[ha-Safran]: Weine Classification Question

2010-08-22 Thread Heather Lenson
I am in the process of cataloging "Zishe the Strongman" (Robert
Rubinstein, Kar-Ben, 2010)

by subject. I would like to catalog under a circus performer. What
would that catalog be?

Hello and thanks to all who responded regarding classification
suggestions for In Our Own Voices: A Guide to Conducting Life History
Interviews. Jayne K. Guberman, ed.
Sorry for the slow followup.

My initial inclination was to place it in 929, geneology, so, with
some consensus of suggestions, and my own inclination and, since I'm
the sole librarian in my library I went with 929.

I received the following suggestions...
1) 300 I5 (sociology)
2) 900.07 (history, study and teaching).
3) I'd put it with other books on geneology. Kurzweil has done a
book, and there are a couple of others. I'd put it with them. - I
don't suggest putting it with women's studies, even though that's the
ostensible topic; it's about the process, not the subje
4) I have that cataloged in 304.1 JWA. I had a tough time deciding
but chose this because I consider oral history to be sociological
history (sociology is 300)and it's about interviewing women
(04.1). It could go under genealogy (929) or History of Jews in the
US (973). Hmm, I might even change mine to 929...

Thanks again to everyone who responded..

[ha-Safran]: Weine classification documents on the AJL website

2007-08-07 Thread Deborah Stern
I am pleased to announce that the Weine classification scheme
documents are now available for free download to AJL members only on
the AJL website. Weine is the classification and subject heading
scheme developed in the 1960's by our late colleague Mae Weine for
primarily small Judaic libraries, under 10,000 volumes. It is used by
many AJL members. The documents are in Word format so that
individuals may easily modify them to suit their own library's needs.

Non-AJL members and others wishing to purchase the print versions may
still do so using the AJL Publications order form, also available on
the AJL web site at:
http://www.jewishlibraries.org/ajlweb/publications/publications_order_form.pdf

In addition to the documents you will find a link on the same page to
the Weine Users Discussion Group, hosted by Google. A Weine user's
group has also been organized for AJL members. Email Joan Gremont,
[EMAIL PROTECTED], for more information.

To find the web page listing the Weine documents, click on Resources
on the AJL home page, and then on Weine Documents and Users Group
(http://www.jewishlibraries.org/ajlweb/resources/weine.htm).

Hope everyone is having a good summer.

Jane Engh, ISBN 1591024544

on the AJL online website as soon as the tech department runs the online

[ha-Safran]: Weine Classification System

2006-07-12 Thread Joan Gremont
I am posting this a second time in case you missed it the first time around.
If your library uses Weine and you would like to have your name on a
group of "Weine users" please send me your name, type of library,
contact information and whether or not your collection is online. It
was suggested that this list be made available on the AJL website and
I will follow up on this idea.

I am hoping to have all this information by Friday of this week.

Thanks,
Joan

[ha-Safran]: Weine Classification

2004-11-22 Thread esti
Hello,
I am a masters student at the Information School at UW and I have taken on
the project of reorganizing the library at the new Hillel facility. Rabbi
Dan Bridge gave me a bit of information about the last time the collection
was cataloged and also the notebook of the last student who did it. She
used the Weine Classification System, with which I am presently
unfamiliar. The booklets she had were from 1995 - the 8th edition. Is
there a newer addition?
I appreciate any assistance you can give me in clarifying this project.

Thank you,

Esti Shay
