Thanks for the update.
We are running 2.1 and did not have the problem, so we will probably not see it
in 2.2 either.

Kees, APAR PI72631 may interest you. This APAR was opened up because of our
issue we ran into under z/OS 2.2. We are being told this also affects z/OS
2.1. This APAR really does nothing for the overall memory usage. As for the
memory usage, IBM made a change in z/OS 2.2 around how they handle CSM storage
which caused an increase in size. We have setup some automation to issue the "
MODIFY vtamname,CSM,FIXED=xxxM" command if we get constrained on CSM storage.

realising it you may just need to review some settings.

CSM with D NET,CSM and SYS1.PARMLIB(IVTPRM00) are a good place to start.
You may need to look at this if you've added IP interfaces or turned on
multiple OSA queues.

Re: Question about memory usage under z/OS 2.2

2016-10-11 Thread Brian Westerman
Unless your site is exceptionally large, it is more likely that you have some
other sort of problem that is manifesting itself as memory related. We
maintain a lot of sites and we have our software running at hundreds of others
and I have never heard anyone complain that they are experiencing memory
related problems with TCP itself.

I suppose it's possible, but it doesn't seem likely that your site is the only
one that has issues like this.

Question about memory usage under z/OS 2.2

2016-10-10 Thread Feller, Paul
This is one of those situation where you hear people say "we have run this way
for a long time". Well we have started to see issues with the world of Vtam
and TCP/IP around memory usage. We are running z/OS 2.2. We now have several
open PMRs with IBM related to memory issues.

We had OMPROUTE go down with an S878 and we have seen issues with running out
of CSM fixed storage. We have also seen TCP/IP get an S4C5.

Have other people seen an increase in memory usage for the Communication Server
environments?

Thanks..
