[Histonet] Pregnancy and the Histo lab

2017-07-18 Thread Kimberly Marshall via Histonet
Hello from Utah all Histo folks.

I would like some input on Pregnancy and working in a Histology lab. I
worked through both pregnancies and had healthy children. That being said I
know much has changed in 30 years. So how are labs dealing with it now? Less
time around formalin? Xylene? No pregnant ladies in the Histo lab???

There is some research out there, but would like to know how other histology
Supervisors handle it.

Thanks in advance
Kimberly Marshall H.T. (ASCP)

[Histonet] Large whole eye processing

2016-10-19 Thread Kimberly Marshall via Histonet
Good morning. I was hoping to get some input on processing and cutting large
whole eyes ( horse, whale, large wild life). The study is just for diagnostic
ocular pathology with the whole eye section the goal. Any input would be
appreciated.

Thanks
Kimberly

[Histonet] Mouse brain and spinal cord

2015-08-20 Thread Kimberly Marshall via Histonet

Howdy Histo folks. Quick question. I am working on a mouse brain and spinal
cord research project. After cutting at 9 microns and staining routine H&E I
had several wash. Today I am sectioning again, and thinking about putting in
the oven over night before staining. Will this hurt the tissue?? I am new to
animal Histo so learning as I go. I am doing LFB's on these slides too, so will
extra dryer time cause problems with that stain? Thanks in advance for any
info!!!

if there is any information out there so I can educate myself.

[Histonet] Tol Blue

2015-03-24 Thread Kimberly Marshall
?Hello my fellow Histo Techs. Have a question I just know someone out there
can answer for me.

In canine tissue, we are having problems with the Tol Blue for mast cell. Am
experiencing metachromasia, or the mast cells turning purple not blue. I have
attempted to decrease time, or add time, but its not helping. My pathologist
says he has had this issue before. So question is. Could it be the mast cell
in a dog does not stain the same? Is there another stain that may work? Any
help will be much appreciated.

Thanks in Advance.

[Histonet] Help with cutting mouse brain at 9-10 Microns

2015-02-18 Thread Kimberly Marshall
?Hello Histo folks

I am starting a research project with mouse brain, I am having trouble with
chatter on the regular 3.5 mm sections and cant get the 9-10 mm to cut at all.
I have soaked them in warm water and wonder in using a softener like
conditioner would help. I am new to the animal tissue world and any advise
would help.

Thanks in advance.
