[Dx-packages] [Bug 1010132] Re: Show copy dialog not working

2014-06-11 Thread Mohamed Danish
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 887821 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/887821

Still present in 14.10.
kil-ing nautilus and then opening a folder to copy helps, but this most
probably will kill the copy progress.

Bug description:
Battery icon does not reliably display correct values at low battery
  levels.

The icon works fine until you get below 30%. At 10-30% a small red
icon should be displayed, and another icon should be displayed at
<10%. Currently, the icon doesn't seem to change to anything smaller
  than the 40% icon.

I have sometimes seen the red 20% icon, but it's very unreliable, and
typically switches back to the 40% icon moments after resuming the
  phone.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 853865] Re: Multi Monitor: Option to hide unity's top panel on the second monitor

I use Ubuntu with Unity to project on a canon (a projector) but it's quite
annoying (and not so professional) to display the top bar.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1329048] Re: Shouldn't stop listing events until they are over

...actually, I can't think of a use case where you wouldn't want to know
the events that are currently in progress. Maybe in-progress events
shouldn't be constrained by the 5 limit?

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1329048] Re: Shouldn't stop listing events until they are over

2014-06-11 Thread Charles Kerr
Dropping off on the end time might not always be the Right Thing to do.
For example if you had multiple full-day events (holiday, + someone's
birthday, etc.) they could DOS the five slots pretty quickly.

One approach would be to keep the count separate from the full day
events..

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1315369] Re: Log in not available after lock screen with multi-monitor

I have a 4-monitor set up and idling out to the lock screen seems to
black screen freeze it about 25% of the time since 14.04 update. I'm
able to restart lightdm via SSH in order to bring the screen back, but I
still have to logout in order to get full access to all 4 monitors again

Thanks.

Could you please test with a different kernel? It would help us to
verify if there is already a patch for this issue available.

If possible test with our development branch drm-intel-nightly from
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/drm-intel/log/?h=drm-intel-nightly

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1298656] Re: hud-service crashed with g-assert-if-reached in GMenu call from qtgmenu::QtGMenuModel::CreateChild()

Status in “hud” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * Unknown GTK application causes HUD service to crash by sending
  invalid menu updates via GMenu.

  [Test Case]

   * Not reproducable so far.

  [Regression Potential]

   * Worst case is that somehow HUD doesn't work on the desktop and
  phone.

   * There are, obviously, extensive unit and functional tests to verify
  this doesn't happen.

  [Other Info]

   * The patch will report the offending application to
errors.ubuntu.com with all available debugging information.

   * The indexes are now range checked before processing. As soon as a
window sends any invalid message it is blocked.

   * Further hardening around the memory management in QtGMenu has been
  carried out.

  * The change is not as large as it at first appears. The majority of
the diff is simply replacing Type* with QSharedPointer. The rest
is the extra code for reporting the recoverable problem.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1298656] Re: hud-service crashed with g-assert-if-reached in GMenu call from qtgmenu::QtGMenuModel::CreateChild()

2014-06-11 Thread Colin Watson
Hello Jos, or anyone else affected,

Accepted hud into trusty-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at
http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/hud/14.04+14.04.20140604-0ubuntu1 in
a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag
from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the
bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help
us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

Bug description:
  [Impact]
The panel should have a print indicator as long as there are any print jobs
queued or processed. Currently, this indicator never appears, even though
printing works fine.

This is because the service that listens to CUPS fails to register its
D-Bus name (as of revision 68), which results in the panel component
not finding the service. The attached branch fixes this by making the
service register the name the panel expects.

  [Test Case]
Print a document from any application and check whether the print indicator
appears while it is printing.

  [Regression Potential]
Almost none. The print indicator is not working at all right now, and the fix
only touches that indicator.

  [Original Description]
even after lates updates still no printer notifications in the panel . I
checked and the package "indicator-printers" is correctly installed and the
printer prints without problems. But, there is no notification icons on unity
panel. I had no problems at all with 13.10 instead

gnome-screensaver just refuses to lock in this situation, perhaps

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1310200] Re: Indicators disappear at the panel (clementine, dropbox, skype etc)

2014-06-11 Thread Eduardo
I haven't been able to grasp a pattern as to when the Clementine
indicator disappears, for it can be any time in the middle of a song,
with no obvious relationship with a specific process.

I've been using Ubuntu desktop since April of 2007 (starting with
  version 7.04).

This is the oldest unfixed bug I know of.

When you have two monitors, if you maximize a youtube flash video on
one monitor, any action you perform on the other monitor minimizes the
  video.

It has always been impossible to watch a flash video full-screen on
one monitor while preforming tasks on a second monitor.

I reported this back in 2007, but couldn't find that bug report.

Anyway, it is 7 years later, and the bug still persists.

Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
As mentioned in the summary, the screen is not locked when the menus of the
indicators are open.
  Steps to reproduce:
  - set screen timeout to 1 minute — OR — set "no action" when closing the
laptop lid;
  - click on an indicator;
  - wait — OR (according to the first action) — close the laptop lid;
  - if the screen is off, move the mouse;
  - you can see open windows and you can issue some commands (I succesfully
opened a terminal using ctrl+alt+T);
  - if the indicator menu is closed, the screen is locked immediately after,
but it is just too late.

My system is up to date, so the right-click → alt+F2 trick doesn't
  work anymore, for me.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1328884] [NEW] Can't Sustain Full Screen Flash Video while using Multiple Monitors

2014-06-11 Thread Lonnie Lee Best
Public bug reported:

I've been using Ubuntu desktop since April of 2007 (starting with
version 7.04).

This is the oldest unfixed bug I know of.

When you have two monitors, if you maximize a youtube flash video on one
monitor, any action you perform on the other monitor minimizes the
video.

It has always been impossible to watch a flash video full-screen on one
monitor while preforming tasks on a second monitor.

I reported this back in 2007, but couldn't find that bug report.

Anyway, it is 7 years later, and the bug still persists.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1315369] Re: Log in not available after lock screen with multi-monitor

2014-06-11 Thread David Baucum
In my setup I have two monitor plugged into my laptop's base station.
The graphics card will not support three monitors, so I only have the
two external monitors activated. When I came in this morning the
computer did not auto-lock or turn off the monitors and all was fine.

@3v1n0: There are many steps, do you mean the kernel arguments at grub?
I will enter those the next time I reboot.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1295762] Re: snap decision timeout needs to be determined by the requesting app

2014-06-11 Thread Lars Uebernickel

I agree with that sentiment, but think it's the wrong trade-off with
regards to simplicity. We already have precedence for snap decisions
behaving differently when using the standard API (for example, snap
decisions must have at least one action and they're the only
notification type that can be cancelled). Did we see many bug reports
from confused developers for that?

UX requirements change all the time. Also, just because it's not common
doesn't mean we need to make it difficult.

I'll stop arguing about this though if you feel strongly about it. I
don't think we'll be using this API for much longer anyway.

  Problem:
If user receives an SMS/call, snap decision for incoming SMS/call stays on
screen for always only 60sec. and then disappears from screen (by default).
There was no interaction from user.

  Possible solution:
The snap decision should stay on screen for the amount of time the app asks
it to, being always app dependant.
A 60sec. time-out is too short due to use cases where an action from user is
mandatory.

Use case example: A class 1/2 SMS arrives after user triggered a USSD
command from dialer. These type of SMS always requires a response from
user (CANCEL or a further COMMAND). Thus a timeout of only 60 sec is
too short because it can be missed and these type of SMS is NOT saved
  into the usual messages thread.

Title:
Unity Launcher doesn't hide after coming out of lock-screen

Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Folks,

I have set my Unity Launcher to auto hide from the System Settings >
Appearance > Behavior tab. This works perfectly fine, until I lock the
screen and come back to unlock it.

After unlocking the screen, the Unity Launcher will no longer auto
hide. The current workaround is to hold the Super key until the
Keyboard Shortcuts helper pops up, and then let go of it. This resumes
  auto hide.

Needless to say, locking the screen should not disable auto hide, but
should return the functionality that I had before locking the screen.

As a side effect of auto hide not working after unlocking the screen,
maximised windows do not line up with the Unity Launcher and the
window controls on the top left are partially covered. So even though
auto hide doesn't work and the Launcher stays visible, the borders are
not recognized the same as when auto hide would be turned off in the
  System Settings.

Bug description:
I noticed that when I tried to open text files via the dash, gedit did
not take focus. I decided to check a few other applications, and while
libreoffice and evince both would take focus, eye of gnome had the
same issue gedit does. Both gedit and eye of gnome do, however, take
focus when the same files are access via nautilus.

Here is a video demonstrating the issue: http://youtu.be/8wuObjxofF0

In the video you'll notice that when I open the files for gedit and
eye of gnome via the dash, their windows do not take focus, noted by
the fact that the window border stays colorless, and the global menu
does not display the title of the window. You'll also notice that both
applications behave correctly when the files are accessed via
nautilus. Libreoffice is also shown, so that you can see it only
  effects certain applications.

Also, the video does not show it, but opening the applications via the
dash works as expected. In other words, if I launch gedit via the
dash, it takes focus, however, if I open a file, which will open in
gedit, it will not take focus.

  To reproduce:

Open a text file via the dash, either by searching and hitting
"enter," or by clicking a recently used file.

The hint "x-canonical-snap-decisions" is an indicating hint, e.g.
like the standard "body" hint, and used to point out that there are
certain rules enforced upon the use of actions, put forth by UX-design,
which deviate from the FDO-standard. Therefore I do not regard
"x-canonical-snap-decisions" as being unnecessary.

Furthermore hints are the designated means to introduce new features (or
different behaviour).

Being explicit rather than implicit avoids misunderstanding and
possible "false-positive" bug-reports due to that.

> Adding additional hints only increases the complexity of the API and makes it
> harder to switch between different kinds of notifications.
By design every introduced notification-type serves a very specific
purpose, that differs in behaviour, visuals and interaction. Thus
switching between different notification-types is not a common thing to
do for a developer, unless UX-requirements change later on.

I think that's unnecessary for the same reason I thought introducing hints for
snap decision actions was unnecessary. It's unlikely that developers have a
problem understanding that the timeout only applies to a specific kind of
notification. They already need to know about the different kinds of
notifications and what they can do with them.

Adding additional hints only increases the complexity of the API and makes it
harder to switch between different kinds of notifications.

We already go against the intention of that parameter by ignoring it
completely. In fact, we go against the freedesktop specification, which states
that notification servers need to honor this parameter.

Bug description:
  My monitor layout is:
   1. 1366x768+0+270
   2. 1680x1050+1366+0

notify-osd renders the volume/brightness notification overlapping the
panel on monitor 1. This doesn't happen when the top edge of monitor 1
touches the top of the virtual screen, i.e. 1366x768+0+0.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1315369] Re: Log in not available after lock screen with multi-monitor

2014-06-11 Thread Jane Silber
I've had to stop using my external monitor completely to avoid the
problem. I tried turning off screen locking and screen dimming to avoid
it, but that didn't help. The only thing I have found that leaves me in
a reliable working state is to not use the external monitor.

Bug description:
After the screen locks I am unable to log back in because the screen
with the login prompt is black, and the screen on my laptop just shows
  the Ubuntu logo.

Furthermore, if I then unplug the external monitor (in an attempt to
force the log in option to be displayed on the laptop) the laptop
screen then goes black and I can't do anything at all.

I can't reproduce this if I select "lock screen" from the UI, but it
happens reliably if it locks due to inactivity.

  Other info:
  - I am running a fresh install of 14.04
  - I have it set to lock after 5 min of inactivity, and require login after
lock
  - I have an external monitor, configured to be on the left side of the laptop
screen
