Title:
Window geometry is slightly off when opening maximized

Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
There is a slight problem with window geometry when they are opened
  miximied in Compiz.

It is as if the window was slightly (one pixel) rotated to the left.
Looking at the attached screen copy, you can see an orange line on the upper
right side of the screen, as well as the scrollbar missing some pixels on the
down right side of the screen.

Unmaximizing / remaximizing the window makes the problem disappear,
until the window is closed and reopened maximized. Then, the problem
  will show again.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1328646] Re: Clock out of sync on resume from suspend

2014-08-15 Thread Charles Kerr
Lastly, it looks like indicator-datetime is continuing to correctly
publish the updated time when the minute changes.

You can reproduce this test on an affected system by running this from
phablet-shell:

$ dbus-monitor "path=/com/canonical/indicator/datetime"

Expected results: when the minute changes, indicator-datetime should
publish new header information, formatted similar to comment:30 but with
the correct time in its header label.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1328646] Re: Clock out of sync on resume from suspend

2014-08-15 Thread Charles Kerr
I'm seeing this bug in image 191 and found something interesting: the
datetime service is still pushing the right information to the bus, but
for some reason the panel and greeter aren't seeing it.

You can ask the datetime service what time it thinks it is by calling
this from phablet shell:

$ dbus-send --print-reply --dest=com.canonical.indicator.datetime \
 "/com/canonical/indicator/datetime" "org.gtk.Actions.Describe"
string:"phone-header"

Which will give you something like:

> method return sender=:1.33 -> dest=:1.78 reply_serial=2
>   struct {
> boolean true
> signature ""
> array [
> variant array [
> dict entry(
> string "title"
> variant string "Upcoming"
> )
> dict entry(
> string "visible"
> variant boolean true
> )
> dict entry(
> string "label"
> variant string " 8:30 PM"
> )
> dict entry(
> string "accessible-desc"
> variant string " 8:30 PM"
> )
>]
> ]

The "label" here is updated at least every minute and should be updated
by the panel, but for some reason isn't.

The two screenshots above show this visually: the phone's panel and
greeter say it's 8:17 PM, but the system clock and indicatator-datetime
service say that it's 8:29 (screenshot 1) and 8:30 (screenshot 2). I
took the second to confirm that the service was still updating its label
each minute.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1357572] [NEW] dragging Firefox or Terminal windows to other workspace causes a hang

2014-08-15 Thread Ray Kiddy
Public bug reported:

I enabled workspaces and then I started to drag windows to a second
workspace.

First, I started dragging a few Terminal windows. I had no problem. Then
I dragged a Firefox window that was showing a pdf that I have local on
my system and the UI hanged. I had to to a hard reboot.

Then I restored my Firefox windows. Then I tried to do the same thing
again and it hung while dragging the same window. I had to to a hard
reboot.

Then I restored my Firefox windows. Then I had given up on that one
Firefox window, but, at this point, dragging he second Terminal window
across into the other workspace caused the UI to hang.

I have not seen visible errors other than the hang. I am somewhat new to
Linux, having been on Mac OS X for many years, so I do not know where
these things might be logged (if they are).

Let me know if I can do something to help diagnose this. I can run
something manually, in a debugger, or whatever.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1328646] Re: Clock out of sync on resume from suspend

2014-08-15 Thread Michał Sawicz
Here's the requested output:

http://paste.ubuntu.com/8057589/

What's weird... my indicator says 8:06 and the greeter 8:22 now... Both
over an hour out of sync.

After a greeter cycle the greeter came around to correct 9:45, panel
still off...

  * Add --lightdm= argument to ./run.sh that lets developers choose
which lightdm backend to use. Stop letting a user that is

that a user which was not prompted was successfully authenticated.
This is not a common situation, you'd have to manually change your

  * Make wrong-password handling much nicer by showing a pretty spinner

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1357524] [NEW] Crashes on Ruby exec

2014-08-15 Thread mcandre
Public bug reported:

While debugging an old Ruby script for determing the Internet connection
status (online vs offline), I found that running exec from Ruby would
crash Unity.

Steps to reproduce:

1. wget
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/mcandre/mcandre/95350df18b982f455d49eca739f2e1ee42da75f4/ruby/webshout.rb
2. emacs
3. M-x shell
4. ruby webshout.rb

In particular, it seems that the line:

exec 'say You are now online.'

(which I've since corrected to use system instead of exec)

Attempts to replace the ruby process for webshout.rb with a GNUStep say
process. But something messes up, and Unity crashes.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1355196] Re: compiz fails with intel_do_flush_locked failed: Invalid argument

2014-08-15 Thread Scott Moser
Chris seems to have correctly identified the issue.
I tried reverting the xserver-xorg-video-intel to previous versions, but it had
no affect.

I rebooted into an older kernel and i can still use compiz/unity.

 3.16.0-6-generic : works
 3.16.0-7-generic : fails
 3.16.0-8-generic: fails

** Summary changed:

- unity crashes on login, compiz cpu and memory intensive
+ compiz fails with intel_do_flush_locked failed: Invalid argument

** No longer affects: unity (Ubuntu)

PIN-locked phone becomes unresponsive after simultaneous alarms

Status in “indicator-datetime” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid
Status in “unity-notifications” package in Ubuntu:
  In Progress
Status in “unity8” package in Ubuntu:
  In Progress

Bug description:
  Steps to reproduce

  1. Run recent image (I'm on #178 on mako)
  2. Setup pin lock in system settings
  3. Enter two events for the same time, soon, in your google calendar
  4. Have your phone sync your google calendar using system settings -> accounts
  5. Lock screen
  6. Wait for the events

  What happens

  * Multiple alarms go off, notification on screen. You can hear two rings at
once (separate bug)
  * Tap notification to make it go away
  * Sound continues, but there's no notification on screen.

At this point you cannot unlock the phone. You can swipe away the
welcome screen, but the display dims a bit once you do, and nothing is
clickable - can't click numbers in pin unlock, can't swipe down
  indicators..

You have to reboot the phone to get past this.

I have further discovered that if your phone gets into this state you
can tap where you think the dismiss icon is for the notification (top
left of the screen) and you _can_ dismiss it, despite it not actually
  being visible.

Okay I've talked to mterry and he's confirmed that the greeter gets its
time and date from indicator-datetime. So this is good news of a sort,
it means the bug is probably only in datetime, rather than some larger
strangeness :)

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1328646] Re: Clock out of sync on resume from suspend

2014-08-15 Thread Charles Kerr
Where does the greeter get its time from?

Indicator-datetime ultimately gets its time from a call to
g_date_time_new_now_local() + the system timezone, and (unless there's a
bug) is updated at least once per minute. But several people here
(jibel, ogra, more) are reporting the clock being /far/ out of sync.

Could one of you please attach the output of this run from phablet-shell
next time you see the datetime clock dramatically out of sync?

$ dbus-send --print-reply --dest=com.canonical.indicator.datetime \

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1357311] Re: Datetime indicator no longer shows events

2014-08-15 Thread Charles Kerr
I'm not sure what's triggering this. It appears to not be an indicator-
datetime bug.

1. Nothing's changed in indicator-datetime for a week -- the last change
it landed was in image 180. Changes that landed in 189:
http://people.canonical.com/~ogra/touch-image-stats/189.changes

2. Indicator-datetime is stll advertising its time and menu on the bus.
This can be confirmed from the command line by running this in phablet-
shell:

$ dbus-send --print-reply --dest=com.canonical.indicator.datetime \

A transition is required as some features were removed and the SONAME
  was changed

  Some packages are staged in
  https://launchpad.net/~noskcaj/+archive/upower/+packages

wmbattery and sugar will probably need removing. If a package only
needs a rebuild, mark it fix commited, if something else is needed, in
  progress.

  cairo-dock-plug-ins: needs rebuilding
  gnome-applets - patch at bgo:730588
gnome-shell - ready, just need to drop upower revert.
  gnome-control-center: WIP
gnome-packagekit: Upower dropped from newest upstream release. Merge from
debian
gnome-power-manager: Fixed in newest upstream release. Merge from debian
experimental
gnome-session: Done in ppa, needs patches from git or new upstream release
gnome-settings-daemon: 3.12 is ready out of the box, however that also
requires gnome-desktop transition. 3.8 and also u-s-d: I have a package that is
mostly working, however had to cherry-pick quite a few patches and may just be
better to backport 3.12 power plugin. (considering g-s-d patches will be
temporary, but u-s-d not so)
kde: works fine with systemd, suspend broken with upstart
mate: all mate packages need rebuilding
  python-dbusmock: lp:1324791
sugar: Upstream bug now filed. Unlikely to be ready in time for 14.10. We
should remove this from the archive till the next upstream release
telepathy-mission-control-5: Debian has dropped upower support, needs merging
wmbattery: needs removal. orphaned upstream/debian and doesn't work with new
kernals
xfce4-power-manager: Fixed upstream. Merge at lp:1334185. Will need rebuilding
xfce4-session: patch is upstream, needs work to apply with our current
patchset
xfce4-settings: Patch from upstream in ppa
  xfce4-systemload-plugin: needs rebuild

Title:
  Compiler optimization error needs investigation

Status in “accountsservice” package in Ubuntu:
  New
Status in “gcc-4.9” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
This is a breakaway bug from bug 1351308.

accountsservice 0.6.37-1ubuntu7 introduced a new bug where
libaccountsservice would not report the manager object as loaded. It
wasn't because of the content of that upload, but rather seemingly
because of building with a new compiler. It got uploaded shortly
  after the gcc 4.9 transition.

I wasn't able to determine whether this is something accountsservice
is doing or just gcc's fault. But even inserting some debug
statements around the place or downgrading optimization to -O1 made
the problem go away. So I'm leaning towards gcc.

For now, we just changed optimization in the package to workaround the
problem. But the root source should be investigated.
