Time is not updated on the welcome screen until the next minute

Status in “indicator-datetime” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
I originally noticed this bug in flight mode, but I've seen it
happening without flight mode too. It seems the time on the welcome
screen is not updated instantly when the screen is on, but only the
next time a minute passes. I'm using image 172.

  Original description
I've noticed that time is updated neither on the welcome screen nor in the
indicator if Flight Mode is on and time and date is set up to update
automatically.

In this case, the time at the bottom of the Time and Date page in
u-s-s is still updated normally, but the indicator and the welcome
screen's time is frozen to the value when the Flight Mode was enabled.

A workaround for the time to update is to set the update mode to
Manually, but in any case, as a user, when I set Flight Mode on at the
flick of the switch, I wasn't expecting to have to open u-s-s for time
  to be kept.

Title:
unity lock screen provides no way to force-logout a user

Status in Unity:
  In Progress
Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  In Progress

Bug description:
Let me start by saying that I realize that unity's screen locker is
not the same thing as gnome-screensaver. That having been said, there
are major regressions in functionality with the advent of Trusty.
Virtually every site that uses Linux in any sort of public computing
areas makes use (or used to, at least) of gnome-screensaver's "logout-
delay" and "logout-enabled" functionality, which would, after the
screen had been locked for a pre-determined amount of time, present a
"Log Out" button that would end the user's session, optionally running
a custom command to do so. This is vital, lest people walk away from
their workstations, rendering them unusable by others until they are
  rebooted.

unity's lock screen mode provides no way to do this. Right up until
the final beta, it was possible to swap out unity's lockscreen mode
for gnome-screensaver, but that was removed as well. I wouldn't mind
if it was possible to configure the alternate use of a screensaver,
but Unity goes out of its way to ensure you can't do this. If there's
some magic way to do this, by adding an applet to the panel when in
lockscreen mode, or by invoking some D-Bus black magic, I'd be happy
  to hear about it.

But really, removing this level of functionality while simultaneously
preventing any workarounds, is a real problem.

  Steps to reproduce:
  1) Log in to a unity session.
  2) Lock the screen.
  3) Observe that org.gnome.desktop.screensaver gsettings keys are not honored.
  4) Examine the com.canonical.unity* schemas and observe there is no way to
enable this behavior.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1311316] Re: After locking screen there is no input field to type password for unlock

2014-08-14 Thread John Hoare
I am also having this issue. I attempted the "unity --replace"
workaround, and it appeared to kill my existing session.

I'd also like to note that I use VMWare workstation (my machine with the
problem is the host) and if I leave my cursor in my vmware window the
screensaver doesn't activate until I move my mouse out of VMware. This

I don't think this is a Unity bug at this time, but I'll leave it in the

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1354406] Re: PIN-locked phone becomes unresponsive after simultaneous alarms

2014-08-14 Thread Alan Pope ㋛
** Description changed:

  Steps to reproduce

  1. Run recent image (I'm on #178 on mako)
  2. Setup pin lock in system settings
  3. Enter two events for the same time, soon, in your google calendar
  4. Have your phone sync your google calendar using system settings -> accounts
  5. Lock screen
  6. Wait for the events

  What happens

  * Multiple alarms go off, notification on screen. You can hear two rings at
once (separate bug)
  * Tap notification to make it go away
  * Sound continues, but there's no notification on screen.

At this point you cannot unlock the phone. You can swipe away the
welcome screen, but the display dims a bit once you do, and nothing is
clickable - can't click numbers in pin unlock, can't swipe down
  indicators..

You have to reboot the phone to get past this.
+
+ I have further discovered that if your phone gets into this state you
+ can tap where you think the dismiss icon is for the notification (top
+ left of the screen) and you _can_ dismiss it, despite it not actually
+ being visible.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1352656] Re: ubuntu-app-launch-invalid-appid

2014-08-14 Thread Ted Gould
There's not much we can do here as we're given the AppID from the
application calling us. I'm going to mark it as wishlist as we could do
more validation of the AppID, but I really don't think we should *have*
to, it should be the caller's responsibility.

Just out of curiosity has anyone tried:

sudo apt-get install gnome-packagekit

as a work-around? When I get some time to play in a VM I'll do it
myself.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1172649] Re: Spotify icon is displayed twice in Unity Launcher

2014-08-14 Thread Fábio Maia
I don't think this bug happens randomly. I can reproduce the bug
predictably.

To reproduce the bug:

1. Open Spotify from the Unity launcher.
2. Exit Spotify.
3. Open Spotify again.

To avoid the bug:

1. Open Spotify from the Unity launcher.
2. Click Hide Spotify in the system tray icon (this may require a few tries
until it says Open Spotify).
3. Exit Spotify.
4. Open Spotify again.

The key is to click Hide Spotify first in the system tray icon.

Can anyone confirm?
