Re: [Histonet] Question Regarding HM355S Automatic Microtome

2024-02-29 Thread Donna Emge via Histonet
Diana,

I have used the HM355S at two different labs and liked it. Make sure to
demo it or purchase it with the “E” type disposable blade carrier. No one
liked the “ER” type blade carrier. You can see the difference between them
in the operator manual -?just do a browser search for the manual. I also
really liked using the foot pedal to stop and start. The memory feature
makes fast work of. trimming blocks. When you put the next block in the
clamp, push the memory button and it retracts to the exact position needed
to start trimming the block.

[Histonet] What is considered Grossing according to CLIA and CAP? Definition?

2023-02-27 Thread Donna Emge via Histonet
I hope someone here can help. I recently visited a lab that has the lab
assistants weigh placentas and document, cut the membrane off in one piece
around the placenta, cut the umbilical cord off 1” from the placenta, then
weigh again, document the weight again, and add the formalin for the PAs to
gross the next day. They consider what the lab assistants are doing as
processing, not part of grossing. Is this correct? The PAs and Pathologists
would like the lab assistants to do this at our lab.

   1. What is the CLIA and CAP actual definition of grossing? Where do I
   find this?
   2. Is what the lab assistants are doing at that lab actually a part of
grossing, or are they just processing the placentas by the regulatory
   definition?

Thank you in advance,

[Histonet] Skin Sample with Tattoo - need to remove for diagnosis

2020-01-17 Thread Donna Emge via Histonet
Hello fellow histonetters,

We received a skin sample that has ink from a tattoo - the sample if from
tattooed skin. One of our pathologists would like us to see if we can get
rid of the tattoo ink from the sections before H&E staining. Does anyone
out there know how to do this?

Thank you,

[Histonet] Laboratory Developed Test LDT process example for antibodies, specifically P16

2016-10-13 Thread Donna Emge via Histonet
P16 antibody is soon to move from an FDA approved IVD to a LDT. I have not
performed a LDT before. I read COM.4020. Would someone be willing to share
one of their LDT workups for an antibody that meets CAP requirements? I
want to make sure I am on the right track and do not miss anything.

[Histonet] New Tissue Processor Validation Protocol / SOP

2016-02-05 Thread Donna Emge via Histonet
Would someone be willing to share their approved SOP method for validation
of a new tissue processor before using it with patient tissue? Also,
the approved SOP for validation of changes to a tissue processing program.
I need this for CAP. How do I find recommendations for this on the CAP
website for future reference?

Thank you,
Donna
