[Dx-packages] [Bug 1083084] Re: add option for alt-tab window grouping disable

2014-06-02 Thread david fung
Alt-tab window grouping is a real productivity killer to a keyboard-
oriented programmer. I frequently switch between a small number of
windows while writing code. Unfortunately those few windows often
belong to different apps which have multiple windows opened.

Adding an option to disable it will be really nice. Everybody wins.

Good day, thank you for your wonderful work on Unity, I find it very usable.
The only thing that bothers me is the window grouping, as described here:
  http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1826736

  quote:
MY Question is if its possible to disable the "Grouping" part... such as
having multiple nautilus windows.
Primarily thunderbird is the largest annoyance.. if im writing an email on my
laptop and accedentally (touchpad 'palming') off the 'compose message' window;
by default and second nature, my brain tells my fingers to alt-tab back into
it. unfortunately, this DOES NOT WORK!

Basically, I am trying to restore Alt+Tab functionality from Unity 2D. I
tried number of other switchers, all have their separate issues. For example,
Static Application Switcher does not show minimalized windows (or windows
hidden by the "show desktop" shortcut), etc.
  Thanks :)

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1226962] Re: Hotkeys not functional in non-latin keyboard layout in 13.10 and 14.04

2014-06-02 Thread Nazar Mokrynskyi
Awesome news! I found fix for this.
1) Disable of gnome control over keyboard:
gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.keyboard active false
2) Set desired settings for xkb:
setxkbmap -option grp:rctrl_toggle,lv3:menu_switch us,ru,ua
You can add this to autostart
Here I switch layout with Right Control, Menu key is used for third level of
keys and I use three layouts: English, Russian and Ukrainian.

One notice: keyboard indicator on panel lives in parallel reality in
such setup, so I'm using gXneur to indicate current layout (only this,
and disabled input monitoring, looks like gXneur is broken in Ubuntu
13.10-14.04 with GNOME and Unity) and disabled original one in keyboard
settings.

As the result - I have all possible shortcuts working on any layout,
switching layout with one key - right ctrl (not possible otherwise in
GNOME) and separate layouts per windows and keyboard indicator with
gXneur.

Yes, such ugly but perfectly working hacks because of "smart" decisions
of GNOME developers.

New keyboard layout changer in Ubuntu 13.10 introduce old-new bug. Any
system or application hotkey witch use char (for example: ctrl+alt+t for
terminal or ctrl+t for new tab in browser) become unfunctional when selected
non-latin keyboard layout.
Hotkeys with F1-12, numbers and other non-character buttons works perfectly.

Window manager hotkeys not affected by this bug. All hotkeys in system

Workaround for some system hotkeys and two layouts (english and non-

of ctrl+alt+t use ctrl+alt+τ (greek tau). That hotkey still work with
english layout. If you use english and two different non-latin

  Dear Ubuntu users and developers!
Please include the following information to your comment about non-latin

  1. What Ubuntu version do you have (Ubuntu 13.10, Ubuntu 13.10 GNOME, Ubuntu
14.04, Ubuntu 14.04 GNOME and so on), upgraded (describe version) or clean
installed
  2. What keyboard layout do you have
  3. What shortcut for keyboard layout switching do you use
  4. On which session you have problems - that is one from Unity, GNOME Shell,
GNOME FlashBack/Fallback (Metacity), GNOME FlashBack/Fallback (Compiz)
  5. With which program and its version and origin (Ubuntu repositories, PPA,

2014-06-02 Thread Nazar Mokrynskyi
As I see here - bug is going to be fixed for every separate application which
is completely wrong approach.
THIS IS THE MOST CRITICAL BUG since 13.10, and should be fixed for all apps in
one place.
Users do not care how it works internally, we only know that regular Ctrl+C do
not work with any non-latin layout.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1310316] Re: Text scaling factor changing unexpectedly

2014-06-02 Thread Casper Bruun
I too expereince system fonts suddenly being displayed at a much lower
scaling factor than the 0,9 I have set.

I suspect that this could have happen when I take the laptop in and out
of its docking station changing between the laptop screen and a monitor
with a higher resolution.

Also I observe strange behaviour when I try to reset the scaling factor
in gnome-tweak-tool. Usually the scale factor have been set to something
like 0.5. Using the plus button to increase the scale factor I observe
that the value I set is immediately reduced back to the smaller value
without my intervention.

make the UI looks good on my screen. That works very well. But
sometimes, usually after logging, all the fonts of the UI become much
  bigger.

When that happen I open unity tweat tool and notice that the text
scaling factor changed to 2.25. If I reset it to 1 the all the fonts
  go back to normal.

The problem does not happen all the time. I would say it happen one

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1272448] Re: December 2013 updates to 12.04 LTS cause multiple problems

2014-06-02 Thread octalman
Re: Thunderbird -- serious issue

The bogus directory is Trash>>[Gmail]>Drafts. When the main mail
display is dismissed, Thunderbird continues to attempt to save a draft
of any new message. It is then no longer possible to edit the message
being prepared and it is no longer possible to access the main mail
displays, though it is possible to prepare another new message.

Autoclick -- issue appears to be resolved.

Keyboard response -- now better, but overall system performance has
been seriously downgraded by the most recent updates.

Wild cursor -- this has been a serious productivity issue for six years.
It needs attention on a high priority basis.

Title:
December 2013 updates to 12.04 LTS cause multiple problems

Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
December 2013 and January 2014 updates have caused numerous usability
problems. Some disappear, then reappear. All the following are
  current.

  1. Firefox and Thunderbird no longer find internet connection when
connected wirelessly. System reports wireless connection is
established and working, but neither FF nor TB cab find it. Wired
connection works OK. This problem first appeared in early December
and has continued to date (January 24, 2014).

  2. Booting HP Pavilion dv6 laptop fails when external power is
connected. Boots OK on battery alone. Bug reported. Problem
  appeared after January 1, 2014.

  3. Firefox loses tab history -- it's still there, but inaccessable
  unless I reboot. Long-standing issue.

  4. Right-click no longer works in Firefox. Can't copy or cut-and-
  paste.

  5. After running for more than a few hours, Firefox window frames
become transparent and Firefox no longer works.

  6. When using LibreOffice, screen updates cause brief, but very
annoying, display flashing or blanking. Blanking is sometimes
extended up to ten seconds. (AMD A-8 quad-core processor with 6 GB
  main memory!). Very alarming.

  7. Lost ability to scroll, etc. using "gestures" shortly after
  January 1, 2014.

  8. Unity magically appearing/disappearing scroll tabs replaced
Gnome's hard scrollbars. That's not nice. I don't like them.

  9. Firefox never, ever restores automagically (though it always did
in 10.04 LTS and does on Linux Mint). This issue has been outstanding
for two years, or more. No biggie, but it's annoying and very
unprofessional. Two bugs reported on this vs. Oneric! C'mon, people.
Surely you can do better than that.

This system is single-boot Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Gnome 3/Unity on an ext4
filesystem, installed about August 6, 2012 and kept up to date.

What happened to the concept that 12.04 was to be a "stable" release?
This is the most unstable *n*x OS release I have ever used since 1999
  (SuSE 5 through 8, Ubuntu 8.04, 10.04, Mint 13 and 14). This nonsense
makes Microsoft Windows almost seem desirable. I also use Linux Mint
14 on other "boxes", an HP Pavilion dv7 and a Dell Optiplex GX620.
None of these issues affect Mint 14, although it is based on Ubuntu
12.04 LTS (Mint 14 has its own issues, but none affect usability like
  these do). Unity sucks stumpwater.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1257327] Re: 10de:06fd [Dell Precision T5500] Ubuntu 13.10 dual monitor screen lock causes windows to disappear off-screen

2014-06-02 Thread Chris Plummer
Well, what do you know - I enabled workspaces in a 2x2 configuration,
then locked the screen, turned off both monitors, turned them back on,
and the two windows I had in the right-hand monitor disappeared. When I
clicked the launcher icon for them, they immediately showed up in the
workspace in the upper-right hand corner of the grid.

I just did it a second time, and it happened again - I think you must be
right that it's the turning off of the monitors that's causing it now.
It seems like I have a pretty reproducible test case, so maybe I could
find time to try your package this week before I'm unavailable again for
a while. Also in case it helps, I believe that just locking the screen
back in 13.10 would set it off - I don't think I had to turn off the
monitors.

I'm thinking the reason that I haven't run into this consistently in
14.04 is that I haven't been leaving a lot of windows open when I go
home and turn off the monitors; I think that I've just been closing most
of them before leaving.

10de:06fd [Dell Precision T5500] Ubuntu 13.10 dual monitor screen lock
  causes windows to disappear off-screen

Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
I have a dual monitor set up with a Dell T5500 and an Nvidia Quadro
NVS 295 graphics card. I lock the screen with a window open on the
second monitor, then unlock it again. When the desktop shows again,
the windows that were on the second screen are gone offscreen. I
expected them to still be on the second screen - I can workaround this
by using Alt+Spacebar to move the window back. This happens every
time I lock the screen, and it happens if I use the Nouveau driver or
if I use the proprietary driver. I expected the windows on the second
screen to stay on the screen after unlocking the system. Instead, the
windows disappeared off-screen - the Unity launcher still shows them
being open, plus if I have multiple windows of an application open
(i.e. the terminal), then double click the launcher icon, then it
shows me all the windows and lets me choose one to bring forward, even
the ones offscreen. When I pick the offscreen one to bring forward,
its icon just shoots offscreen again.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1313597] Re: Shortcut overlay cannot be closed by clicking the close button in 14.04

2014-06-02 Thread Ro
Please reconsider adding a higher priority to this bug. The shortcut
overlay is the very first thing users will see on their new ubuntu
desktop. Having this broken or not super-polished leaves a very bad
first impression ("if not even this works, what can I expect from the
rest of the system?").

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1257327] Re: 10de:06fd [Dell Precision T5500] Ubuntu 13.10 dual monitor screen lock causes windows to disappear off-screen

2014-06-02 Thread Chris Plummer
1. I'm using just a single workspace, I believe - I've never enabled
workspaces, so I'm guessing it's disabled by default? I'll see if I can
turn it on if it's off and set up additional workspaces.

2. None of them are maximized. I usually have Eclipse maximized in the
left-hand monitor and some terminals and source-control UIs open in my
right-hand monitor.

3. It is a dual monitor desktop system.

Like I said, it doesn't reproduce much anymore, but if it happens again
with the workspaces enabled, I'll report any findings to you. I don't
have time to install your compiz package right now - I'm actually in the
midst of some family transition time and probably won't be able to get
back to you for the next month. If you think of any questions or things
you want me to try, just let me know and when I'm back in the office
I'll try to answer at the beginning of July.

Thanks for helping!

   * expected behaviour: e.g. "Insert Bookmark" is enabled
   * actual behavious: "Insert Bookmark" is disabled

  [Regression Potential]

   * limited:
 - patch has been released to the LibreOffice PPA for a while without
   any negative feedback
 - changes limited to vcl (mostly gtk backend) and framework (trivial)

  [Other Info]

   * original report:

After adding a formula, OLE-Object or diagram to the document and then
exiting the editing mode, one cannot choose several items from the
menubar, neither using a mouse or the HUD. The affected items are
greyed out and mostly in the "Add" and "Format" dropdown menu. After
first navigating to that item with the mouse pointer, the second time
  the items become available.

After deinstalling the indicator-appmenu package, the Libreoffice menu works
without problems.

Bug description:
  Problem:
If user receives an SMS/call, snap decision for incoming SMS/call stays on
screen for always only 60sec. and then disappears from screen (by default).
There was no interaction from user.

  Possible solution:
The snap decision should stay on screen for the amount of time the app asks
it to, being always app dependant.
A 60sec. time-out is too short due to use cases where an action from user is
mandatory.

Use case example: A class 1/2 SMS arrives after user triggered a USSD
command from dialer. These type of SMS always requires a response from
user (CANCEL or a further COMMAND). Thus a timeout of only 60 sec is
too short because it can be missed and these type of SMS is NOT saved
  into the usual messages thread.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1295267] Re: Windows change Monitor/Desktop after screen lock

2014-06-02 Thread Chris Burrell
Interestingly, this has started occurring again.

My system was fine on friday, but over the weekend my work desk was
replaced - the crew doing the job put my monitors on in the wrong order,
and since then, the issue has been happening again.

I nearly always have multiple applications open in multiple windows
across both monitors and all virtual desktops.

When I lock the screen and then unlock, my application windows will
  move from their original position.

  Sometimes they are in completely random positions;

Other times they seem to get the monitors confused, and rather than
being in the top half of the portrait monitor they are on the top half
  of the landscape monitor;

Sometimes it is only a new desktop, but the monitor position is the
  same;

Sometimes it is the same desktop, but on the other monitor.

  Description: Ubuntu 13.10
  Release: 13.10

What I expect to happen: When I unlock my computer, all the windows
are in the same position on the same monitor and desktop as I left
  them.

What actually happens: When I unlock my computer, some or all of the
windows have been changed to a random position on a random monitor
  and/or desktop.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1311316] Re: After locking screen there is no input field to type password for unlock

2014-06-02 Thread Vojtěch Látal
I'm also affected. It was not acceptable for me to loose my work, so I was
looking for workaround. And I have found it:
What I did:
0) Switch to VT1 using Ctrl + Alt + F1, logged in
1) killall light-locker
2) killall gnome-screensaver
3) killall /usr/lib/unity/unity-panel-service
4) /usr/lib/unity/unity-panel-service --inhibit logout
5) unity --replace

I think number five (number 0 prepended) solves the problem, but in
order to be sure, I have added another tries.

Bug description:
  [Impact]
The panel should have a print indicator as long as there are any print jobs
queued or processed. Currently, this indicator never appears, even though
printing works fine.

This is because the service that listens to CUPS fails to register its
D-Bus name (as of revision 68), which results in the panel component
not finding the service. The attached branch fixes this by making the
service register the name the panel expects.

  [Test Case]
Print a document from any application and check whether the print indicator
appears while it is printing.

  [Regression Potential]
Almost none. The print indicator is not working at all right now, and the fix
only touches that indicator.

  [Original Description]
even after lates updates still no printer notifications in the panel . I
checked and the package "indicator-printers" is correctly installed and the
printer prints without problems. But, there is no notification icons on unity
panel. I had no problems at all with 13.10 instead

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1286230] Re: 14e4:1713 [HP Compaq 6715s Notebook PC] Ethernet connection does not reactivate following Resume from Sleep

2014-06-02 Thread Nicholas McCurdy
14.04 upgrade process appears to have halted this behavior. I will
continue testing. If no further recurrence I will subsequently vote to
close this Bug as Resolved in Later Version.

Previously-applied "fixes" have been removed and no negative results
surface during wake-from-sleep.

I will confirm in 10 days that the Bug has been sufficiently resolved.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1324068] Re: Brightness slider becomes ineffective with auto brightness turned on

2014-06-02 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1314678 ***

The slider in System Settings itself has exactly the same problem, so
removing the one from the indicator menu won't fix the underlying bug.

  4. drag down the battery indicator from the top
  5. try to change the brightness

  What happens:
The slider moves but the brightness remains the same

  What should happen:
probably the slider should be greyed out and not movable with the mention
that auto brightness is on and needs to be turned off.

Personally I think we are really showing too many indicators in the OS
