I've tested it's stability against the nvidia open-gl which seems to lock up my box after about 8 hours of a GL screensaver running. After 9 hours of such a screensaver, I got no lock up. System specs:AthlonXP2100+ /512 Megs ddr2700, Leadtek Mobo/nForce2 chipset and a Verto Nvidia GeForce4-TI4200 using the 4191-r1 drivers. I have found that the 4191-r1 driver is a snap to update from the 3123 version. In my case, it amounted to emerging them and before restarting X doing a modprobe nvidia. There are a few dependancies that come in with the update but I find GL apps 10% faster. > On Tue, 18 Mar 2003 16:39:56 -0500 > > "Neil Getker" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > if you haven't already, emerge opengl-update > > and run this: > > /usr/sbin/opengl-update nvidia > > See if that takes care of the problem. > > > > Neil > > - Original Message - > > From: Bastux <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > > To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > > Sent: Tuesday, March 18, 2003 4:30 PM > > Subject: [gentoo-user] Nvidia and Opengl > > > > > Hello, > > > > > > I'm on Xfree 4.2.1. Re: [gentoo-user] Nvidia and Opengl????
I did but it returns that : #opengl-update nvidia usage: opengl-update note: This utility switch between OpenGL implementations. Currently there are two supported implementations, namely "xfree" and "nvidia", the implementations for XFree86 and the NVidia drivers respectively. examples: opengl-update xfree This will setup things to use libGL.so from XFree86 opengl-update nvidia This will setup things to use libGL.so from the NVidia drivers. It seems it doesn't work :( What's the difference between xfree and nvidia? nvidia work better? Re: [gentoo-user] Nvidia and Opengl????
if you haven't already, emerge opengl-update and run this: /usr/sbin/opengl-update nvidia See if that takes care of the problem. [gentoo-user] Nvidia and Opengl????
Hello, I'm on Xfree 4.2.1. I've a GForce II, and I downloaded the last modules of nvidia on nvidia.fr (I used to do that before Gentoo :)) and I can't succed in using opengl. I followd the procedure and added load "glx" in my XF86Config-4. I replace too the driver of Xfree by "nvidia". The driver seems working, but I can't use the opengl (for example I can't play raptor2 :( ). I see that while configuring : checking for pthread.h... yes checking for pthread_attr_init in -lpthread... yes checking for glBegin in -lGL... yes checking for GL/gl.h... no checking for GL/glx.h... no configure: error: *** Unable to locate working OpenGL library *** !!! ERROR: media-plugins/xmms-iris-0.11 failed. !!! Function econf, Line 273, Exitcode 1 !!! econf failed root # Therefore, the files are in /usr/X11R6/include/GL, which is linked to /usr/include/GL. Have you got an opinion about this mystery? Bastux P.S. : Excuses me I lost my english :) ___ Do You Yahoo!? -- Une adresse @yahoo.fr gratuite et en français ! Yahoo!
