[gentoo-user] XFS server eating too much CPU

2003-11-25 Thread Martin Hudec
Hi there,

I've installed X Font server (4.3.0r3) on newly compiled Gentoo, and I've
added it to default runlevel by rc-update add xfs default. Now it is eating
minimum 40%CPU. It is not responding to kill command or /etc/init.d/xfs stop.
I have 1.3 GHz Celeron computer.

[gentoo-user] Trying to configure VIA sound on gentoo

2003-10-07 Thread Martin Hudec
Hi,

can anyone help me with configuring VIA sound on gentoo?

My card is:
bash-2.05b# grep audio /proc/pci
Multimedia audio controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT8233 AC97 Audio
Controller (rev 64).

I have recompiled my kernel with soundcard support as module and VIA82c686 and
Oss sound both as modules. Then I emerged alsa-drivers and made
module-updates.

And this is what I see during boot:
Oct 7 10:31:14 amber rc-scripts: Unable to find any ALSA drivers. Have you
compiled alsa-drivers correctly?
Oct 7 10:31:15 amber rc-scripts: ERROR: Failed to load necessary drivers

[gentoo-user] boot and reiserfs

2003-10-03 Thread Martin Hudec
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hi all,

I cannot boot using reiserfs as root filesystem (in fstab /dev/hda3 is mounted
as / with reiserfs with noatime option, 0 0).

I got message while going to maintenance mode stating:

fsck.reiserfs for device /dev/hda3 exited with signal 6.
and
bread: Cannot read the block (XX): (Input/output error)

So I booted to Knoppix and did reiserfsck --fix-fixable (I am assuming that
while I have new harddrive no --rebuild-tree option is needed), it didn't
find any error at all.

Can anyone help me please?
