Sounds great! Looks like you found a good deal too, I can't find one on eBay

I was looking at the Epson Expression ET-2550.

All-in-One, AirPrint, MSRP $400, Costco $269.
EcoTank - 2yr supply of CYMK ink, ~20cart sets.
Tank refill set is aro $58. 4000-6500 color, 8000 black pages per set.

But while surfing on Amazon, I found a refirb HP Color LaserJet Pro M452dn for
$127 (incl tax and free shipping). Couldn’t resist. Big sucker. But the

Re: Printer recommendations?

2016-10-22 Thread Russell Courtenay
Ours is an Epson Workforce 840. We can get refilled cartridges pretty easily
but even with genuine Epson cartridges the photo print quality is poor. And it
keeps clogging, I got a cleaner kit and it seems to work pretty well (takes
overnight a couple times to unclog) but then a couple months later it is
clogged again. I would like to believe it is cheap ink but it happens with
Epson ink too.

Make sure you don't expose the drum to any direct sunlight, and
generally don't keep it out of the printer any longer than necessary
to clean it. The photo sensitive coating can be damaged by too much
exposure to regular light.

These days, inkjet is generally more economical unless you are a high
volume user, and even then some of the newer full-page inkjet
offerings might be cheaper per page. The cartridge cost might be
higher, but you don't have any other expensive items like the drum or
fuser that you have to worry about.

I have a Brother multifunction inkjet (MFC-J6710DW); the feature set
provided for the cost was excellent, and even factory ink cartridges
are reasonably priced. However, the color quality just isn't there;
I've tried tweaking it and graphics still come out a bity muddy and/or
under saturated. So, if you're printing a lot of photos, you might
want to go with HP/Epson/Canon. Otherwise, it's a good machine for the
cost compared to the other manufacturers.

I’m going to agree with Bruce on this one. We’ve had a Brother HL-2270DW for a
few years now, and it’s never let us down. It was a little finicky getting the
wireless set up, but once setup it’s an absolute snap to add to a Mac. And the
driver support is still there in El Capitan.

Search on how to reset the drum counter and see if the print quality suffers.

Hi there: Our Brother wireless all-in-one is giving us a message that its drum

basic laser all-in-one with wireless connectivity. Brother and Canon seem to
come up frequently but I’m glad to get other opinions. The top price would be
$150, less is always better. Thanks!

In that case, and I've been there, try to clean the drum with isopropyl
alcohol (rubbing alcohol). Take a few Q-tips, dip in the alcohol, and see
if the caked toner is removable. A long shot but IMHO worth the effort.

I'm no expert about this, since this is my first laser color printer, but
I'm quite satisfied with my Epson C1750.
I bought it some years ago for 100 euro, and it's still going fine.

After around 500 prints it gave the "Replace Black cartridge" message, but
since the print was still ok (no fading), I enabled the "Non Genuine Toner
mode" option in the menus, and it went on printing without a sweat - and
still does.
Good for not getting sucked by the manufacturer marketing ploy ;-)

A slight con is that not all the Epson software has a Mac version (e.g.
there's a Window-only "Printer Setting Utility").
