Re: Replace HDD iMac 2007

2016-03-06 Thread Mark Sokolovsky
I've noticed this to be an issue with my 2008 iMac 24". The original 750 GB
HDD was greyed out by Disk utility, and wasn't even remotely capable of
being formatted, citing a "unable to mount disk" issue everytime.

I went the hard way and disassembled the entire machine, replacing the HDD
with another one, though, I feel there are other possible solutions.

Re: What do you use your (old) iMac for in 2015?

2015-03-26 Thread Mark Sokolovsky
I'll take a look at it, maybe take a picture to further elaborate.

I'm also working on an iMac G5 project, replacing the screen, for the most
part. With $30, I was able to get myself a replacement logic board, LCD,
and inverter board off of gainsaver. No single combination has resulted in
any success for the Mac to display anything, yet, as it's been this way
since lines started shoeing on the screen, then, simply turning completely
black. Strangely though, even a different logic board does this same thing,
and when I switch it up with a different display, zilch.

Re: What do you use your (old) iMac for in 2015?

2015-03-25 Thread Mark Sokolovsky
I'm currently using an iMac G4 700 MHz as a clock server. It's hooked up to
an external monitor, running fliqlo as a screensaver, with the monitor on
constantly. I'm not sure if it's the fact I'm using it solely for this, or
it's age, however, the screen is starting to show a few multicolored lines,
look's like the GPU is going bad.

Re: Lost Password Recovery

2014-09-08 Thread Mark Sokolovsky
What is the version of Mac OS/OS X is it running? If it starts up with an
Apple logo and a spinning wheel, it is running 10.2 and above. Any version
of OS X can have it's admin account circumvented by accessing open firmware
and resetting the machine to think it was just installed with OS X.

OS 9, however, would need an Install CD as far as I'm concerned, because I
am not aware of any other methods.

Re: emac 700Mhz gaming

2011-11-25 Thread Mark Sokolovsky
As far as I am concerned, I recommend maxing the ram, and installing Mac OS
X 10.5 for newer games, or 10.4 for performance. As far as gaming goes, I
have only been into genesis plus games and things like that, and they work
well even on an iBook G3 500. However, a 700MHz eMAc would need it's full
1GB of RAM if you plan on playing any games.

Re: 17'' 800 G4 iMac, suddenly no video

2011-11-04 Thread Mark Sokolovsky
What OS is it running? The very first version of Mac OS X 10.5 is prone to
whiting or blacking out the screen due to incompatible screen drivers that
came with it. This was fixed with Mac OS X 10.5.3.

Re: iTunes 9.2.1 and 700 Mhz G3 iMac (OS 10.4.11)

2011-11-03 Thread Mark Sokolovsky
When I had iTunes 9.2.1 on my iMac G3, it worked because my installation
was off of a machine of which was running a G4 processor. I transplanted it
to the iMac G3, installed iTunes, and it worked like that. When you try to
install iTunes on a supported OS version but an unsupported processor,
install the OS on a supported processor, then transplant it to the older
system. Works every time.

Re: New Mac Virus?

One question, is this trojan universal code or Intel/PowerPC only?
