We need to prevent abusing, i.e. converting the public Farm in a private repository for someone and maintain the quality level to a minimum, as said before. [Gambas-user] About Gambas Farm
Hi all Recently at the Spanish Forum gambas-es.org, we have had a vibrant debate about the gambas Farm and its features. On behalf of our Community, I'd like to forward some of the questions that deserve some discussion, in our opinion. Questions like "What's the actual purpose of the farm?", "Should we expect future changes on the farm?", "Are we making a proper use of the farm?", etc. are arising out of different points of view. In addition to these questions, some of us think that the Farm interface should be enhanced in terms of usability, such as implementing a score system and a comments system. I know it already has a download/installation counter, but it may or may not be relevant enough for the author. Also, a short comment from the users or other developers, may help to the main dev to debug his application. One of the most strongly discussed aspects is the convenience of a management or supervision of the published material, looking for a minimum of quality. It should serve as an example of some feature, it should be written using the recommended rules, variable names in english, have relevant english comments and good style, not to mention correct indentation. While some of us think that the Farm should be open to whatever type of script, snippet or whole applications, others think that only a selected set of them should be published after a proper quality filter. If bad code is published massively, it will affect the gambas reputation in the near future. We think about Gambas Farm as a showcase of good programming practices and as a teaching tool, therefore it should be enforced a minimum quality level. What do you guys think about all these questions? We would like to open a friendly debate about it. Best regards, Jesús -- Attend Shape: An AT&T Tech Expo July 15-16. Using "Application.Path" is not a good idea in your case, so as Tobi has told you, put your music.mp3 file inside the Data folder in your project tree. Now, all you should do, is changing the line: music = application.Path &/ "music1.mp3" to: music = "music1.mp3" And that's all. mp3 file is embedded into the executable and it is anymore in the filesystem. If you want to put it in the filesystem, I would recommend you doing this by copying to somewhere in the user folder, for instance, in a hidden folder like /home/your_username/.your_app_name/music.mp3 and instruct to the packager to copy those files into this folder. This way, in gambas you should simply use this path to access your mp3 file: music = User.Home &/ ".your_app_name/music1.mp3" Note two things here: ".your_app_name" should be the actual name of your application and the . dot in front of it is what it makes a hidden folder (or file). It has a wb control that acts like a sort of wizard/help thing, and the html links in that view are calling methods inside the application. The algorithm I'm using is horribly inefficient, as it uses > loops. > Hi, Kevin Well, as you know, screen coordinates start in the upper left corner and grow towards the right in the X axis and towards the bottom in the Y axis. Sorry if it's too obvious. So all operations on an hypothetical spaceship, must be done on separate axis, for instance X at first and Y at last (this is not critical, though). So the above function is a try to mimic the Mod operator which accepts the dividend (Dd) and divisor (d) returning the remainder even if dividend is negative. So, if you prefer, the arguments for the above function should read: fmod(actualPosition, screenLimit) and need to be calculated for each axis separately. ship_pos.X = fmod(ship_pos.X, screenWidht) ship_pos.Y = fmod(ship_pos.Y, screenHeight) That is! Also, it accepts float numbers and return (cast float)integers. You could view it in action here[0], though it is in Spanish. The example project is available for download at the end of the post. It consists on objects leaving one side of the screen that immediately reappear on the opposite side, maintaining speed and trajectory. For this task usually modular arithmetic is used, involving the Mod operator. As I said before, on Python at least, it works as expected with negative numbers, and not only integers. Lets imagine a spaceship in a drawing area 800px wide that reaches past the left edge of the screen. Just before it passes, say at pixel 2 in X coordinates, the operation would be: 2 Mod 800 = 2 So, nothing has changed in its position. But when the ship is at negative coordinates, say again -2: -2 Mod 800 = 798 That's exactly the opposite side of the drawing area, which is what I had expected. If -2 would be returned instead, it won't work. However this is not an issue for me, since this can be solved this way: Private Sub fmod(Dd As Float, d As Float) As Float If Dd < 0 Then Return Abs((Frac(Dd / d)) * d - d) Else Return (Frac(Dd / d)) * d Endif End So no need to modify gambas at all, ;-) Regards Jesus Guardon -- October Webinars: Code for Performance Free Intel webinars can help you accelerate application performance. [Gambas-user] Shell - commands with arguments doesn't work
Hi all AFAIR this used to work until now: Shell "ls -la" To variable Exec ["ls", "-la"] To anothervariable But now, whatever command I use, if it has one or more arguments beginning with a dash or double dash, I don't get any output. Quoting it with Shell$() function does not help. Also, I've tried using process reading, to no avail. If you would issue the command without arguments, it then works fine. [Gambas-user] Class Window in gb.qt4 vs gb.ncurses
Recently a friend of mine reported an issue that I'm not sure how to explain correctly. He is making a terminal program that needs to print stuff on a real printer, so it needs the gb.qt4 component to get access to the Printer object. But also he needs to use gb.ncurses to do some neat presentation in a terminal in a kind of interactive mode. Problem arises when the *Window* class in gb.ncurses collides with the same class name in gb.qt4 (needed to gain access to printer functions) It seems that window class in gb.qt4 surpasses the one in gb.ncurses. So, is it a known problem? Does anyone realized this "incompatibility" when using both components at the same time? Is there a way to use the printer without using gb.qt4? [Gambas-user] Byte conversion
Hi Im trying to do some kind of conversion but can't get it done. In python I do: ord(str("\x01")) Which returns 1 as an integer How could I get this done in Gambas3? This is what I've tried: Asc(Cint(Str("\x01"))) but no luck. Seems there is not an specialized function to do the byte conversion. Any clue? It would be nice if you could select a piece of code and drag it to another place in the same document. I've missed it since the beginning...
