SLES10 IPL...
Hello, Unfortunately, I have forgotten the root password for my test system SLES10 SP2. I tried to bring it up in single mode to recover the root password, but I didn't see the runlevel option for single mode during the IPL. Has anyone try to ipl is single mode to reset the root password? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks for your support, Alyce

Hello, I am running Spoolchn on my current z/vm 5.2. I went to the download page to check if there was a new version for 5.4. I didn't see a new one. I assume that the version I am running on 5.2 will also work on 5.4...Am I correct? Thanks for your help, Alyce

Hello, In the z/VM 5.4 Guide for Automated Installation and Service, it recommends creating at Stand-Alone Dump tape on page 145. For instructions, it says to see the z/VM: CP Planning and Administration. On page 414, it says certain files must exist before using the HCPSADMP EXEC to create a Stand-Alone Dump Tape. I can locate all the files except "HCPVM CNTRL". Does anyone know where this file lives? Thanks for your support, Alyce

HELLO AGAIN, I'M BACK TO MY SLES10 PROJECT...(5.4) ON PAGE 124 OF THE VIRTUALIZATION COOKBOOK FOR SLES10, IT SAYS IN THE "INSTALLATION SETTINGS" WINDOW, TO SELECT "SOFTWARE" AND LEAVE ONLY "SERVER BASE SYSTEM" SELECTED. WHEN I SELECT "SOFTWARE", THE SOFTWARE SELECTION WINDOW DOES NOT APPEAR AS SHOWN ON PAGE 125. SO, I CLICK ON ACCEPT AND THE AGFA FONTS LICENSE APPEARS AND I ACCEPT IT. HOWEVER, ALL 800 PLUS SOFTWARE PACKAGES BEGIN TO INSTALL... I TRIED TO TAB TO "ABORT" BUT I COULDN'T; NEEDLESS TO SAY, I RAN OUT OF SPACE... AND HAD TO FORCE USER SLES10S2. WHEN I DO THAT, IT SAYS THAT IT CANNOT BE PARTITIONED. AM I DOING SOMETHING WRONG; OR, IS THE DOCUMENTATOIN CORRECT? Hello, When I use the "smsg smtp listmail all" command, I see some files that are in "Resolving" state: From SMTP: 3286 @1 Resolving * From SMTP: 3324 @1 Resolving * From SMTP: 3378 @1 Resolving * From SMTP: 3782 @1 Resolving * From SMTP: 3802 @1 Resolving When I try to purge them using the "smsg smtp pu ", I get the following response: smsg smtp pu 3286 Ready; T=0.01/0.01 15:41:55 * From SMTP: Mail Id 3286 cannot be purged because Mail State is invalid. HELLO, I HAVE DDR COPIED AND RELABELED ALL OF MY Z/VM 5.2 SYSTEM DISKS TO NEW VOLUMES AND NEW ADDRESSES. I ALSO COPIED THE 520RES VOLUME TO A NEW ADDRESS AND RELABELED IT AS 520XXX TO MAKE IT UNIQUE. I PLAN TO IPL MY 520XXX VOLUME SECOND LEVEL POINTING TO MY NEW SYSTEMX CONFIG FILE WHICH POINTS TO THE NEW VOLUMES. DDRCOPY
Hello, I did a DDRCOPY of my z/VM 5.2 test system before bringing it up into production mode and re-labeled the new volumes including the RES volume. I created another system config called "systeml config" as well with the new volume names. I would like to IPL this additional z/VM 5.2 system in another LPAR to use for the Linux environment using fn=systeml on the sapl screen. I assume that the last directory I wrote out before doing the DDRCOPY is still intact and that it will be the one that is brought on-line at IPL time. Is this the case? Thanks for your support, Alyce

Hello, I implemented the steps defined in the PD to start PERFKIT. Hello, I am currently using SPOOLCHN and RTM on my z/VM 4.4 system. I have a userid that gets xautologged by RTM daily to purge old reader files using SPOOLCHN. Since RTM doesn't run on z/VM 5.2, which module and/or part of perfkit would I xautolog to get the same results as RTM? Thanks in advance for any replies..., Alyce

Hello, Is anyone running SLES82? If so, have you updated the timezone for the new daylight saving date of 3/11/2007 and the new standard date of 11/04/2007? Is it possible to modify a file to change the timezone? (I will be upgrading to SLES10 soon (but not before the time change)). I prefer not to add any patches to SLES82 if I can avoid it...
