It's an herbal elixir/tincture that you can get at any health food store..
I think even the main-stream stores carry them now.
Very effective treating ringworm.

No prescription needed.
I have seen it in drug stores in pill form -- do you crush it or does it come in powder as well?
I have the pill form and crush it into their wetfood daily.
I give them Tuna w/water or ground chicken.
How much do you give and for what duration?
they should have at least 500 mg per day
use it everyday it helps the immune system (builds it up)

Julie,

Didn't know if you had another picked out to replace the orange kitty for the front page, but this kitten is in "the back" - and that means the next to be put down.  She wasn't going to be put up for rescue/adoption, but the supervisor agreed to give her a few days.  Although the flash of the camera makes her look as though she has no eyes in the picture, she just has the foggy eyes and you can tell that she is blind.  Read the description below.

IC-4KITTENDomestic Short Hair,Tabby - Grey Mix

Size: SmallAge: BabySex: FemaleID: 05120510 Coweta AC
Notes: PLEASE CONTACT COWETA COUNTY ANIMAL CONTROL TO ADOPT THIS PET:
770-254-3735.

This precious baby will break your heart!!!

She is blind...she looks to have cataracts over both her eyes (you can see when we took her picture how the camera reflected the cataracts). She was brought into animal control because she "bit" someone (she was probably very scared because she can't see). When I took her out to take her picture...she snuggled up as close as she could get to my neck and began to purr non-stop even while trembling. It broke our heart to put her back into her cage (she felt her way right back to her spot behind her litter box).

PLEASE..please do not let her life end at animal control. She desperately needs to be part of a loving family where she will be safe. Please hurry! This sweetie will be avail. for adoption, rescue OR EUTHANIZATION 12/15!! NOTE: CCAC CANNOT ADOPT ONLINE OR OVER THE PHONE. ADOPTIONS MUST BE DONE IN PERSON.

So many cases are due to:

2) DIRTY litterboxes
3) DECLAWING
4) Emotional upsets (That CAN be dealt with!!!  After all, in 99% of these cases it is the human who brings on stress ~ moving, new baby, new "pet"...I could go on & on...)

Rebecca,
    I don't say much but read the emails. Guess you might say I lurk alittle bit...LOL

If the last resort is taking your baby in to the Vet getting pilled or whatnot then do it. You could arrange for it certain times of the day for them to do it. Like the Vet Techs or Vet Assistants can do it to keep the stress down on you some are very good about doing it. That way you wouldn't have to do it. All you have to do is put him in the carrier and off you go. Cats feel the stress from you when they are being butts...so it makes matters worse.
I don't know how far you are from them but it sounds like this is the only option for you unless you board the kitty.
I have done this myself. I have a kitty that will fight you tooth and nail myself, he is the only one out of 10 that I owned. My others are okay with it but him. He is a "Demon" he can be your worse nightmare. So I pray and hope that he doesn't get sick when the others do.

I feel the same way. I'll probably never leave the group because there is so much information here and caring/great people. I think I have been on this group since 2000-2001 can't remember. I feel the compassion/pain/joy for others since I have lost a few to this horrible disease myself. So I have a special place in my heart for these furbabies whether they are mine or someone elses. At least a few rescues/shelters are accepting the positive kitties and putting them into foster homes here. But not enough though.

    I have a friend's kitty may have Ringworm. The kitty has a patch of fur missing on her ear. But she has also been treated for earmites. So is it possible that the hair may be from scratching? If it is ringworm what is the treatment for it. I'm sorry I haven't paid much attention to the prior posts regarding the treatment.

Geez, I don't feel so bad now because of all my cats.
I have 4 rescues in which I'm glad to say two of them are Ragamuffins that were adopted over the weekend. Will be holding them until Friday this week.

"By the way my rescue of over 200 Ragamuffins is officially over" everyone has been adopted into loving homes"
They were adopted to people all over the country.

The other two are purebred Siameses that were turned into a kill shelter. Reason for surrendered is divorce. These two are siblings and are 7 yrs old. Very beautiful I might add.
Due to my relocating I have to keep my rescues down for the move. (Moving onto some acreage...YAY!!)

Then there are my outside cats (5)
My personal kitties are:
Ragamuffins (2)
Persians (3)
Siameses (6)

Wendy,
    I'm so sorry to hear about your "Cricket". My husband very comforting when I lost my "Taz" as well. The sad thing is I couldn't be with Taz when he died. I lost him in surgery while they were trying to remove tumors from his eye and skull. His link is below under my signature "Pet Memorial" if your interested in seeing him and his story.
I too have all my loved ones
(Taz, Smokey, Sammi, Sasha, and my father)
with me that have been cremated. They are with me here in the computer room. Which gives me some comfort at times.

I'm so glad you were with Cricket. He knows you loved him and he loved you back.

We all have that special kitty in our lives. It may be one or a few of them that just gets into our hearts even though we have others in the home. Worming their way into our hearts...guess that is what I'm trying to say.

There is just something special about Felv kitties. I know it took me about a year before I could talk about my Taz because I would break down and cry.

I shed tears for you knowing what it is like just like everyone else in this group. It is heartbreaking and we are never prepared for it.

You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.
May he be greeted at the bridge by all of our Furangels then off to run and catch butterflies until you are together again.
Bless you for taking in this kitty and giving him the love he needed.
Take care of yourself! There is nothing wrong with carrying his collar with you to work.

Well, it kinda like being a used car salesman but I'm honest. The same type of technique. Years ago I sucked too at adoptions but I learned. I didn't like being around people back then really still don't but it comes with the territory.
I did alot of advertising on them and it work. Word of mouth from adopters.
I had some kitties go to CA. ILL (Chicago area) TX OR and WA.
I had them housed with 3 foster familes that had the room plus my home. The Vet would take a day to do their check-ups and such.
Really no secret here.

I know what you mean about the numbers growing sometimes I have to be careful myself. My husband gives me that certain look...LOL

I have found by giving both that it helps. Your Vet should be to give that to you. They do carry it in most animal hospital and clinics. Since you have taken the kitty in to see them you can go pick it up. Tell them it's urgent Cricket needs to eat. They do develop a fatty liver.
If you have to leave make sure he is cared for someone that knows what they are doing. This is a very critical time!

How sweet and honorable of Boo-Boo!
That's a Siamese for ya! Nah just kidding!

I have to tell you all this!
I have a personal kitty that is a Blue PT Ragamuffin, his name is Boo-Boo too.
It is my nickname for him even though his name real name Blue. He only knows Boo-Boo so when I call him Blue he knows he is in deep doodoo.

He was part of my rescue effort of over 200 Ragamuffins here in WA. state from a Hoarder/Breeder situation.
Everyone was sick and underweight. You name it these kitties had it all (illnesses) but I'm glad to say no one died which surprise the hell out of me. Believe it or not none tested positive for Felv/Fiv.
I'm glad to say all I have left now are 3YAY!!!
Everyone has been adopted but them. They are listed on my Petfinder for those that are interested.
I stated if I can pull this rescue effort off, I can do anything!
Guess what it's happening only 3 left!
Will take a little break from rescue for a day or two. Get my thoughts together. Will still have one ear open to those needing rescued.
Sorry to drag this on just wanted to talk about it briefly.
Thanks for reading!

Myself I have been there and done that as well being pregnant and having at least a dozen kitties at the time.
The babies now full grown adults have done the same with their babies my grandchildren. Nobody yet has gotten sick from having cats.
This seems to be the biggest scare factor in my rescue of Siamese cats. They are given up due to being pregnant regardless of what the cats age may be. It happens more to the senior kitties that need new homes because of it.

Anyway, only you can make the choices of whats right for you and your furbabies.

My heart goes all out to the both of you. Your are in my thoughts and prayers.
God only knows how much we all know what it is like to lose a kitty to this horrible disease. At least these kitties had a life with us instead of elsewhere when their future unpredictable.

Patches has occasionally been coughing for about a week. I had noticed it a few times a day, now I do not notice it at all during the day but am woken up by it about once per night. It sounds like a hairball but nothing comes up (and when she gets hairballs she vomits, has never coughed before). Other than that she seems fine.  I have been doing research and see that coughing at night could be from heart disease, and I think my new vet said she detected a heart murmer. I am thinking about getting her checked. I hate to over-intervene with my positives though, due to stress factor if it turns out nothing is wrong. Have any of your cats had this symptom before and had it be nothing?

Lucy's bladder stone is bigger rather than smaller from the month on S/D and so is getting it removed surgically on Monday.  Please pray for her and send her good thoughts to get through the surgery easily and not get sick afterwards, as she is positive too.

Thanks,
Michelle

2005-08-12 Thread TatorBunz

Hello everyone,
    I wanted to say I have been reading all the emails. I'm so sorry for the losses and the ones that are ill. They are all in my thoughts and prayers.

I've been involved with a Breeder/Hoarder situation with 200 Ragamuffins that range from babies up to adults. The person abandoned the kitties and split to CA. to keep from going to jail.
Anyway, I was called one week ago to help. My God...I have never seen so many beautiful kitties in one location but get this there are 3-4 more locations of kitties.
None of these kitties had been altered. So about 70 of them have been altered so far. I end up taking about 25 into my rescue and of course aren't altered/vaccinated. They are in isolation in my home. Will start altering on Mondayoh how fun!
These kitties I have are 7-8 months old of all colors.
I'm glad to say I have placed 12 of them with proof of altering from the Vets to private people.
This was yesterday...as usual I get called at the last minute asking for help.
These are temporary fosters the breeder dumped on back in May of this year.
So if you know anyone in WA, OR, or ID looking for a Purebred Ragamuffin there are many to choose from me here in WA. CALL ME or EMAIL ME!!!  (425) 344-6933 or [EMAIL PROTECTED]
My requirement is paid proof of when the animal will be altered and Vet/reference/home check.
Thanks!

Hi -

I think you are incredibly kind to offer a home for this Siamese, but I think you are too far away because of the condition of the cat.

Here's the story.  This beautiful purebred Siamese cat belonged to around the corner from a friend of mine,  and she noticed the cat was gradually starving, eating out of all the dumpsters in the apartment complex.  He was very sweet and just gorgeous but skin and bones.  She got neighbors to help her find the owner.  Turned out the owner's wife had been ill and recently died.  Guess the cat had been the WIFE'S cat because it was starved.  The man signed the cat over to her care.  My friend took it to the SPCA vet and discovered the cat was very old (12-15 years) and has kidney "failure".  Another vet (a cat specialist) said she has to rehydrate the cat daily with 150 units of saline solution every day of its life and it will likely last about 6 months.  So this indigent woman used $300 on her credit card to treat this cat and then asked me to help.  I supplied a month's worth of kidney healing food.  I could not get additional hydration bags and needles for her or any red blood cell medicine which she was also giving him.  She cannot afford more of these things but I don't want to carry the whole thing for her financially because she needs to understand what she has taken on, since she keeps saving the "unsave-able" cats which she can't afford.

This woman is trying to get back to her native country to see her sick parents and has to find a place to send this cat.

This Siamese cat, though, seems awfully weak to travel to Washington, and would be a lot of work to rehydrate every day.   He can't go back home because the man will starve and neglect him.   I wish I could find someone in the Sacramento area who would just take him for the little time he has left.

Thanks,

Nessa

That is so very true, Belinda! Yes, this does happen!
Thank you for pointing this out!

I deal with these type of situations all the time.

1) Animal Bunchers that sell to the highest bidder
2) Research B Labs
3) Used in training for dogfights
4) Human Consumption

I had a litigation last year over Animal Bunchers thankfully I won! To this day they are still being watched...YAY!!!
Please hope these babies don't end up like this. Pray they go to good homes!

I couldn't agree more with you. Poor gal I feel so bad for her it's tough losing two babies within the same day.
I've had it happen to me within a week and that was bad enough for me.
Where ever she travels I hope she is safe and sound as well.

Sad News-Katie Tetley

2005-07-06 Thread TatorBunz

Some of you may not have known Katie Tetley, personally.  I am sending this to as many rescues as I could to be sure all would have this tragic news.

Katie Tetley, along with numerous animals, died in her home yesterday as a result of an electrical fire.  I believe her beloved "Cookie" was one of the survivors but is badly burned and just hanging in there.  11 cats, conditions not known, also survived and are at the Abita Springs shelter.   Her Jazz (Sharpei) and a Sharpei foster(Jo-lee) perished with her. Her husband Fred was at work and is okay.

Funeral services are incomplete at this time but this is what I know.  Tentative viewing will be Sunday at Hanacher Funeral Home in Slidell, La. with burial services on Monday.

Katie was involved in several rescue groups, and I am hoping that one of you viewing this message is able to get in touch with the cat rescue group in Atlanta, who she volunteered with a lot.  I am not sure of the name, and all of her records burned, so her husband doesn't have any information.
I believe Cookie is at the Ponchartrain Animal Hospital. All other dogs died in the home.
Please keep Katie and all of her rescues, who perished with her, in your prayers; most important, for Fred who is devastated at the loss of his wife, animals and home.

Kerry,
    Oh my god...you are in my thoughts and prayers for losing two in a 24 hr period. My heart goes all out to you and the other furbabies you have. (Momcat and Mickey)
Please care of yourself and we are here for you

In a message dated 7/6/2005 4:25:58 PM Pacific Daylight Time, [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes:

It's been a painful day. I lost my gentle giant Snowball this afternoon. I never expected that.
He was breathing rapidly when I got home from the clinic. I thought at first he was stressed because of losing his girlfriend Flavia. I couldn't take the risk, tho, so I rushed him to the clinic. His lungs were full of fluid. Only 25 per cent was not full and even that was compromised. I discussed it with the same vet I saw this morning. I couldn't risk him dying while I was gone, and that seemed a very real possibility.
Snowball was the biggest cat, a flamepoint, but he wouldn't hurt a soul. He was terribly timid. He stopped playing a couple of months ago, but I thought it was a lazy phase, because he had been pretty lazy before.
The other little ones would enjoy batting him when he was below them on the tree. He never batted them back. he was too gentle. He knew he could squash them if he wanted too, but he didn't want to hurt them.
I'm in shock for Snowball, and I guess Flavia, tho she has been so ill, and I need to process it.
Please send prayers for my remaining Mickey and Momcat. They are going to be feeling very down and scared, and I'm scared they'll stop eating.
I haven't read your replies yet because I just got back, and I have to leave in 30 mins, and I haven't finished packing.
But there were lots--I'm so grateful. I'll read them when I get back.
love and hugs to all
Kerry

LOL, that's why Doobie got neutered. We were sound asleep one night, and all of a sudden, it got warm and wet on our backs. He had peed about a gallon of stinky tom cat pee on top of all of our covers, at just about shoulder level, and it had soaked all the way through the comforter, blanket, sheet, and US! I was SO mad, I called the vet at 7:00 AM that morning, and said "I have a cat that needs to have his nuts chopped off TODAY!", and they fit him right in. He has NEVER peed on the bed since. I think when I told him "OH, buddy, you are gonna PAY for this one!" he realized I was serious when I loaded him up and took him to the vet first thing that morning, and that night when he was flopping around in a drunken stupor minus two testicles! To say he learned a lesson is putting it mildly. I know, it's mean to neuter a cat as punishment, but he REALLY asked for that one! He might have stayed a tom for his entire life, if he hadn't pulled that trick! Now, when he's being bad, and I say "Don't you EVEN think about it!" he generally stops! I also trim claws as punishment around here. One cat scratches another, that cat gets a claw trimming. They hate it, because they can't do wild acrobatics on the cat tree when they don't have claws. Oh, hey, you guys recall me saying how my girl cat doesn't use the box, but will go in front of it, or in an empty box with no filler? Well, on many people's advise, I went and bought a new large UNcovered litterbox and I have not found any pee on the floor since. It WAS the covered boxes, she felt trapped in them, I think!
Jennhttp://ucat.us/http://ucat.us/domesticcatlinks.html

~~~
How about being already in BED and sniffing and realize someone peed on it!  I run a dehumidifier and I guess someone did it during the day and it had dried before I got in bed that night. agh!!!
Even if it only looks like it I still go after them. Kinda like letting them know I'm watching them when possible. My males are what you would say "Alpha" so they have to prove to another or they will beat each other up.
I have a ring/circle here one will pick on the one then that will pick another one. This happens about twice a day.
They have been around each other since they were kittens. They aren't related and they were altered at 3 months of age.
Oh yeah there is nothing worse than smelling pee on bed linen and pillows especially at bedtime when your tired. I've been lucky lately that hasn't happened in awhile. But for godsake don't leave the clothes on the floor they will ge them for sure.
It's a habit for me to constantly watch the cats when there are people around so they don't mark their coats or whatnots if they aren't hung up.
Thanks to you all for your thoughts and prayers pertaining to "Angel Ling" and I. It was much appreciated.
My Vet was awesome at this time of need and was able to get me right in. He spoke to Ling and ask him if he was ready to cross to the bridge. That he knew he was tired and wanted to sleep.
God, he was so sincere I started bawling my eyes out...he understood to let Ling go and it was the right decision. I have been with pets numerous times being PTS but Ling went so fast, so that told me he was ready.
This is the same Vet that had been treating him since I got him.
I know I didn't have him all that long (6 months maybe) but it was long enough for me to become attached to him. He was the perfect Siamese he was an unique guy. Wished all were like him in certain ways. I will miss him dearly.   :(
Yes, I have done that. He also is Hyper-T was on meds for that.
I'm surprised that he has made it this far. He was in such poor shape when I got him that my Vets ask me if I was sure about this. I forgot to mention too, all his teeth were bad and if we would have put him in surgery to have then removed he wouldn't survived. His system is failing due to neglect prior to me getting him.
I wanted him to know that he was loved and cared for by us til the end regardless of how much time he had left.
My Rescue Senior Siamese...not good :(
2005-06-28 Thread TatorBunz
Good morning all,
    Remember the Senior Siamese that was willed to me?
Well, I'm going to be taking him to the Vet today to send him off to the bridge. He is in the final phase of kidney failure. I don't want him to suffer anymore so I have decided to let him go. He has stopped eating three days ago. I have force fed him and he is throwing it all back up. He has also been fed intravenously as well. He has loss so much weight as well.
He was about 15 yrs old when I got him. He was in poor health and all. He was Hyper-T so that didn't help matters. He had 7 claws imbedded into his pads (minor surgery) and Ear Mites prior to me getting him.
I'm going to do this without my husband around because he always makes it harder. (he is a softy)
So wish "Ling" a safe journey to the bridge.
Well, I don't really know anything about her at this point. The vet said she looks young adult, under 3 anyways. She acts like she was a housecat at some point, she's very spoiled, and has to be on the couch or bed. She is actually very tiny compared to my other cats, she only weighs 6 pounds (while my other cats range from 12 to 14 pounds), but she is built very lanky, so she gives the impression of the cat that goes on and on when she stretches out like that. I have more pics, but have not uploaded them all yet. She is already playing with the other cats, she intergraded really easily into the household. I'm constantly having to tell her she can't do things, and my house now has ramps to everything because she was not going to stay in the cage where she was supposed to stay for a month of bedrest, she was CLIMBING the cage wire and hanging from the top and screaming! I figured, which is worse, her hanging from her front legs and constantly digging like mad at the cage, or allowing her to rest on the bed or couch? So, in a nutshell, she won, I lost. But she really does seem fine, and the lack of cage rest doesn't seem to be causing any problems, so far. I'll tell you one thing, it's been a 100% turn around from day one, she's like a whole new cat already. You'd never know she has a broken back.
Transport is being arranged to Teri Mohr and/or Pacific Siamese Rescue of some siamese cats from the high kill shelter in Camarillo/Ventura county.Please, is there anyone at all who could take one of the cats for about a week?   We can make arrangements to get him to you in the LA area. The cat is a male siamese who has stitches from an abcess, and it has been recommended that he get into a foster home immediately, even prior to the transport, which will occur in a week.The cat kennel worker says he is a nice cat, who gives her head buts and likes to be petted.  He's on meds, and the shelter's vet tech says he's a little difficult to give meds to.  It would be best if he could get to a foster home NOW, to get ready for the transport.this is an urgent request.
Oh boy, I could tell you some stories. I would have to set my butt down long enough to tell and write them.
I agree with you on the charities...the money seems to go elsewhere instead of where it's suppose to. So I tend to shy away myself from them too. I don't think your the only one in this group. Such a shame   :(
(Since I've had so many bad experiences with "charities" I figured if I ever managed to get them published, I'd use part of the money to help fund vet bills for families that adopt special need animals - to encourage them to do so.  That way I KNOW where the money is going and that its being used wisely and NOT going to fund the non-profit shelter owner's mistress' boob job...but that's another story.)
If I ever do manage to get published Nina, I'll let you know.  Of course, I'll have to...I'll need more stories...  :-)
Thanks again.
Help...Transporters Needed CA-OR (URGENT)
2005-06-17 Thread TatorBunz
Permission To Cross Post
Hello all,
    I'm working on the legs for a run from southern CA. up to WA. (June 25th thru June 26th)
This is a urgent rescue effort in saving few Siamese cats that are going to be on death roll. They will be crated and current in vaccinations.
We have southern Oregon covered up to Portland. I will cover the Portland area up to Arlington, WA if need to.
It would be much appreciated if I could get some Transport Volunteers from Portland to Seattle.
Ventura legs are being worked on right now.
The concern is getting the legs filled from Sacramento area up to southern Oregon.
I will give more details as they come in.
Please contact me if you would like to help in this matter. Your time would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
If the squirt bottle doesn't work...use a soft-light-weight foam ball and wing it at him.  (I know it sound aweful to throw anything at your animal...which is why I said only a soft foam ball that can't possible hurt them.  It will distract without injuringyou can always soak it in lemon juice, but ONLY use it DRY.  The lemon smell will be on the ball- cats don't like citrus and it will further help to reinforce the experience as an unpleasant one without causing lasting damage.
(We tried squirt bottles to keep Quintapus off the counter tops to no avail. When he was a kitten-adolescent,  Mom got so frustrated one evening when he hopped up to help himself to chicken that she was cooking for dinner that she turned the kitchen sink hose/rinser on himhe just LEANED into it & shut his eyes & started purring!..we were laughing so hard we were crying.  So we had to come up with an alternative.  The nerf ball worked better for us, but only AFTER we soaked and dryed the lemon juice to it.)
