Re: gEDA-user: mail to Stephen Williams

2009-03-24 Thread Stephen Williams

For the record, and this is the last I'll say about this, the access
list that the icarus.com mail server uses is kept copied here:

The policy is simple and somewhat automatic: If an IP source sends mail
to icarus.com that is clearly spam, the assumption is that the sender
is virus infected or otherwise hacked and the /24 for that host goes
right into the list. If the /16 habitually gets listed, then the whole
/16 goes into the list.

It's not completely automated because whois information from many
of the biggest places are very very very opaque.

White-listing is an option if your mail comes from a fixed IP within
an otherwise bad neighborhood. I assume that the claim here is that
setoy.chost.de is asking for white-listing. Done.

You say that as if it were a bad thing.

Instead of casting aspersions on people with the guts to block big
providers who deserve it, maybe you'd be better served by convincing
said providers to be less of a "virus nest"? (It wouldn't hurt to
convince .de itself to be a bit more civilized whiel you're at it;
their whois server is bizarrely broken.)

No, their being big does not earn Schlund - or .de - a free pass. Big
entities deserve, and need, to be held to *stricter* standards than
small.

gEDA-user: mail to Stephen Williams

2009-03-24 Thread Sascha Silbe

Hi!

Sorry to send this via the list, but Stephens mail server blacklisted
one of germanys largest root server providers so direct mail doesn't
work.
