[Dx-packages] [Bug 1203718] Re: hud-service is consuming too much recources
I am running Ubuntu 14.04. hud-service is using more and more resources as time passes. The computer has been idling for about an hour and memory usage is up to 1.7 GiB and CPU usage is at 12%. By idling I actually mean that I had VirtualBox with one VM running but I was away from the computer and memory usage continued to climb. The problem doesn't seem to be related to other applications running, as stated by others. I was alerted to the problem yesterday after using the machine all day and troubleshooting a different issue. After several hours of use, memory useage by hud-service was at 3.9 GiB. [Dx-packages] [Bug 683170] Re: should be possible to display only windows from the current workspace in the launcher
"except when the deep pockets doesn't agree" This is open source, if I really wanted to invest my time to change it I could dedicate some of MY time to change it and fork Unity. I only want this to be readdressed since the last time this issue was brought up it was back in 2010, and this bug is still here. I just believe it warrants another look by the design team. This feature is not difficult to implement, but may not look nice with Unity's Task bar on the left, since windows on other work-spaces would have to have some intelligent way of interacting with the 'pinned' applications and open applications. I would suggest that Unity's task panel could have two different settings: One where it ignore open windows on other work-spaces, 'pinned' apps remaining 'pinned' and unopened (clicking on a pin in this case only opening a window in the current work-space and ignoring open apps for switching on other work-spaces) (This may require optionally including new 'tab switching' behavior to ignore windows on other work-spaces as well, where it may not already be supported). This should not be the default behavior and should only be implemented on PC's and work stations as that is the only atmosphere where these settings would be useful. Two where'pinned' applications and opened ones behave by showing windows on all work-spaces, exactly the way unity handles work-spaces now. This should be the default behavior since Unity is moving towards the Cell Phone/Tablet/All-in-One concept, and this behavior is preferable on smaller screens where work-spaces will be less useful as PC 'work horses'. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1328561] [NEW] Unity Launcher doesn't hide after coming out of lock-screen
Public bug reported: Folks, I have set my Unity Launcher to auto hide from the System Settings > Appearance > Behavior tab. This works perfectly fine, until I lock the screen and come back to unlock it. After unlocking the screen, the Unity Launcher will no longer auto hide. The current workaround is to hold the Super key until the Keyboard Shortcuts helper pops up, and then let go of it. This resumes auto hide. Needless to say, locking the screen should not disable auto hide, but should return the functionality that I had before locking the screen. As a side effect of auto hide not working after unlocking the screen, maximised windows do not line up with the Unity Launcher and the window controls on the top left are partially covered. So even though auto hide doesn't work and the Launcher stays visible, the borders are not recognized the same as when auto hide would be turned off in the System Settings. Matching subscriptions: dx-packages https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1297978 Title: Drag-to-maximize animation shows incorrect preview Status in Compiz: New Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: In Ubuntu 14.04, drag-to-maximize shows an incorrect preview animation when dragging a window to the top bar or the sides. The preview animation consists of the window pixmap scaled to the preview outline size, disregarding aspect ratio. The preview pixmap disappears after the animation. It looks really broken, confusing and glitchy. Earlier Unity versions used a related effect, but with nearly completely transparent windows pixmap rendering, and fadeout of the pixmap over the animation duration, which was mostly okay. It looks like the translucent fading is broken, at the very least. IMHO scaling the window pixmap this way is not useful at all, though, because it isn't a proper preview of the window after scaling. It might be useful to discuss this elsewhere. For the moment, Unity should simply behave like it previously did in Ubuntu 13.10. There was no interaction from user. Possible solution: The snap decision should stay on screen for the amount of time the app asks it to, being always app dependant. A 60sec. time-out is too short due to use cases where an action from user is mandatory. Use case example: A class 1/2 SMS arrives after user triggered a USSD command from dialer. These type of SMS always requires a response from user (CANCEL or a further COMMAND). Thus a timeout of only 60 sec is too short because it can be missed and these type of SMS is NOT saved into the usual messages thread. I was able to disable the "Switch User" functionality in the indicator menu by setting "com.canonical.indicator.session user-show-menu false" in gsettings, but the lockscreen mode of unity-panel-service does not respect this. gnome-screensaver provided a way to do this (org.gnome.desktop.lockdown disable-user-switching true), so this is a major regression for anyone attempting to use Ubuntu in a public computing environment. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1272448] Re: December 2013 updates to 12.04 LTS cause multiple problems
June 10 update restores keyboard and cursor response. Thank you. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. Matching subscriptions: dx-packages https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1272448 Title: December 2013 updates to 12.04 LTS cause multiple problems Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: December 2013 and January 2014 updates have caused numerous usability problems. Some disappear, then reappear. All the following are current. 1. Firefox and Thunderbird no longer find internet connection when connected wirelessly. System reports wireless connection is established and working, but neither FF nor TB cab find it. Wired connection works OK. This problem first appeared in early December and has continued to date (January 24, 2014). 2. Booting HP Pavilion dv6 laptop fails when external power is connected. Boots OK on battery alone. Bug reported. Problem appeared after January 1, 2014. 3. Firefox loses tab history -- it's still there, but inaccessable unless I reboot. Long-standing issue. 4. Right-click no longer works in Firefox. Can't copy or cut-and- paste. 5. After running for more than a few hours, Firefox window frames become transparent and Firefox no longer works. 6. When using LibreOffice, screen updates cause brief, but very annoying, display flashing or blanking. Blanking is sometimes extended up to ten seconds. (AMD A-8 quad-core processor with 6 GB main memory!). Very alarming. 7. Lost ability to scroll, etc. using "gestures" shortly after January 1, 2014. 8. Unity magically appearing/disappearing scroll tabs replaced Gnome's hard scrollbars. That's not nice. I don't like them. 9. Firefox never, ever restores automagically (though it always did in 10.04 LTS and does on Linux Mint). This issue has been outstanding for two years, or more. No biggie, but it's annoying and very unprofessional. Two bugs reported on this vs. Oneric! C'mon, people. Surely you can do better than that. This system is single-boot Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Gnome 3/Unity on an ext4 filesystem, installed about August 6, 2012 and kept up to date. What happened to the concept that 12.04 was to be a "stable" release? This is the most unstable *n*x OS release I have ever used since 1999 (SuSE 5 through 8, Ubuntu 8.04, 10.04, Mint 13 and 14). This nonsense makes Microsoft Windows almost seem desirable. I also use Linux Mint 14 on other "boxes", an HP Pavilion dv7 and a Dell Optiplex GX620. None of these issues affect Mint 14, although it is based on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Mint 14 has its own issues, but none affect usability like these do). Unity sucks stumpwater.
