I do save early and often - auto save every 15 minutes. And GC has never
crashed for me. If it happens again I'll learn about bug reporting.

I think that The screen redraw issue has been reported, But I do not know
the bug number. Perhaps someone can find it and (hopefully) either fix it
or prod another developer to fix it.

On the other hand, Jack's issue of the transaction not being saved into the
book is different. If it is a case of a crash causing the transaction to
vaporize before it was saved, there is not much to fix beyond admonishing
the user to save early and often. Otherwise he needs to figure out how to
reproduce it and file a new bug report.

No, he's clearly talking about the "To Create" and "Show Created" that
show up on the SLR dialog.

This appears to be new behaviour with v3. I'm still on v2.6.21 and the
register display gets updated as it should. Another reason for not
updating, I think.

Because I always click Review created transactions in the SLR I never
noticed Adrians bug.

That is a serious problem for users that do not review transactions in the
created transactions window.

See chapters 6 and 8 of the help manual to see the gory details of how this
all works.

The scheduled transaction editor screen that you show just sets up what
happens when the Since Last Run assistant fires.

Depending on those settings and scheduled vs current date, you may see
various items in SLR .

Some of those states can be changed before accepting the results. I think
this is described in the manual.

Re: [GNC] Scheduled Trans shows completed 5/8 but not in register?

2019-05-22 Thread Adrien Monteleone
Jack,

I could be mistaken, but I’d think David is referencing the options to “Create
automatically” as the opposite of “To create” and “Notify me when created” as
“Show created”.

And yes, if the account is open when the transaction is fired, it will not show
up until you close and re-open the account. (I didn’t know an additional
transaction would also trigger its appearance, good to know)

If the SX is set to “Notify me when created” and the Since Last Run dialog
appears, you’ll get a special ‘register’ page showing you all created
transactions. (you’ll still have to manually refresh each open affected
register)

This is the bug I was referencing in an earlier post.

Regards,
Adrien

I am looking at the Edit Scheduled Transaction dialog box and do not see a
‘ToCreate’ or ‘Show Created’ flag to set. All of my scheduled transactions have
the ‘Create Automatically’ flag set so they are created. They just do not show
up in the register until I close and re-open the account or enter another

For many years it has been my SOP to scroll through the SLR transaction list,
count the number of transactions that I expect to appear, change some reminders
to ToCreate, and set the Show created flag before triggering.

In the last 3 or 4 years I have never had one fail to appear.

account - I spotted the "missing" transaction - date 05/08/2018..NOT 2019!
Of course the 2019 transaction is the item that did not post. So now I'm
telling you - via a red face - that the transaction appears in neither account!
So I'm back to square one. Shows complete in the Scheduled Trans list but doe
not appear anywhere else.
Sorry for the misleading "clue".

Re: [GNC] Scheduled Trans shows completed 5/8 but not in register?

2019-05-21 Thread Adrien Monteleone
That’s your main data file. (unless you’re using a db backend) Make a copy of
it just in case, work on the copy. It is likely compressed. If you try to open
it using an XML capable text editor, it will display gibberish if compressed,
or data/info nested inside XML tags if not.

Under the Preferences > General tab there is a ‘Compress Files’ option you can
uncheck and then re-save. Otherwise, you can use a decompression utility.

Depending on the OS and editor you are using, you may need to rename the copied
file from .gnucash to .xml.

Of course, you need to do this when the transaction doesn’t show. You could
delete it if is there now, and try re-creating it. (and hopefully reproducing
the bug)

Adrien

It should appear right away on a re-open. If not, then most likely a different
bug or a special case of the original bug. (I think the original is related to
a screen re-draw issue)

After firing the SX, have you tried doing a search on the raw XML file to see
if the data is there? That would confirm the transaction is created but simply
not being displayed for some reason.

And, sorry if I missed this earlier, but is this always involving the same

Re: [GNC] Scheduled Trans shows completed 5/8 but not in register?

2019-05-21 Thread David Carlson
That could take a long time. I have one < *Bug 737099*
 - Monthly Reconcile dates
wrong for April in some years including 2014 2015 2017 2018 and 2019>
outstanding for over 5 years. Monthly Reconcile dates precess exactly 4
days in April of non-leap years.

It may be limited to dates in the second or third week or about 50 to 60
days after Feb 29 (or not), but I haven't been able to nail it down that
tight.

I have not been able to figure out if others see it but are so used to
adjusting dates in accounts that are always floating like some credit card
statement dates that they just don't notice.

Anyway, I haven't migrated to 3.x so I don't know if it still happens in
the new series, but it is not marked as fixed.

Got that off my chest

For many years it has been my SOP to scroll through the SLR transaction
list, count the number of transactions that I expect to appear, change some
reminders to ToCreate, and set the Show created flag before triggering.

In the last 3 or 4 years I have never had one fail to appear.

Re: [GNC] Scheduled Trans shows completed 5/8 but not in register?

2019-05-20 Thread Jack Slater
OK - Idiot alert here! When I did a search for the transaction in the
Expense account - I spotted the "missing" transaction - date
05/08/2018..NOT 2019! Of course the 2019 transaction is the item that
did not post. So now I'm telling you - via a red face - that the
transaction appears in neither account! So I'm back to square one. Shows
complete in the Scheduled Trans list but doe not appear anywhere else.
Sorry for the misleading "clue".

No. Sorry. The Sched Trans is a charge against a Visa account with the 2nd
entry against Expense:Entertainment. Its missing in the Visa account
ledger but is listed in the Expense account ledger.

Re: [GNC] Scheduled Trans shows completed 5/8 but not in register?

2019-05-19 Thread Colin Law
I am confused in that case. Are you saying that the transaction shows
the correct two accounts in one register, but does not appear at all
in the other? If so then is the date correct? If so then open the
account where it does not show and click View > Filter By and check
that Date is set to Show All and that all the boxes are ticked on the
Status tab.

When looking at the other side what account is it referencing on *its*
other side if you see what I mean.

It DOES show up on the "other side"! How would that happen and what is the
correct way to fix it?

Re: [GNC] Scheduled Trans shows completed 5/8 but not in register?

2019-05-18 Thread John Bonnett
I recently had a problem like this and discovered what was happening. I
also had a problem with reconcile apparently freezing. It turns out the
same thing fixed both. I raised the latter problem on this list and
another user told me to make sure I did not have another dialog open,
perhaps on another invisible screen. I checked and found the "add
interest" dialog was on another screen. Getting that back and closing it
fixed my reconcile problem.

Also on the other screen was the scheduled transactions "since last run"
dialog which seemed to be accumulating scheduled transactions, waiting
for me to acknowledge them before entering them in the registers. They
were showing as recently last occurred in the scheduled transactions
register but were not in the account registers. Getting that dialog back
to the main screen, and acknowledging it, entered all the missing
transactions.

Perhaps you have something like this?

I think there's a glitch / bug somewhere that an SX running fails to
update
the register view.

try closing & re-opening the register, and / or GC

see if that shows up the missing txn.

Yes, it would be useful to know if you are using release 3.5 or close.
Also, if you recall any unusual circumstance during or immediately after
that SX session.

I think the only work-around would be to find the previous transaction
entry and copy it or force another entry by adjusting the SX settings.
