I am using an external monitor on a laptop, and occasionally connect/disconnect it and switch between the external and builtin screen, the former being wider. The program works and responds to clicks as expected. However, the title bar of the window (which looks normal) behaves as if it didn't exist: it is completely transparent to clicks. When I click on any part of the title bar, I actually click on whatever is behind it. Other winows work fine. I _don't_ think this systematically happens with Update Manager, it's the first time I observe it. Please don't underestimate the importance of this bug. Whenever some visible object is transparent to clicks, it is something very dangerous which can have disastrous consequences (imagine there's a "delete all" confirmation button behind it). Also note that whether or not this is caused by an error in Update Manager (whose window is behaving badly), there's something wrong in the window system (I'm not sure whether it's Unity, Xorg, Compiz or who responsible for this) if such a thing merely _can_ happen. In the past, I would have simply fixed this by running 'unity --reset' in a terminal, but that has apparently been removed, thank you very much, so now I am unhappily left with no option that I can see but to reboot my machine to fix this weird unity behaviour. Why can't I successfully run autokey-qt as a startup application? By running autokey-qt as a start up application, is it somehow getting launched before the Unity top-panel is initialized? I'm able to run other indicators as startup applications (such as indicator-weather, hamster-indicator, parcellite). So why not autokey-qt? To reproduce this bug, do the following: 1) Install autokey-qt: sudo apt-get install autokey-qt 2) Add autokey-qt as a startup application: Super-key > type "startup applications" > Add Name "Autokey (qt)" > Add Command "autokey-qt" 3) Restart Your Computer 4) Login, and notice that autokey's "A" icon-indicator/applet near the clock is *MISSING*. 5) The indicator is missing, but you can verify that the autokey-qt process is indeed running with System Monitor: Super-key > type "system monitor" > System Monitor > Processes tab > Process Name > autokey-qt 6) See attached screen shot below. So as, you can see, autokey-qt is running, but there is no way to use it without that indicator. Workaround: Kill the orphan autokey-qt process and launch it again manually. However, my goal is to start it automatically each time I login, and the process should be killed each time I logout (So, that I don't get an "Already Running" error after logout and logging back in). I didn't even open it. I hit alt-tab to switch apps and the HUD opened instead. Now it won't go away. Additionally, the launcher is no longer responsive. I can mouse over and un-hide the launcher, but any clicks are sent through to whatever application is underneath the launcher. The icons no longer launch anything. In the past, I would have simply fixed this by running 'unity --reset' in a terminal, but that has apparently been removed, thank you very much, so now I am unhappily left with no option that I can see but to reboot my machine to fix this weird unity behaviour. Unity is still quirky and buggy, I don't think removing the --reset option is the best thing to do for now. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1160558] Re: AutoKey-QT Missing Indicator After Launched as Startup Application
[Expired for Unity because there has been no activity for 60 days.] ** Changed in: unity Status: Incomplete => Expired -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. Matching subscriptions: dx-packages https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1160558 Title: AutoKey-QT Missing Indicator After Launched as Startup Application Status in Unity: Expired Status in autokey package in Ubuntu: Expired Status in unity package in Ubuntu: Expired Bug description: When I run autokey-qt as a startup application, its indicator often doesn't appear on Unity's top-panel (by the clock). Based on my understanding, the schemas are found through the environment variable XDG_DATA_DIRS which currently is this (the default with Ubuntu 12.10): ben@ben-HPdv6:~$ echo $XDG_DATA_DIRS /usr/share/ubuntu:/usr/share/gnome:/usr/local/share/:/usr/share/ By searching for schema files using the locate command I have found what I believe to be the missing schema files as follows: ben@ben-HPdv6:~$ locate .schemas | grep "compiz" /usr/share/gconf/schemas/compiz-addhelper.schemas /usr/share/gconf/schemas/compiz-animation.schemas /usr/share/gconf/schemas/compiz-annotate.schemas /usr/share/gconf/schemas/compiz-bench.schemas /usr/share/gconf/schemas/compiz-ccp.schemas /usr/share/gconf/schemas/compiz-clone.schemas /usr/share/gconf/schemas/compiz-commands.schemas /usr/share/gconf/schemas/compiz-compiztoolbox.schemas /usr/share/gconf/schemas/compiz-composite.schemas /usr/share/gconf/schemas/compiz-copytex.schemas /usr/share/gconf/schemas/compiz-crashhandler.schemas /usr/share/gconf/schemas/compiz-cube.schemas /usr/share/gconf/schemas/compiz-dbus.schemas /usr/share/gconf/schemas/compiz-decor.schemas /usr/share/gconf/schemas/compiz-expo.schemas /usr/share/gconf/schemas/compiz-extrawm.schemas /usr/share/gconf/schemas/compiz-ezoom.schemas /usr/share/gconf/schemas/compiz-fade.schemas /usr/share/gconf/schemas/compiz-fadedesktop.schemas /usr/share/gconf/schemas/compiz-firepaint.schemas /usr/share/gconf/schemas/compiz-gnomecompat.schemas /usr/share/gconf/schemas/compiz-grid.schemas /usr/share/gconf/schemas/compiz-imgjpeg.schemas /usr/share/gconf/schemas/compiz-imgpng.schemas /usr/share/gconf/schemas/compiz-imgsvg.schemas /usr/share/gconf/schemas/compiz-inotify.schemas /usr/share/gconf/schemas/compiz-kdecompat.schemas /usr/share/gconf/schemas/compiz-mag.schemas /usr/share/gconf/schemas/compiz-maximumize.schemas /usr/share/gconf/schemas/compiz-mblur.schemas /usr/share/gconf/schemas/compiz-mousepoll.schemas /usr/share/gconf/schemas/compiz-move.schemas /usr/share/gconf/schemas/compiz-neg.schemas /usr/share/gconf/schemas/compiz-notification.schemas /usr/share/gconf/schemas/compiz-obs.schemas /usr/share/gconf/schemas/compiz-opacify.schemas /usr/share/gconf/schemas/compiz-opengl.schemas /usr/share/gconf/schemas/compiz-place.schemas /usr/share/gconf/schemas/compiz-put.schemas /usr/share/gconf/schemas/compiz-regex.schemas /usr/share/gconf/schemas/compiz-resize.schemas /usr/share/gconf/schemas/compiz-resizeinfo.schemas /usr/share/gconf/schemas/compiz-ring.schemas /usr/share/gconf/schemas/compiz-rotate.schemas /usr/share/gconf/schemas/compiz-scale.schemas /usr/share/gconf/schemas/compiz-scaleaddon.schemas /usr/share/gconf/schemas/compiz-scalefilter.schemas /usr/share/gconf/schemas/compiz-screenshot.schemas /usr/share/gconf/schemas/compiz-session.schemas /usr/share/gconf/schemas/compiz-shelf.schemas /usr/share/gconf/schemas/compiz-shift.schemas /usr/share/gconf/schemas/compiz-showdesktop.schemas /usr/share/gconf/schemas/compiz-showmouse.schemas /usr/share/gconf/schemas/compiz-showrepaint.schemas /usr/share/gconf/schemas/compiz-snap.schemas /usr/share/gconf/schemas/compiz-splash.schemas /usr/share/gconf/schemas/compiz-staticswitcher.schemas /usr/share/gconf/schemas/compiz-switcher.schemas /usr/share/gconf/schemas/compiz-td.schemas /usr/share/gconf/schemas/compiz-text.schemas /usr/share/gconf/schemas/compiz-titleinfo.schemas /usr/share/gconf/schemas/compiz-trailfocus.schemas /usr/share/gconf/schemas/compiz-vpswitch.schemas /usr/share/gconf/schemas/compiz-wall.schemas /usr/share/gconf/schemas/compiz-water.schemas /usr/share/gconf

Matching subscriptions: dx-packages https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1161831 Title: Window behaves as if title bar didn't exist Status in Unity: Expired Status in unity package in Ubuntu: Expired Bug description: The Update Manager has popped up informing me of the new available updates. [Expired for autokey (Ubuntu) because there has been no activity for 60 days.] ** Changed in: autokey (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Expired -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. Probably related to some bug in OpenOffice Writer too (but it's the system's resposibility to ensure this can't happen) ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.10 Package: unity 6.12.0-0ubuntu0.2 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.5.0-28.47-generic 3.5.7.9 Uname: Linux 3.5.0-28-generic i686 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia ApportVersion: 2.6.1-0ubuntu10 Architecture: i386 CompizPlugins: [core, composite, opengl, decor, vpswitch, mousepoll, compiztoolbox, snap, commands, place, resize, session, regex, grid, wall, move, gnomecompat, imgpng, animation, fade, unitymtgrabhandles, workarounds, scale, expo, ezoom, unityshell] Date: Tue Apr 16 15:56:17 2013 InstallationDate: Installed on 2010-06-23 (1028 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS "Lucid Lynx" - Release i386 (20100429) MarkForUpload: True ProcEnviron: TERM=xterm PATH=(custom, no user) XDG_RUNTIME_DIR= LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: unity UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to quantal on 2013-01-13 (93 days ago) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/1169574/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~dx-packages Post to : dx-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~dx-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1284017] Re: gnome-shell crashed with SIGABRT in g_thread_abort()
It's worth noting that this bug can no longer occur as it is described here -- g_mutex_lock() has been rewritten and the new version doesn't abort. That said, the underlying issue that was causing the misuse of a mutex could very well still exist... Unfortunately, it's very difficult to guess what that may be, at this point. ** Bug watch added: GNOME Bug Tracker #724929 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=724929 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to d-conf in Ubuntu. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1267695] Re: compiz in ubuntu 12.04 not work
Other than the bug title I see no evidence that Compiz was involved at all with this problem. The following lines appear in the original bug description. [ 216.323339] unity-2d-shell[2093]: segfault at 73006e ip 0073006e sp bfd88e5c error 14 in unity-2d-shell[8048000+1a000] This indicates a problem in the Unity-2D shell (which does not use Compiz). Given the lack of any additional diagnostic information or description of the problem, I'm reassigning this bug to that project and marking at as Incomplete until addition information, including a description of how the bug was produced, can be added by the reporter. ** Package changed: compiz (Ubuntu) => unity-2d (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: unity-2d (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to unity-2d in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1267695 Title: compiz in ubuntu 12.04 not work Status in unity-2d package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Atom Processor D2xxx/N2xxx Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 09) now use : grafick :Gallium 0.4 on llvmpipe (LLVM 3.2, 128 bits) ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.04 Package: xorg 1:7.6+12ubuntu2 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.8.0-35.50~precise1-generic 3.8.13.13 Uname: Linux 3.8.0-35-generic i686 .tmp.unity.support.test.1: ApportVersion: 2.0.1-0ubuntu17.6 Architecture: i386 CompizPlugins: [core, composite, opengl, decor, mousepoll, move, place, wall, compiztoolbox, imgpng, regex, session, grid, animation, vpswitch, workarounds, showmouse, firepaint, wobbly, gnomecompat, resize, expo, fade, ezoom, scale] CompositorRunning: None CurrentDmesg: [ 58.384100] init: plymouth-stop pre-start process (1934) terminated with status 1 [ 174.108733] audit_printk_skb: 24 callbacks suppressed [ 174.108746] type=1400 audit(1389324154.794:28): apparmor="DENIED" operation="open" parent=1 profile="/usr/lib/telepathy/mission-control-5" name="/etc/dconf/profile/user" pid=2300 comm="mission-control" requested_mask="r" denied_mask="r" fsuid=1000 ouid=0 [ 216.323339] unity-2d-shell[2093]: segfault at 73006e ip 0073006e sp bfd88e5c error 14 in unity-2d-shell[8048000+1a000] Date: Fri Jan 10 10:43:29 2014 DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: precise DistroVariant: ubuntu DkmsStatus: cedarview-drm, 20120717: added ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes, even including gdb or git bisection work if needed GraphicsCard: Intel Corporation Atom Processor D2xxx/N2xxx Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:0be2] (rev 09) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. I see this on systems with LDAP, and systems without. It's just happened on this machine, which is built from scratch about 1 week ago. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1310316] Re: Text scaling factor changing unexpectedly
Had the same issue and was so frustrated with this for the last 1.30hours. I fixed it by going and setting "system settings->screen display->scale for menu and title bars" to 1. Also set your text scaling factor in fonts to 1. Log out and log in to test. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. Matching subscriptions: dx-packages https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1310316 Title: Text scaling factor changing unexpectedly Status in Unity: Confirmed Status in unity package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: I have a MacBook pro with a Retina display. I have set the "Scale for menu and title bars" setting (into Settings > Displays) to 1.5 to make the UI looks good on my screen. That works very well. But sometimes, usually after logging, all the fonts of the UI become much bigger. When that happen I open unity tweat tool and notice that the text scaling factor changed to 2.25. If I reset it to 1 the all the fonts go back to normal. The problem does not happen all the time. I would say it happen one time out of three logging. It may also happen when installing applications from the software center. I have yet to find a procedure to reproduce it all the times.
