[Dx-packages] [Bug 1420889] Re: Desktop fails to load after login (displays tiled backgrounds)

2015-03-24 Thread Gregory Haskins
Thank for you taking the time to look into the issue.

Do note that I freely admit that I am not sure whether the problem is in
Unity. However, also note that the problem does strongly suggest it is
related to ubuntu at some level as everything _was_ working until a
specific apt-get upgrade was executed (I wish I had more details about
the one that broke things).

So, if the problem is not in Unity, any ideas on who needs to be looking
at the issue?

Status in Unity:

Status in unity package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
Was originally running 14.04-desktop in a VmWare Fusion v5-Pro guest.
Ran fine for quite a while. A certain update a few months ago
introduced an issue where I could no longer log in graphically. The
guest console would present a normal login after boot, but attempting
to log in causes the screen to display a tiled background and a
failure to present any UI components. Ssh access remains accessible,
so it seems to be purely a graphical desktop problem.

Anyway, I have since tried many things, including ensuring I had the
latest updates, reinstalling unity, upgrading to 14.10, and upgrading
Fusion to v7-Pro. The result is exactly the same. I will attach a
  screenshot.

To be fair, I do not know for sure this is a unity bug. But it is my
  best guess.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1436120] [NEW] Faulty transparency in Gtk+ "About" dialog due to overlay scrollbar

2015-03-24 Thread Egmont Koblinger
Public bug reported:

Open the Help->About dialog of a Gtk+ app, e.g. gnome-terminal, gedit,
evince...

Some text appears over the default gray background. Click on the
Credits or License button. New text appears on white. Now click on
this button again to close the info that just appeared.

Expected behivior: The initial look of the About dialog should be
restored.

Actual behavior: The foreground text is there, but the background
becomes black (Utopic) or transparent (Vivid beta).

If the dialog is closed and opened again, it'll be faulty right away for
the rest of the app's lifetime. You have to restart the application to
make it show correctly again.

Tested both with Gnome-shell and Unity; and both with Adwaita and
Ambiance. In case of gnome-terminal, both with and without the
unofficial transparency patch.

LIBOVERLAY_SCROLLBAR=0 makes the bug go away.

In https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=746707 mainsteam Gtk+
developer stated that he (presumably on Fedora) can't see the bug
either, and his (apparently correct) guess was that it's caused by the
overlay scrollbar.

Title:
Faulty transparency in Gtk+ "About" dialog due to overlay scrollbar

Status in overlay-scrollbar package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Open the Help->About dialog of a Gtk+ app, e.g. gnome-terminal, gedit,

If the dialog is closed and opened again, it'll be faulty right away
for the rest of the app's lifetime. You have to restart the
application to make it show correctly again.

Tested both with Gnome-shell and Unity; and both with Adwaita and
Ambiance. In case of gnome-terminal, both with and without the
  unofficial transparency patch.

LIBOVERLAY_SCROLLBAR=0 makes the bug go away.

  In https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=746707 mainsteam Gtk+
developer stated that he (presumably on Fedora) can't see the bug
either, and his (apparently correct) guess was that it's caused by the
  overlay scrollbar.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1436073] [NEW] Graphical Rendering Issues with Unity - Text Missing, Boxes Disappearing

2015-03-24 Thread Cindy Quach
Public bug reported:

Currently running the latest utopic kernel 3.16 and installed the Trusty
Enablement Stack with sudo apt-get install --install-recommends linux-
generic-lts-utopic xserver-xorg-lts-utopic libgl1-mesa-glx-lts-utopic
libegl1-mesa-drivers-lts-utopic

It's having some pretty bad graphical rendering issues, like text is
missing and my dialogue boxes are disappearing. (Screenshot attached). I
tested this on a Lenovo X1 Gen 3 and a Lenovo X250, both of which can
reproduce this issue. I also have a Dell M3800 which is not seeing this
issue.

Bug description:
  Hi

  What Happened:
  1) Turn on launcher auto hide
  2) Display the HUD (tap Alt)
  3) Move the mouse to the left side of the screen (as if you are showing the
launcher)
  4) Note the launcher is not displayed
  5) Now hide the HUD (either tap Alt or select the X in the top left corner)
  6) Note that the launcher is now displayed, after the HUD closes.

  What I expected to happen:
  - I expected that the launcher is not displayed at step 6.

I expected for the launcher to not be displayed at step 6 because the
user could have the HUD displayed for a long period of time then
decide that they don't need the HUD. The launcher is then suddenly
revealed to them as they moved their cursor to the left side of the
screen a few minutes a ago. This could then confuse the user to why
the launcher has appeared when all they did was close the HUD.

Hope this can be fixed soon.

  Andy

Need a mechanism for specifying what happens when an ical menuitem is
  clicked

Status in Clock application for Ubuntu devices:
  New
Status in indicator-datetime package in Ubuntu:

Status in reminders-app package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in ubuntu-calendar-app package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
indicator-datetime needs a way to dispatch an arbitrary URL when a
user clicks on an ical event menuitem.

In practice, datetime currently has clock-app hardwired for
  dispatching alarms (dispatch_url('appid://com.ubuntu.clock/clock
/current-user-version')) and calendar-app for everything else
  (dispatch_url('appid://com.ubuntu.calendar/calendar/current-user-
  version')).

There are two use cases that can be supported by datetime handling the
  URL property :

  (1) Clicking on an alarm menuitem opens up clock-app to that specific
alarm, rather than to clock-app's main page. Clock-app could specify
the information it needs in the URL, then open the right page when
passed that information later. indicator-datetime would act as a
  simple pass-through.

  (2) non-calendar, non-alarm items such as from the reminders app as
requested by mzanetti. The pattern would be the same as clock-app:
Reminders would add whatever URL it wants, then datetime would act as
a simple pass-through. This is preferable to adding more special cases
  to indicator-datetime.

See also related bug which discusses abstracting out the
icon shown in ical events' menuitems

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1435040] Re: Ubuntu Phone (BQ E4.5) does not connect to car-bluetooth

2015-03-24 Thread Nephilim1973
Probably we could improve the pairing behaviour by editing some configurations
files in /etc/bluetooth/..
(on mobile phone and/or workstation)

I remember, that this solved an issue pairing my workstation and a
HarmanKardon BT headset.

The car audio issue could only be solved on mobile phone configuration
files.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1435736] Re: alarms and event notifications causes time to freeze

2015-03-24 Thread Charles Kerr
This is likely the pulse issue that pat, ogra, and I discussed in
#phablet.

gdb trace of indicator-datetime-service when pressing the snooze button:

> Thread 1 (Thread 0xb470d000 (LWP 6431)):
> #0 0xb6e3ad24 in __libc_do_syscall () from
> /lib/arm-linux-gnueabihf/libpthread.so.0

> #3 0xb405738a in ?? () from
> /usr/lib/arm-linux-gnueabihf/gstreamer-1.0/libgstpulse.so

Which is being reached from a datetime-service call to
gst_element_set_state (m_play, GST_STATE_NULL) to stop the alarm sound
when the notification is closed.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1420889] Re: Desktop fails to load after login (displays tiled backgrounds)

2015-03-24 Thread Stephen M. Webb
Looking at the attached information I see this.

xserver.errors:
Failed to initialize GLX extension (Compatible NVIDIA X driver not found)
 No surface to present from.

That indicates a messed-up video driver installation.

Also this.

UnitySupportTest: Error: command ['/usr/lib/nux/unity_support_test',
'-p', '-f'] failed with exit code 1: Error: no composite extension

Also indicates a pretty messed-up video driver installation. This is
unlikely to be a bug in Unity, since Unity isn't even run because the
installed video driver does not support the basic functionality
required. The attached screenshot shows Unity is not running.

But it is my
  best guess.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1435736] Re: snoozing an alarm causes time to freeze

2015-03-24 Thread Oliver Grawert
i see the same with calendar notifications (which only fire off once
without "snoozing" ability) ... my clock was stuck at 17:30 (time of my
last meeting and calendar notification) the whole evening yesterday
which i only noticed around midnight and could only fix with a reboot
... the greeter clock seems affected as well.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1317253] Re: UI scaling and font scaling sometime get confused/change at random.

2015-03-24 Thread shadyyx
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1310316 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1310316

Well almost a year after the original bug was filed and we still have
this problem live. Affecting also me with a Dell laptop and 3 screens in
total setup (one laptop's + 2 displays). Had to upgrade the kernell to
3.13 and install some special Intel graphics drivers. Now when I set the
scaling of UI to 0.75 and let the bigger displays (with bigger pixels)
scale according to the display with the smallest controls the font size
scaling (some very hidden setting) suddenly changes (2-3 times out of 5
logins) to 0.56 making the fonts hardly readable. Unity tweak UI
installed just to make sure the scaling can be always reverted to 1.

UI scaling and font scaling sometime get confused/change at random.

Bug description:
  I have a Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro, with a 13.3" screen running at 3200x1800
pixels... I bought this partly to test out the UI scaling in Unity!...
and I have to say it's very awesome (both the screen and the UI
scaling)... however I have encountered a strange problem.

Seemingly at random, I have so far 3 times in 10 days had the font
size (not UI size) suddenly jump to something much too large.

UI scaling for the display is set at 1.38x and this is quite perfect
for me, it sure means no one will be able to read my screen over my
shoulder, but I that's fine! I had to install a Firefox plugin to
apply scaling there, but I realise why that is.

Anyway... I installed ubuntu-tweak and discovered that the large fonts
were due to the "Text Scaling Factor" having jumped up to a number
above 2.5... I also discovered that I could not move the slider
because every time I moved it the fonts re-scaled the slider moved and
lost mouse focus... and the slider reset to where it was to begin
with... I clicked the button on the right to return to 1.0, and it
returned to 1.4, which I assume is representative of the 1.38 I set in
the screen scaling... but I have no explanation for why it suddenly
jumped (when I logged out and back in) from 1.4 to something like
  2.5.)..
