Yep, it's fixed in cvs now.

gEDA-user: gsch2pcb can't find footprint value=unknown

2007-04-26 Thread Transistor Toaster
Hello,
I hope I am not asking too many questions. In gsch2pcb, I get the error
"Can't find footprint value=unknown" for all the standard builtin
footprints like SOW, SO14, MSSOP28. However, 0805 and SIP4 went through.
I have geda-symbols 20061020-2.
Any suggestions kindly appreciated.

I read somewhere that the footprints should appear in the home directory
at installation. Is that my imagination? I have added in the projectrc
the elements directory, but my problem is with the built in ones.
I could only find manually parts of gEDA in
/usr/bin
/usr/share/doc
/usr/share/gEDA
/etc/gEDA
Am I missing a directory?
Thanks,
Frank

Is there a way to get gsymcheck to print out the input file line numbers
with the error messages??

Sounds like a great feature! Please enter your idea in the geda
feature request tracker on SourceForge, and it will eventually get
picked up and done.

gEDA-user: bug found in gsymcheck: device !=filename not flagged

2007-04-26 Thread Transistor Toaster
Hello,
I am unsure if the geda-user is the correct list for this. I reinstalled
the lastest knoppix distro and did an apt-get of all the gEDA programs
for capture and pcb. I was running gsymcheck on all my .sym files and
noticed that it does flag the mismatch of device= and the filename. The
release of gysmcheck I used is 20061020-2.

Also, I had an idea of a cool function to add to gsymcheck: to check all
the symbols of a whole directory.
Of course, one could always do something like
find *.sym -exec gsymcheck '{}' \; |grep error

find *.sym -exec gsymcheck '{}' \; >out.txt

Can we handle this with gEDA?

Attach a graphical=1 attribute to your trimmer, and the netlisters
will ignore it.

For your fuse, that also works, but of course you must also short the
nets attached to it, either by explicitly drawing a short or by
giving them the same netname.

In either case, a text note in the schematic explaining the situation
is a good idea.

The m4 "oldlib" fixes I mentioned earlier were added on Wed Sep 13, 2006

Looking at the "tags" in the source-code control software, it seems the
first release that these fixes are in is 20070208.

This is kindof irrelevant anyway, as with that release, Dan converted
all the old M4 footprints into individual files. This version will solve
your problem!

Is it the install ISO at this site: http://www.brorson.com/gEDA/

which you grabbed? (if so, the version of PCB shipped should be ok).

Regards,

Re: gEDA-user: INSTALLATION FROM ISO

2007-04-26 Thread Stuart Brorson

I am trying to install on a Knoppix 4.0 debian hd-install version
released in 2005 the lastest version of gEDA from the .iso image.

Um, any reason you need to run a 2005 version of Knoppix?

The .iso is tested on Fedora and on SuSE. It also tends to work well
on plain vanilla Debian. Why don't you use one of those distros?

I ran
./installer as a non-root user and it stops at one point saying
"no rule to make target libgeda-pc-install"

Your pkg-config command is either broken or missing, most likely.

For all I know, you have a consumer-grade version of Knoppix, in which
all the development stuff has been removed. To use the .iso, you need
to have commands used by developers to compile software (make, gcc,
pkg-config, etc.). You also need to have all the appropriate header
files. Consumer-grade Linux distros have adopted the habit of only
giving you enough functionality that you can browse the web and send
e-mail. I suppose this is to save space on the CD.

However, to use
the .iso you need to have a distro with the development stuff
installed an working. The best way to get this is to use a supported
distro, like Fedora or SuSE. Then, when you install the distro, make
sure you select all the developer tools as part of the installation.

Here's more info about using the .iso to install gEDA:

Your pkg-config command is either missing or messed up.

Also, help us help you by identifying which .iso version you are
using, and where you got it.

At the same time, I am working on downloading and burning a live CD/DVD
