Instead of mac-fdisk you can also use pdisk.

I've had a problem where diskdrake did something (I was probably careless)
to my Mac's System (main) volume, so I couldn't boot MacOSX. From Mandrake
I could mount the partition using mount -t hfs /dev/hda9 but not using
mount /dev/hda9. I managed to write a program that recreates the first
sector of a HFS+ partition, but this will probably not help you if you
don't even have the partitions as /dev/hdc?.

Fdisk is for x86 machines, and doesn't work with Mac disks. You should use
mac-fdisk instead.

Good luck

It did fail, until it suddenly this morning started to work. I don't know
what I did...

The gw is on the same subnet since the subnet is 255.255.240.0

I don't know what I did, but the problem is gone. I can not emerge
packages that need to be downloaded! :-)
Thanks for everybody's advice!

Mark: You seem to have som kind of problem with PGP/GPG and pine...

Yes, I can resolve hostnames, because the DNS server is on the same
subnet.

[gentoo-user] Networking setup

2003-09-25 Thread Kasper Rönning
Hello!

I've been an occasional Linux user, and now I've decided to really start
learning Linux by installing Gentoo on my Apple iMac. I contemplated
writing to either gentoo-ppc-user or gentoo-osx but I'm not sure my
problem is platform specific so I wrote to this list instead.

The problem is I can ping all addresses on the same network (subnet
255.255.240.0) but I can't reach any hosts outside.

My hardware is Apple iMac 15" G4 800MHz TFT w/ SuperDrive. Should I post
to another list?

I found one discussion that might be related (?):
http://www.mail-archive.com/[EMAIL PROTECTED]/msg14363.html

Any suggestion would be really appreciated.

/Kasper

Here are some details (manually copy/pasted):
