Hello

I have
AMD Athlon XP 2400+, 1GB RAM
I installed gentoo from stage 1 (took 1 day) with the following settings

CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu"
CFLAGS="-march=athlon-xp -O3"
CXXFLAGS="-march=athlon-xp -O3"
What a surprise:

On the same machine with RedHat 9 (i386 packages)

NetBeans 3.5.1(sun jdk 1.4.2_02) runs faster.

What is the problem? Are my flags set incorrectly?

I switched to gentoo because I wanted faster and customized system.
But If I see that Gentoo does not perform better unfortunately I will have to
try Fedora :(
Please help me to stay

[gentoo-user] Russian input in Netbeans

I've got Netbeans 3.5 running on Gentoo Linux
jdk1.4.2
The problem is that I can't type russian characters. I could type them
in RedHat8
To narrow down the problem Here is the snip from my /etc/X11/XF86Config

I can type russian characters in Mozilla 1.4 when pressing LShift+RShift,
but in NetBeans some strange characters are typed.
The Editor font is Monospaced 12 Plain.

I downloaded rpm files from redhat ftp site containig russian fonts, 
converted them to tar.gz and extracted font files, and now

but netbeans does not want to show russian characters, it shows some 
strange (I think arabic signs)

Can anyone help?

P.S. I really love gentoo and want to make it my primary development 
platform. I had many problems initially and resolved them all, except 
this one. If I can not resolve this issue I won't be able to develop in 
Gentoo. :(

[gentoo-user] mozilla cyrillic fonts

Hello I just installed Gentoo. I insatlled 
also Mozilla 1.3 I emerged freefonts and sharefonts When I start 
Mozilla and go to Edit/Preferences/Appearance/Fonts - Fonts For Cyrillic 
Combo Boxes are grayed out with the message "No fonts available for this 
langugage" What should I do? Without this I cannot use gentoo. I have to 
develop pages with WinCP1251 Encoding and instead of showing russian 
characters It shows some strange signs. Thank you
