I installed the 2-cd-version of mdk 7.2 with all options in about 30 mins..
(Pentium III 500, 192 mb ram, 6xDVD drive, 5600rpm 20gb hd..)
(tower, not laptop)

well i don't know if that was the problem, i gave the linux partition just
over 4Gb the install was just over 2Gb

It could be that you selected too many packages and you are running out of 
space. I had a similar problem with my old laptop.

come to think of it, it was towards the end of the install, and i was prompt
a few times because it couldn't install some features. I'll give it another
go tommorrow and see what happens
