and no fix obtains or (2) the
grab is not resumed when returning control from the VM and the Super key does
nto invoke the Unity Dash.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1196059] Re: Unsupported date format

2014-05-08 Thread Richard Dawe
I found that this did not work, even with the fixed package, like the
commenter in comment #7. I did manage to get it working:

I noticed that my LANGUAGE environment variable had "en" in it twice,
e.g.: LANAGUAGE="enen". I thought that was a bit odd. This was
only present when I logged in via the GUI -- it was not present if I
logged in on a virtual terminal (Ctrl+Alt+F1 then log in).

In the System Settings -> Language Support, I noticed that "English" was
the highest priority language in the Language tab, but Regional Formats
tab had "English (United Kingdom)". I put "English (United Kingdom)" at
the top of the list in the Languages tab, click Apply System Wide. This
seemed to resolve it for me.

I think something odd happens when you have a different primary locale
for the Language and Regional Settings tab.

Once I made those changes, I could set the date & time indicator to
include the day of the week, date and month without any errors. That did
not work before.
