Importing HTML into FrameMaker?

HTML, or XHTML? If the latter, structured FrameMaker comes with a structured
app for XHTML. I suppose - although I've not tried it - that this would allow
you to open XHTML files and maintain their structure: 'all' you'd need to do
would be to knock up a style sheet.

Importing HTML into FrameMaker?

For the tables you could always import the HTML into Word and export the
tables out as RTF.

That would help.

I think tables are probably going to be the nightmarish part.

For those of you who are still wondering what this
was about ... "tzurot" means "troubles" in Hebrew.
The Yiddish equivalent is "tzuros" or "tsuris" which
is also "troubles" as in "big time troubles!"

However, the more interesting license plate I saw in
rural Missouri over 25 years ago was MOMZA.

markzware.com makes some Quark conversion filters for 7.x and 6.x,
though nothing explicitly to FrameMaker. You might query them.

Also, dtptools.com has a MIF->QXP filter; http://www.dtptools.com/
product.asp?id=mfqx You might query them about anything that
converts in the other direction they may be planning.

The filter for QuarkXPress import into FrameMaker was
hacked from the equivalent InDesign filter and only
supports QuarkXPress 3.x and 4.x files. Newer files
(5, 6, and 7) cannot be opened in FrameMaker due to the
fact that Quark encrypts their version 5, 6, and 7
documents and any software that attempts to break that
encryption without permission is breaking the DMCA
(the Digital Millenium Copyright Act).

HTML, or XHTML? If the latter, structured FrameMaker comes with a
structured app for XHTML. I suppose - although I've not tried it -
that this would allow you to open XHTML files and maintain their
structure: 'all' you'd need to do would be to knock up a style sheet.

Do we an import tool to import .mif files into AuthorIT

2007-04-20 Thread Gordon McLean
Don't quote me on this but I think the registered version turns off the
"Jabberwocky" text. The evaluation has that limitation permanently but I've
used the MIF import filter extensively without problem.

The MIF filter provided with standard AuthorIt is an evaluation version that
adds weird words in the import process. I tried it and it did so too. You
have to buy the MIF filter extension.

Re: Importing HTML into FrameMaker?

2007-04-20 Thread Art Campbell

I'd at least think about importing the HTML source, rather than
cut-and-pasting from a browser window. If you did that, you should be
able to do a series of find-and-replaces based on your tags
(=Heading1) for both paragraphs and characters, and then finish
cleaning up with wildcard based deletions.

HTML, or XHTML? If the latter, structured FrameMaker comes with a structured
app for XHTML. I suppose - although I've not tried it - that this would allow
you to open XHTML files and maintain their structure: 'all' you'd need to do
would be to knock up a style sheet.

QuarkXPress to FrameMaker

FrameMaker Server "User Interface"??

2007-04-20 Thread Rick Quatro
Hi Randy,

Don't overlook FrameScript as an automation tool for FrameMaker Server
development. FrameScript is only $149 per seat (http://www.framescript.com).
Even adding the cost of custom scripts, your total investment can be a
fraction of what some of the other products cost.

A few years ago, we installed a server-based version of Frame: No
documentation, little product knowledge on the part of the Adobe
customer service folks. Now, new company, same need. This time, our IT
department tells us that we need "software programming to build the
interface for the control/security/access features." to the tune of
$25,000 worth of software programming consultant time. This floored me
since the last time it was a single CD that a one-person IT department
installed in a few hours.
Has the Server version changed?
And the Adobe site says that Server needs a companion and "must be
integrated into a solution before it is ready for use. You can either
purchase third-part solutions (From Datazone or Finite Matters Limited)
or you can build your own solution using Frame Developers Kit."
I don't recall us using FDK or third-party solution before. What
experiences do other Listers have for FM Server?

Re: QuarkXPress to FrameMaker

> However, QuarkXpress versions newer than 4.1 can save backwards (usually
> without significant losses). Hence, if you really think conversion to FM
> format offer sufficient value to you, then you have to face a manual process.

Each version of QuarkXPress can only save one version back, so if one only
had version 6, one can only save down to version 5. Version 7 files can save
down to version 6, but (potentially) with significant losses depending on
the features used. However, these loses will not affect the ultimate
conversion into FrameMaker, as they are mostly graphic-related.

As mentioned, Markzware does make Quark XTs that allow one to save back to
earlier versions, but this presumes one has QuarkXPress to begin with.

If I recall correctly, QuarkXPress (and PageMaker) conversion was introduced
in FrameMaker 7.1.

If the Quark document is one long text flow, it might be easier to simply
Save Text (export) as a Word or RTF file. Quark always links to graphics
(unless someone used the undesired method of copy-and-paste), so you might
want to do a Collect For Output first.

If you don't have Quark and only have a couple of files, let me know and
I'll see if I can convert it to a lower version for you (or export the
text).

QuarkXPress to FrameMaker. All elements (large tables, page layout, graphic
objects, styles colors, etc.) are maintained during conversion. "

QuarkXPress to FrameMaker

2007-04-20 Thread David Creamer

If you don't have Quark and only have a couple of files, let me know and
I'll see if I can convert it to a lower version for you (or export the
text).

Hi,
We have been asked to used AuthorIT to generate onlinr
help. Our source files are in FrameMaker, but when we
want to import these files into AuthirIT we getting a
lot of junk text. I wanted to konow if there is any
import tool where we can import .mif files into

Re: QuarkXPress to FrameMaker

2007-04-20 Thread mathieu jacquet

It looks like dtptools' MIF -> QXP filter does the back conversion as well:

" Quick and easy way to use FrameMaker MIF format in QuarkXPress - MIF
Filter is currently the only way to exchange documents between QuarkXPress
and Adobe Frame Maker.

With MIF Filter installed, QuarkXPress opens FrameMaker MIF documents the
same way as QuarkXPress documents. MIF Filter also enables export from
QuarkXPress to FrameMaker. All elements (large tables, page layout, graphic
objects, styles colors, etc.) are maintained during conversion. "

markzware.com makes some Quark conversion filters for 7.x and 6.x, though
nothing explicitly to FrameMaker. You might query them.

Also, dtptools.com has a MIF->QXP filter;
http://www.dtptools.com/product.asp?id=mfqx You might query them about
anything that converts in the other direction they may be planning.
