[Histonet] differences in job descriptions

2020-02-26 Thread Eck, Allison via Histonet
I know this topic has probably been addressed many times before and I do not
wish to start the certified vs non certified debate again. However, I must ask
for those of you who have both working in your lab, do their job descriptions
and responsibilities differ between those who are certified and those who are
not? If they do differ, what are the differences?

Thanks
Allison

[Histonet] LIS order entry

2019-01-18 Thread Eck, Allison via Histonet
Hello Histonet!

I am curious if anyone would be willing to share their computer order entry
experiences. Our current process is the order is placed on the floor, in the
OR, etc and a paper copy is sent down to us with the specimen. Once we receive
the order, we have to manually re enter all of the data into the pathology
order. There has been some discussion about the possibility of having orders
cross over to us. I was wondering (regardless of LIS) what processes are out
there. Is everyone doing it the same as us or do most labs have the order
intergration?

Thanks
Allison

[Histonet] pathologic staging

2018-11-12 Thread Eck, Allison via Histonet
Good morning histonet
I have a question that is more for a pathologist but I am hoping some of you
can help. When staging cancer cases (namely breast), there are 2 stagings,
pathologic and clinical As per the AJCC, the pathologic staging includes
information defined at surgery and clinical staging is determined by using
information prior to surgery or neoadjuvant therapy. My question is: Are
pathologists responsible for staging both the clinical and the pathologic
stage? If not, do you know who does the clinical staging?

Thanks

[Histonet] old cryostat

2018-06-13 Thread Eck, Allison via Histonet
Good morning,
Thank you to everyone who responded to my frozen section question. The
information I received was very useful.
With that being said, I have an old cryostat, a Jung 1800. It no longer works
as the refrigeration system has died but does anyone know of a company that
would purchase (or even take) an old broken piece of equipment. It could
potentially be scrapped for parts. I'm not sure how else to dispose of a
cryostat.

Thanks

[Histonet] synoptic reporting

2018-03-14 Thread Eck, Allison via Histonet
Good morning,
I am interested in finding out the ways that other labs stay up to date and
compliant with the synoptic reporting requirements. Our LIS software makes it
quite difficult for us to integrate these as templates. Do most labs have this
built into their LIS, is there external software or programs that you use, do
your pathologists just take responsibility for getting this information into
the report?

Any advice is most appreciated
Thanks

[Histonet] on call autopsy services

Good morning Histonet,
I am not sure if anyone can help me with this question, but I was asked to look

and perform our autopsies. We do only few each year so we are not looking to
hire someone full time but are exploring the option of performing the autopsies
in house. Can anyone point me in a direction to start?

[Histonet] billing question

2015-06-29 Thread Eck, Allison
I am looking for advice on a current billing problem.

Breast specimens: We recieve the lumpectomy with orienting sutures - 88307
along with that are the accompanying margins (inferior, superior, medial, etc).
Our breast surgeon has been placing orienting sutures on all of her margins.
We had previously been billing under the assumption that the unsutured margins
were 88305, but now with the sutures should we be billing an 88307 or still
88305 since they are margins?

Thank you in advance for your help
