[Dx-packages] [Bug 1489205] [NEW] ctrl+alt+left+up desktop switching doesn't work

2015-08-26 Thread Seth Arnold
Public bug reported:

I filed a new bug as requested in Bug #1108342

ctrl+alt+ works for up, down, left, right, up+right, down+left,
down+right. It does not work for up+left.

When I filed 1108342 I mentioned that this behaviour used to work in
12.04 LTS. I no longer have an easy way to boot 12.04 LTS on this
hardware to verify that it did work, but that's the most logical release
for me to have installed on this machine when it was brand new.

How do I test for the possible lack of hardware support for
ctrl+alt+up+left?

Thanks

Bug description:
  [Description]
When hovering over icons on unity or using an application which does a lot of
re-drawing there is significant flickering and graphic corruption. This only
happens in 12.10 downgrading to 12.04 fixes the issue.

  [Work Around]
unity --replace sometimes fixes the issue (ie you have to do it two or three
times, but eventually it does fix it and the issues doesn't re-appear for that
desktop session).

[Easiest way to force the flicker]
I have found the easiest way to force a flicker is to drag a window frame to
the right hand side of the screen so the yellow bounding box appears on the
right half of the screen, when this happens a lot of flickering occurs.

  [Possibly duplicates]
I've found a few bugs with similar problems, however these are for different
versions so wasn't sure if they were duplicates or not bug #963093 ; bug

the app but does not show an icon in the launcher. The icons also
remain visible when the apps are removed from the dconf editor from
  com.canonical.unity.webapps.

Title:
Dash is flickering when a video playback window is underneath it

Status in Unity:
  Invalid
Status in unity package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
This problem appeared after upgrading to Ubuntu 12.10.
  Steps to reproduce:
   - Open a video in Totem or in VLC
   - Activate the dash
The part of the dash which overlaps the video is flickering (repeatedly
becoming fully transparent for a fraction of a second). It doesn't matter
whether the video is playing or paused. The problem remains even when the video
window is hidden behind other windows.

Bug description:
A black cursor is blinking on top of the screen.
It is not as regular as a true shell prompt (because of glitches), but I'm
sure this is the cursor of the underlying TTY.

If I try to switch to any other TTY, the focus remains on the desktop
(eg. I can still click and type in Firefox) but the black cursor does
  move as I type.

For example, I just switched to TTY 1 and was able to log-in (I see it
because of the cursor position on the screen), while my username and
my password were also written in the text-box where I'm writing this
  bug report.

Opening the dash and typing in the search bar is very slow (can't give
numbers, but typing feels like beeing connected by ssh to a machine at the

Bug description:
At the moment, the Rubbish bin icons is locked to the launcher by
  default.

Some people don't need such access to the rubbish bin.

This icon should have the option "Unlock from Launcher" in its
quicklist so people who don't find it useful can make some space in
  their launcher.

As this icon is not really an app, maybe it would be more suitable to
be able to enable or disable them from System Settings -> Appearance,
  CCSM or gconf-editor.

Why does it take so long to logout (or restart or shutdown) from the
  Unity desktop?

I have the xfce and lxde desktops installed along with unity:
  sudo apt-get install xfce4 lxde

When I logout (restart or shutdown) with those desktops, it happens
very quickly. When I shutdown with LXDE, it is almost as if someone
yanked the battery out of my laptop it is so fast.

So, what is the Unity desktop doing, during logout (restart and
  shutdown), that is so time-consuming?

What can we do to make it more immediate (by default) in future
  updates and releases?

Bug description:
Week 33 - Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal with ppa:timo-jyrinki/prerelease (On machines
with Intel, Nvidia, Radeon GPU)
Test case ID - Can 30
Issue:- The icons which are next to BFB (i.e. any app icon which is below BFB
icon on launcher) and workspace switcher icon (i.e. any app icon which is
placed above workspace switcher icon on launcher) on the launcher also do not
move to make space for the moving icon.

See screenshot 1 and 2 attached - it shows an icon being dragged on
launcher and the icons next to BFB and workspace switcher icons on
launcher are stuck in its place and dont move.

  Action:-
#. Move the mouse so it is over a launcher icon for an application
#. Press and hold the mouse button
#. Drag the icon up and down over the icons in the launcher

  Expected Result:
  * As the centre of the dragged icon passes the mid-point of the next item
above or below it, the icon being dragged over moves and is replaced by the
blank "space".
  * The BFB and the switcher icons do not move

Bug description:
  Hi,

Already seen on 3 different machines - so confirming bug immedately -
2 having Intel graphics, and one NVidia graphics, so this is probably
  not graphics card specific.

Symptoms : At times, especially when system is under heavy CPU load
(which can be noticed by the fact that the current window becomes
"dark"), windows borders and Unity top bar and/or laucher starts
blinking/flashing in rectangular shape, in a very speedy and ugly way.

Usually things resume to normal after some seconds or tens of seconds,
when CPU load goes back to normal.

This didn't happpen previously, so this is a regression.

As far as I can tell, I have started noticing this after the time
where Mesa broke Intel graphics then was fixed again (during Beta 1),
so this bug might well relate to Mesa.

Additional: This seems to be related to some hardware limitations on
keyboards not handling ctrl+alt+up+left at the same time, where as the

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1475719] Re: Copying text to clipboard randomly fails half of the times

2015-08-26 Thread teo1978
No, I'm not.

I remember that issue. That was systematic and also I thought that was
fixed (but I almost never close a window before I paste, because since
that issue I got used to keeping the source window open and also I
rarely would need to close it anyway)

Bug description:
When using the spread to switch amongst instances of the same
application, on ubuntu 12.10, the window's title should appear on

needed to perform a mouse over twice to get the title displayed).

See the attached screenshot for an example.

  Thanks!

These types of crashes usually happen shortly after logging in, but in
this case, it happened much later. Crashing early doesn't seem to
happen with debugging info turned on, as it was for this issue.

For more details on this type of crash, please see bug #750386.

WORKAROUND: For some of us, this is caused by a corrupt
.config/dconf/user file in our home directories. Try removing this
file, and report back. Be warned, however, that by removing this
file, you will lose many of your desktop environment configuration
settings. If this is a concern, rename it and keep it around in case
contents of the file are salvageable.

Bug description:
My ThinkPad T43 works quite well with Ubuntu 12.04, but with a clean
install of 12.10, Unity is slow (I can type in the Unity Dash Home and
then count the seconds as my letters slowly appear in sequence),
sometimes freezes (when I close an application, the icon becomes faded
in the Dash but doesn't disappear, and the application window just
stays on the screen but I can't interact with it), and text develops
little lines through it after suspend and resume (this was also
present in 12.04 and can be fixed with a modification to the

Bug description:
Similar to comment #4 on bug #1126221 I find windows go missing after
a suspend/resume. This tends to be one of several Chrome windows that
are still visible if I alt-tab and hit down with Chrome highlighted,
  but aren't visible if I use super-w.

This isn't bug #1126221 since I am not adding/removing displays,
unless there is something happening over the suspend/resume cycle that
is triggering the same code path.

I am running a triple head set up on a Radeon HD 6950 with 2GB RAM
with the radeon driver. Here is the filtered output of xrandr with the
  display layout details:

  Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 5760 x 1440, maximum 16384 x 16384

Can you try something for me? Are you closing the source window after

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1487826] Re: upgrade 14.04 to 14.10 audio is not working

2015-08-26 Thread Will Cooke
Unfortunately 14.10 is no longer supported. Please try 15.04 for the
latest release, or 14.04 for the LTS. If you still have the same
problem please open a new bug. This fault is unlikely to be a Unity bug
though, more likely it could be an issue with drivers, ALSA, PulseAudio,
etc.

Bug description:
On fresh boots the greeter & desktop may have the cursor visible or may not
until mouse is moved.
On a log out/in the cursor is almost always invisible until mouse is moved.
(unless made visible in greeter screen, then visible on Desktop

This is all well & good, maybe some intentional aesthetics/design
(https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=687791) , however sometimes the
cursor never becomes visible.
In that case hitting some keys or context menu can cause it to show, though
most times a log out is needed.
(with the removal of ctrl+alt+delete > log out this means most users will
need to either blindly find the session indicator or hit power button.

When the g-s-d cursor plugin is disabled then the cursor is always
visible, it the plugin has no use in an ubuntu session then maybe it
  should be default disabled

There is also the possibility, particularly on ssd drives, of a login
with no session indicator. This occasionally combines with no visible
  cursor.

just like a pad.
Are you about to develop this feature?

  I love Ubuntu! Thank you.

Bug description:
When connecting my external monitor (Dell U2713H, 1920x1080) via HDMI,
all elements on the screen scale properly, except for the icons in the
launcher which display a bit garbled/blurry (don't know what is the
appropriate term in English, see attachment). Icons show normal on my
laptop, and also the icons of the window switcher (alt+tab) display as
  expected.

I am using the Numix Circle icon theme
  (https://github.com/numixproject/numix-icon-theme-circle). As the
window switcher shows the icons normally, the theme uses scaleable
icons, and non-numix icons are affected too, I suspect it has not
anything to do with the theme.

Bug description:
When installing a gesture handling application such as ginn, Unity
should allow the application to also receive gesture details so that
native gestures aren't the only ones which can be handled. I believe
this is related to a bug in ginn
  (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ginn/+bug/985121). The
workaround to make ginn subscribe to gestures is to recompile the
unity package after commenting out the initialization of gesture
handling in Unity. The problem, of course is that the native gestures
which provide drag handles for touch screen users are no longer
available making window management difficult. Allowing some pass-
through of gesture handling would enable additional touch screen
gestures to be handled without the loss of the native gestures in
  Unity.

(Should be listed as an enhancement request.)

A user reported this problem for the latest SmartGit, too, though we
already set a couple of environment variables in the launcher script to
prevent it. He runs Linux Mint 17.2 Cinnamon and had the "Global

not crash any more.

I deleted them both without openning. Seems like we've got some Matrix
situation where two phone application get an information about the new message
but the apps doesn't communicate with each other to inform the indicator, that
the indicated message had already been deleted.
Not a big problem but looks pretty primitive in comparison to other devices

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1364647] Re: Can't hear clock alarm when headphones are plugged in but not in your ears

2015-08-26 Thread Pat McGowan
We can fix this in the network indicator to have it query the current
audio device and add the internal speaker if it is not current. This
should allow us to play the alarm tone on both. per diwic

1) pa_context_get_server_info and then pa_server_info->default_sink_name gives
you the sink
2) then call pa_context_get_sink_info_by_name for that sink and see if
pa_sink_info->active_port is set
3) if so use active_port->name (and active_port->description for a
human-readable name)
4) if not, just use sink->name and sink->description

change active port to "output-speaker" for the card named
"droid_card.primary" Or to both if possible, there is also a "output-
speaker+wired_headphone" port

There is existing code that is similar for the dialer to set the port
and a QML wrapper
