:-) The thing is, the more deeper you look into things, the more you

Looks right... (actually, I'm unsure about that 200.*.*.*) but... see
below...

Yeah, not having done a lot with SIP, I had another look into that
matter. SIP seems to have the IP addresses of the clients that come
into play inside the SIP messages. I.e., if your SIP phone or SIP
client isn't aware of your _external_ IP, it will inform the other end
about a private IP on your end, since that's all the SIP phone/client
has. There is an information protocol that can make the SIP
phone/client make aware of the real address (obviously, the gateway
must support this, and the SIP phone/client too).

I would start to try the netfilter modules, which claim (I didn't
check) that they mangle SIP packages accordingly. A short introduction
is here:
http://people.netfilter.org/chentschel/docs/sip-conntrack-nat.html

If that doesn't work and if your phone supports specifying a proxy, I
would go that road instead.

[gentoo-user] KDE 4, dev-python/sip and dependency graph

2009-07-05 Thread Dale
Hi all,

I'm wanting to give KDE 4 another shot. I used autounmask to add all
the lines to package.unmask and package.keyword. It was quite a lot I
might add. Anyway, I'm getting this now.

Total: 238 packages (2 upgrades, 2 downgrades, 117 new, 117 in new
slots), Size of downloads: 390,805 kB

!!! Multiple package instances within a single package slot have been pulled
!!! into the dependency graph, resulting in a slot conflict:

dev-python/sip:0

('ebuild', '/', 'dev-python/sip-4.8.1', 'merge') pulled in by
>=dev-python/sip-4.8.1 required by ('ebuild', '/',
'dev-python/PyQt4-4.5.1', 'merge')
(and 2 more)

('installed', '/', 'dev-python/sip-4.7.9', 'nomerge') pulled in by
~dev-python/sip-4.7.9 required by ('installed', '/',
'dev-python/PyQt-3.17.6', 'nomerge')
(and 2 more)

I found the same message on the forums but found no fix for this. It
seems sip is not slotted and one qt package needs the old version and
another qt package needs the new version and both sip packages can't be
there at the same time.

Ideas on how to get around this?

P. S. I also tried the new xorg-server earlier. It was a bust again.
No mouse, no keyboard. sysreq key saved the day tho. It's running with

I use Callcentric, have for a few years now as my "home phone". It
works with Linphone or any generic SIP client or hardware. You can
sign up for a free account to test that the setup works before paying
them any money. There is a list of hardware and software with setup
instructions on their website (and also generic SIP instructions).

Re: [gentoo-user] Asterisk - need some help

In v18 sip is still present but deprecated - after this its removed.
There is a conversion script (sip->pjsip) for migration.  It required a
few sacrificial  chickens and much swearing until I got the upstream
trunk to register (iinet in AU).  Its all working good now, the pjsip
config is more programmer friendly but also allows much more complex
(read hard to follow/fault find) configuration.

Note that the CLI commands are not equivalent to sip (including help,
its now pjsip) with a different format.  After install, but before
re-configuration everything sip related disappears on restart.

Try -python in your make.conf USE setting. That should disable the
python
bindings. If you run across a package that really needs the python
bindings,

enable just it in your /etc/portage/package.use

For details, search for the "PyQt4-4.5 and pykde4-4.2.4 blockers"

Monday.

Regarding Asterisk I'm on 16.30.1 ; tried emerging ver.18 but my AudioCodes box
wouldn't even register to it.
Conversion scrip (sip->pjsip) will not do any good if the hardware (AudioCodes
boxes, Sipura and other units) are not compatible with pjsip.
Is IAX is gone as well in newer versions?

I have an impression this is the end of old Asterisk that Digium started; very,
very sad :-/
It had good community support.

Newer versions 18+ are not compatible with older hardware and learning
curve/conversion is not worth it.
Sangoma - community support is almost not existent, few folks just bark at you
if one mention still running ver. 16

I'll hang on to 16.30.1 as long as I can.

Re: [gentoo-user] Asterisk - need some help [SOLVED]

2024-02-03 Thread William Kenworthy
I believe asterisk is evolving way from a "carrier" mindset more into an
IT one. Losing support for ancient hardware is part of that. I no longer
use IAX (used it to trunk multiple instances across vpn's - worked
well.)  Currently I only have a couple of now quite old Cisco phones and
Jami softphones on android using SIP to a single asterisk.

I incrementally upgrade asterisk mostly by a clean install carrying over
config files into an LXC instance (using a golden master setup) which
has been trouble free until pjsip - and thats more my fault in missing
that SIP was deprecated and having to unexpectedly fault find it.  The
conversion script worked fine for internal extensions, but the uplink
trunk required a few hours extra work until I stumbled over the correct
syntax - too many options confusing things.

My recommendation would be to spin up a VM and install a test instance
and start afresh - older asterisk versions are usually a security risk
as time goes on.

I use asterisk all the time, but I don't use the gentoo package, I
compile from source myself because some of the computers I use it on
have different requirements and this way I have more conttrol as to
what goes on.

I have been using asterisk for some time but have run into strange problem now.

I have home-asterisk and remote-location-asterisk they are connected via
openvpn and IAX
and I use iax to register home-asterisk to remote-asterisk

At home I have two computers (main-asterisk and backup-asterisk), running save
version of Asterisk, same dial-plan, same config files, all files in
/etc/asterisk are identical
on home-comuters, I compare them with "meld"

- backup-asterisk to remote-asterisk works OK, I can call remote asterisk
internally over IAX and remote asterisk receive the call and voice is working.

- main-asterisk to remote-asterisk doesn't work well and I don't know how to
troubleshoot.

When I place a call to remote-asterisk, internally over IAX the phone is
ringing but when somebody answer the call we can not hear each other.
When somebody from remote-asterisk calls me (home-asterisk) internally over IAX
voice is working correctly; it only happen when I place a call from
home-asterisk to remote-asterisk (and only from my main-computer) it is not
working.

When I call remote-asterisk over POTS line it works OK.

I do not use asterisk, but I would look at configuration files to see if there
is some filtering of allowed IP addresses for connections.  My first suspicion
would be that main-asterisk and/or backup-asterisk has changed its address as
seen by remote-asterisk and is now being handled differently.

When home-asterisk register IAX with the remote-asterisk, I can see it on the
asterisk-CLI commend line: "iax show registry" the are registered with each
other,
otherwise the call wouldn't go through at all.

Here is the output, from both asterisks; one that works and one that doesn't:

In my old asterisk-11.25 this file has owner "asterisk:astersik" but changing
the ownership of that file doesn't solve the problem, still getting the same
error:

I would use at least asterisk 18 in all cases and if you can later
versions. pjsip has been the preferred version for a while, sip is
still OK, however.

[gentoo-user] {OT} SIP & Skype ports for packet shaping

2009-01-29 Thread Grant
I'm having great success with packet shaping via shorewall but I'm not
sure I have my ports prioritized correctly for SIP and skype. twinkle
is set to use 5060 and 8000 and skype is set to use 23399 for inbound
connections. Should I prioritize 5060, 8000, and 23399 for both SRC
and DEST? I'm not really sure how SIP and skype work through a
network.

When did they implement switch-over from sip to pjsip?
I'm using AudioCode boxes.

I emerged and tried to load asterisk ver.18 but the audiocode would not
register. I suppose ver.16 is the end of the line for me.

File a bug. There is a DEPEND line in the ebuild, but that states it
needs >=dev-python/sip-4.13.1, not 4.13.3.

I make free calls, incoming and outgoing, by a clever setup using
grandcentral, asterisk, gizmo, and a Linksys ATA. Basically, I get and
make calls with grandcentral, which forwards the calls to gizmo, which I
set to forward to my sip setup on asterisk, which is in my house with
the ata for phonenicitude. You could try that ;)

[gentoo-user] How to make binary Asterisk package

2024-02-03 Thread Thelma

How to make net-misc/asterisk-16.30.1 into binary package so I can install in
on future gentoo boxes.

I think asterisk ver. 16 (still in portage) is the last one still compatible with
sip/iax code all future versions starting with ver.18 are converting sip =>
pjsip
that is not compatible with older sip hardware.

So if I install Gentoo on a new box and asterisk-16 is no longer in portage I

[gentoo-user] package.keywords

2009-06-22 Thread James

Well, I just tried something that seems to work,
but has me confused or missing the routine reading
of new portage features.

Anyway upon a routine update (using portage 2.2_rc33
and sets for kde4) I got a message:

All ebuilds that could satisfy ">=dev-python/sip-4.8.1" have been masked.
One of the following masked packages is required to complete your request:
- dev-python/sip-4.8.1 (masked by: ~amd64 keyword)

So I just added this line to package.keywords:

" >=dev-python/sip-4.8.1  "

and it got passed that problem.

'man portage' does not show the use of the (><=) syntax
as an example for emerge?

Obviously, I'm behind on my routine reading. Is this
a no-no? Where can I read more about what's going on
with the newest changes to emerge/portage/etc.?

Ekiga 3.2.7 is the latest on their web site and it has been in portage
for just over a year, according to the Changelog. The Changelog hasn't
been updated since March, so a stabilisation request would seem to be in

The VoIP PBX has a gateway; it is using sip trunks to provide phone
service. However, it will be severely locked down on install, I will
only let it talk to the sip trunk provider and its update server and

Does "I will only let the VoIP talk to the SIP trunk provider and it's
update server" mean that the VoIP PBX won't be able to talk to the
intermediate mail server that you're talking about building?  Or would
you also allow the VoIP PBX to talk to the intermediate mail server?

This is a critical question as it determines if the intermediate mail
server needs to be in the same subnet as the VoIP PBX or not.

In that case I meant restrictions to the general internet; it'll only
talk to the sip provider's IP and the update server IP. It'll have a
separate rule to allow it to talk to the other vlan where the smtp
forwarder will reside.

Ok, thanks a lot, this for sure cleared a lot of troubles I was having on
my head.
But for the SIP stuff, I have just one client, built the firewall using
fwbuilder (sometimes is more easier), and for instance here's the SIP
part on the nat table:
0 0 DNAT udp -- anyany anywhere
200.*.*.* udp dpt:5060 to:10.0.0.112
Is this wrong?
Because the strange thing, is that it works for someplaces, but not for
others, and we really didn't had this issues with w2k3 routing stuff.

[gentoo-user] glibc upgrade and firefox/seamonkey issues

2015-10-21 Thread Dale

Howdy,

I recently did a upgrade which included glibc. Now both Firefox and
Seamonkey has problems starting. I have several profiles and some work
and some don't. Using safe-mode works which makes me think the browsers
themselves are OK but something else got messed up. The only package I
see that I just updated is glibc that might could cause this issue.
This is the recent emerge list from emerge.log:

I can see the most recent change in the eclass touching this part over
at s.g.o, as well as read the code, but it didn't make me any wiser so
far:

http://sources.gentoo.org/viewcvs.py/gentoo-x86/eclass/python.eclass?rev=1.82&view=log

But then again, it says it fixes something for the 2.1-series portage
users. Is this now broken for us overly brave portage 2.2_rc users?

Sorry for the noise. A re-sync updated python.eclass, and (hopefully)
ended up sorting this out. At least the eclass was changed, and now sip
emerges without complaints.

This is maybe the PyQt issue I did not remember. So I think it is
worth a try. If this is the case portage tries to pull qt-4.4.3
because it is needed by PyQt-4.4 plus the qt split ebuilds which are
needed by some other packages. So putting versions of PyQt and sip in
package.keywords which depemd on qt split ebuilds should solve it. If
I remember right I have this entries in my package.keywords too.
Probably you need oneshot for PyQt and sip too.

It works with skype. Please let me know if you have any ideas on
getting it to work with linphone. I've added the following to
~/.linphonerc:

alsadev=pcm.bluetooth

and it appears in the linphone audio devices, but it doesn't function at all.

Further to my previous mail, it appears that riverbank have released sip
4.7 and removed the previous version from their server already, so you
need to get it from a mirror.

ip_conntrack_sip
SIP can be NATted. Simply NAT the packets as normal with the module loaded.

If you still want to go the bridge route, I believe you need to give the IP
addresses to the bridge, not the underlying ethernet interfaces.

The USB version for regular in-house phones.

Thinking about dumping my wired line.

MagicJack is just a USB FXS and a SIP client, except that it's tied
into a proprietary service. There are lots of companies that sell VoIP
using the SIP standard and I would expect there are many cheaper than
MagicJack, because they don't bundle it up in a package that's easy-to-

You can do this with a SIP client on your PC, then add in Asterisk or
Freeswitch and an FXS to include your olde phone in the mix. Looks
like something like this <http://www.voipon.co.uk/iaxy-analog-adapter-c-2_56.html

I've found another way around it on my fresh test system. I had a working
KDE-3.5 system installed on it and upgraded it to version 4, no problem.
Then I tried to install hplip on it and got the same blockers again. By a
process of elimination I found I had to put two entries in package.use:

=dev-python/qscintilla-python-2.1 -qt4
=x11-libs/qscintilla-2.1-r1 -qt4

Then I could install hplip as well.

Now I'm back on the original system, and putting Alex's package.keywords
entries in I find I still have the blockers; his solution isn't working for
me, even after reinstalling PyQt4 and sip. Neither is my own on this
system. But then I'm getting what looks like nonsense from equery, thus:

# equery h qt4
[ Searching for USE flag qt4 in all categories among: ]
 * installed packages
[I--] [ ] dev-python/qscintilla-python-2.1 (0)
[I--] [ ] net-print/hplip-2.8.6b (0)
[I--] [ ] x11-libs/qscintilla-2.1-r1 (0)
[I--] [ ] app-text/poppler-bindings-0.8.7 (0)

...but equery u qscintilla and equery u qscintilla-python both return this
line:

 - - qt4 : Adds support for the Qt GUI/Application Toolkit version 4.x

So unless I'm misunderstanding the output of equery as well, the qt4 USE
flag both is and is not in use in the two scintilla packages.

After writing the above, I uninstalled hplip and poppler-bindings, then
reinstalled poppler-bindings and ran revdep-rebuild. That hasn't helped
either.

Colleen probably knows this, but just in case:

should find the nearest/fastest 7 mirrors for you and enter them in

Hm, I'd really wonder if that's what's called a bridge in Windows. That
sounds like simple routing, easy to set up in Windows using the
"Internet Sharing" options (which basically adds forwarding to the
Internet interface -- you could do that with a registry hack, too) and
add a simple DHCP server on the LAN side. Windows also has regular
bridges and under certain circumstances sets up those automatically.
But that's enough OT talk, this is Gentoo :-)

You'll have to continue using NAT. Drop all bridge-related
configuration (i.e. keep away from brctl), configure the external
interface to forward connections.

Then you have to care for incoming connections. For a good SIP setup
with more than one SIP client, I'd highly suggest looking at SIP
proxies like siproxd. For one SIP client in the internal LAN you
basically need to map a incoming connections on the relevant port
(5060, I think) on the Router/Firewall PC to that internal client. If
extensions or other protocols come into play, you should absolutely
look for proxies for those protocols.

Since there's only one IP, you have no bridging options and all your
computers in the LAN have to look like one machine to the outside. You
_have_ to use port forwarding or proxying.

Feel free to ask further specific questions!

I did used the ip_conntrack_sip module, and it didn't worked.

I can see the most recent change in the eclass touching this part over
at s.g.o, as well as read the code, but it didn't make me any wiser so
far:

But then again, it says it fixes something for the 2.1-series portage
users. Is this now broken for us overly brave portage 2.2_rc users?

[gentoo-user] Impossible to compile PyQt

2007-10-24 Thread econti

Hi all,

This time due to PyQt. I googled and found many problems regarding PyQt,

I'm guessing that you need to get voice messages as attachments from the

203.0.113.0/24 to communicate.  Meaning that the site-to-site VPN won't
pass traffic from the VoIP PBX.

Here's an important question:  Does the VoIP PBX have a default gateway
configured?  Or does it /only/ know about the voice VLAN, 192.0.2.0/24?
Because if it doesn't have a default gateway, then (what it knows as)
the mail server will have to be local to the voice subnet.

Was a little hasty posting...

Yes the new server emails voice messages as attachments. It also does
things like tracking staff status (in office, away, etc) and so it has
other notifications relating to that and some other features.

The VoIP PBX has a gateway; it is using sip trunks to provide phone
service. However, it will be severely locked down on install, I will
only let it talk to the sip trunk provider and its update server and
nothing else.

The keyword here being "should"

If anyone can tell me how to set it up it would be great. I've already
got an ekiga.net account signed up and I can't seem to be able to get to
call. (I think I'm not logged into the directory or something)

In ekiga i put -> sip:[EMAIL PROTECTED] (then I press connect) to the
windows netmeeting. Doesn't work.

Under Netmeeting, I put in sip:[EMAIL PROTECTED] and it give me error etc.
Seems like no matter how, I can't get in.

If anyone knows how to, please do let me know.

At about $1.50/month it's nothing to worry about price-wise, and if it
is packaged well and somehow that translates into it works better or
has family features like voice mail, call forwarding or other things,
then I'm happy to pay the price. MJ does offer some form or enhanced
911 service (U.S. emergency number as possibly you're in the U.K.
based on the link you provided) if I sign up for it which is a concern
if we were to completely drop our land line.

Note that the MJ $19.95/year includes the physical interface similar
to the one in your link so it's pretty cheap here. It's just that I
want to run it on a Linux box, but as I said, I'm happy to test it out
and register it on a Windows machine if necessary.

Apparently my SIP port 5060 is in use. Is there a Linux command to tell me

As I understand the service it's $19.95/year, unlimited calls in the
U.S. and Canada. They have other plans that allow calls to other
locations but I don't have enough interest myself.

I suspect you are right but I am really looking for something simple

[gentoo-user] Update World Issue

Hi,

On my laptop, I did an update world. One of the programs that the
update wants to install is 'sip'. I connect to my mirror and then the
mirror goes out to www.riverbankcomputing.com, but gets a 404 error.
Anyone else seen this issue? I know what a 404 error is. Would
changing mirrors help or do all mirrors run the same script?

IIRC, it's fuser with the "-n tcp" option, eg

# fuser -n tcp 5060

should tell you the pid of the process that is using tcp port 5060.

[gentoo-user] Which Fax/pbx server?

Hello,

I need to setup a fax server (on a gentoo server) for both linux

for voice also.

Which software should I use? (gfax, hylafax, etc) ?

I have several machine and modems to choose from, but, if
we wanted to use this project to put in a small, inexpensive
linux-centric pbx(voip) solution, in addition to the
fax line, which technologies (hardware and software)
would you recommend? [sip, asterick.]
The max number of phone lines is (6).

thoughts and suggestions are most welcome,

I think fuser is what you want:

  EXAMPLES

fuser telnet/tcp shows all processes at the (local) TELNET port.

Asterisk is unlike most other open source projects I've seen. Free help doesn't
exist, really -- there's just too much money to be made replacing proprietary
telco hardware for folks to enjoy educing that aha! moment.

All would tell you, at your hourly rate, choosing to roll your own asterisk
install on Gentoo is probably the most expensive option available to you.

Anyway, it can be done. #gentoo-voip are helpful folks, but unless you have a
real reason to know asterisk, really, don't bother... it's huge PITA for just
getting a phone.

Even if you do decide to kill that gnat with a sledgehammer, you're better off
with Trixbox, astlinux or something you can pretty much expect some help with.
(So I hear.)

If all you want is to use a SIP trunk, my local telco monopoly, for example,
will rent me a box to plug a phone into for a fixed monthly fee and unlimited
calling. Or, you can probably get any Dahdi compat fxs card and plug a phone
into your gentoo box. Or just get a SIP phone... plug into your router.

Basically, there are so many options, it's bewildering. From my (limited)
experience with it, I'd say that Asterisk is really more of a place to create
telco appliances from computers, not an application you run with other things
as an afterthought, just because you can.

But, then again, you already run Gentoo, so you are familiar with needless
self-inflicted pain as a pastime. Asterisk may be just for you, too! ;-)

Cheers,

Then I checked unrar ebuild directory. I found that Manifest file is
empty.

The problem did not disappear after I purged /usr/portage and redo
`emerge --sync`. So I suspect this is an error in the upstream
repository.

This is really strange. Any idea?

Well, that didn't do it - you are at ~x86, aren't you? But after unmasking
PyQt4, PyQt and sip, portage is happy again. I still wonder what exactly the
error was, but not too much.

I'm not quite sure, but might be related to bug190582

try either emerge PyQT-3.17.3

or

downgrade dev-python/sip to 4.5.2-r1

Best of luck,

[gentoo-user] (offtopic) old RH7.1 disks?

2007-02-05 Thread Bryan Whitehead

I have some commercial software that doesn't work on any version of linux
except rh7.1. However, I don't have the disks. The only mirror we have
been able to find is only moving at a steady 2.5k/sec

FWIW, The software is CSPS:
http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/voice/sipproxy/relnotes/stnlnxrn.htm

Cisco wants ~$40k per install to upgrade to a version that runs on a
modern OS. So while we write our own SIP Proxy Server... we are stuck
using rh7.1.

Any help would be great! Thanks!

(and yes, we have looked at SER but there are a number of key features
missing for us to use it)

`netstat -vapntu' should do the trick. IIRC it will at least give you
the PID, if not the process name.

Have you RTC support in the kernel for accurate sound timings?

Thanks for the replies guys. I like porthole. I redownloaded the iso [the
size was just was just wrong] butnd the cd, rebooted. Everything seemed
good as the systom loaded and the icons ticked off then just as Gnome
should have appered the monitor said "no video signal" and went into
powersaver mode. I guess Gentoo isn't quite upto the hardware detection
yet. BTW it's an Emachines flat pannel w/ a diamond stealth P90 nvida fx

netstat -anp | grep :5060

More useful would be lsof (emerge lsof)

lsof -n | grep :5060

I have a Freeswitch install on a (non-Gentoo) box at a client. That client has
recently moved to a different PBX product. I will not willingly install another
Freeswitch setup, and my full rant as to why would be a multi-part blog post.

My recommendation would be to use sip-proxy if it meets your needs, Asterisk
or Kamailio if you need something heavier.
