Re: z/VM FTP Question

2009-08-21 Thread Michael Coffin
To be a bit clearer, you can CD to the target destination using either a
minidisk address, SFS location or RDR (if you configured your FTPSERVE
to support RDR), e.g.:

CD MAINT.191 /*To PUT to MAINT's 191 minidisk
CD VMSYS:MAINT. /*To PUT to MAINT's root directory in SFS pool VMSYS:
CD MAINT.RDR /*To PUT the file in MAINT's RDR (if you configured your
FTPSERVE to support RDR)

File specifications use dot notation instead of spaces, so for example
if you want to PUT your PROFILE EXEC you would PUT PROFILE.EXEC (no
spaces in the fileid). And of course all the usual FTP specs apply
(e.g. ASCII, BIN, etc.).

Each disk or directory is ACCESSed via a drive letter. Issue the 'Q
ACCESSED' command to see how disk/directories are accessed. FTPSERVE
does not now how a user access it's disk/directories.

Re: z/VM FTP Question

2009-08-21 Thread Schuh, Richard
FTPSERVE is not needed in the machine from which the FTP is initiated. The user
issuing the command needs to have access to the FTP client, not server, code.
Therefore, it needs access to the TCPMAINT 592 disk. Thus, if the files are on
system A and you need to get the on system B, you an FTP PUT from system A
requires FTPSERVE to be running on system B, while FTP GET from system B
requires the server to be on system A.

Richard Schuh

RSU problem

2009-08-21 Thread Jim Bohnsack
I am trying to put on the latest RSU for VM, 0902, and was using
SERVICE. It complained that there is a PTF for a modified part of RACF
that needs to be installed and stopped, leaving a SERVICE RESTART file.
The PTF is VM64247 against HCPRPI.

I am butting my head against a wall, trying to figure out the correct
procedure from the RACF Program Directory to get that assembled and
installed up to the point I can do a SERVICE RESTART. I've tried
following, from the RACF Program Directory, 6.10.8, Performing a Local
Modification to HCPxxx and at task 6.11, Install the CP Part of RACF,
which is service racf enable, I get:

VMFSRV1216E A restart record was found in table SERVICE $RESTART.
The
   interrupted service installation must be
completed
by issuing the SERVICE command with the
RESTART
   operand.

I've tried about every other combination in the RACF Prog. Dir. to
install a modification and always seem to get the same kind of
message. I suspect that I have made an error in labeling the HCPRPI
update file on the 5VMRAC40 2C2 disk. I probably, by now have the
VVTLCL completely messed up.

Could someone who has worked thru this tell me what they did. A reply
off-list would be fine if you have a lengthy answer.

The difference is that the pages in XSTORE have been paged out to the high
speed paging device. VM utilizes XSTORE for that purpose and for mailto:ib...@listserv.uark.edu] On

Thanks Mark, Dave and Thomas. But should I add XSTORE too. We use z10. And
there is no difference between storage and xstorage.
Or RES already includes the xstore ?

RES(IDENT) pages = 256771. Each of those are 4KB in size. So,
256771*4096/1024/1024 gives you 1,003MB, or nearly 1GB. Showing once
again that Linux will try to use everything you give it.

2009-08-21 Thread Frank M. Ramaekers
I figured it out:

Documentation states that the CMS user requires the following:

IUCV *IDENT resid GLOBAL
  or
IUCV *IDENT ANY GLOBAL

When it should have read:
IUCF *IDENT RESANY GLOBAL
