Coba deh salah satu option ini: http://www.fedorafaq.org/f8/#otherinstall Smua option itu bs dipake smua Linux. Cara laen, coba install Ubuntu Alternate CD (installnya via text). Gabung ya... betul sekali apa yang telah dipostingkan oleh sodara Ary. Seseorang yang baru saja bermigrasi dari windows dan ingin mengenal linux jangan langsung dikenalkan dulu dengan cli. Apabila langsung ke cli maka user mungkin akan kaget. Untuk tahap awal alangkah baiknya berkenalan dulu dengan GUI, biarkan diri kita merasa nyaman dulu dengan distro yang digunakan. Setelah merasa nyaman. Lalu coba belajar konfigurasi melalui GUI baru coba ke cli, pelajari dulu perintah2 dasar/yang sering digunakan. Isunya bukan GUI OR CLI tapi GUI AND CLI. Jadi jangan terpaku pada GUI saja tapi pelajari juga CLI-nya. Bukan GUI itu jelek. Contoh: kan enak kalau dari Treo650 misalnya saya bisa SSH ke server saya dari mana saja pakai gprs (soalnya tarif-nya per kb). Walaupun kalau lagi di kantor saya bisa pakai VNC/Tarantella karena ada si flexi unlimited. CLI memang lebih banyak ke penggunaan sistim administrasi bukan menjalankan aplikasi grafik atau nonton dvd misalnya. Diskusi awalnya sebenarnya mengenai distro linux, distro satu dengan lain itu kebanyakan bedanya di GUI-nya. Walaupun Window manager nya paling kalau ngak KDE ya Genome. Kalau di Fedora cara ganti ip address misalnya beda sama di SuSE karena GUI nya juga berbeda, demikian juga kalau detect hardware baru, cara install aplikasi baru, kalau dilakukan dengan GUI maka masing2 distro menyediakan tools GUI nya sendiri. Orang sering komplain Distro Linux itu satu sama lain ngak ada standard, mau2nya sendiri. Jadi kalau saya sudah biasa pakai fedora tiba2 musti pakai Mandriva/Slackware kan bingung nyari2 GUInya apa gitu padahal cuman mau ganti ip address. Kalau kita bisa CLI, contohnya untuk ganti ip address kan cuman jalanin perintah ifconfig saja, dan itu berlaku utk semua distro. Gitu maksudnya, jadi kalau belum memanfaatkan CLI artinya belum memanfaatkan kekuatan sesungguhnya dari Linux. Ide yang sangat bagus..mengajarkan anak2 sekolah dengan OS Linux. saya kira akan mudah mengajarkan mereka Linux karena mereka belum kenal dengan Windows. Karena akan sedikti susah mengajarkan Linux pada orang yang sudah pernah mengenal Windows. Biasanya terbalik pak, Anak SD di kasih apa aja juga bisa. Kita yang sudah tuaan rewel karena masalah kebiasaan, bukan karena susah. Linuxnya bisa coba distro edubuntu. Sedikit perspektif: Banyak orang tua ingin anaknya belajar sesuatu yang "terpakai" Jadi kalau dirumah enggak pakai Linux ya bisa jadi ortu merasa sekolahnya "kurang" ngasih apa-apa. Soal illegal itu solusinya ya beli OS legal. Microsoft punya paket murah untuk pendidikan. _jauh_ dibawah harga OEM komersial. Kalau ada sekolah swasta sekarang yang bilang enggak mampu beli, saya enggak bakal percaya:) Memangnya software gratis cuma ada di linux ?:) Enggak semua software musti pakai bajakan dari yang mainstream. Menurut saya sih, Linux, seperti halnya windows, merupakan operating system, ngak ada sulitnya dipelajari oleh anak kecil, hanya karena ngak umum makanya rasanya agak asing. Masalahnya adalah kalau pelajari Linux doang, tar di rumahnya yang dipakai adalah windows, jadinya ngak kepakai nih :D. Selain itu, untuk jalankan Linux, spec komputernya harus lebih tinggi dikit dibanding windows, pakai pentium berapa? kalau pentium 3, rasanya rada berat nih. Anak SD lebih suka yang multimedia: gambar, lagu, video. Ajari aja ketik 10 jari untuk kelas 4, 5 dan 6, pakai program typing yang bagus, biar merasa menarik, sambil belajar main game jadinya :D. Labnya sudah pakai LAN belum? Supaya mantap deh. Saat ini saya dan 586 siswa belajar bersama tentang komputer disana. Kalau mau belajar, langsung aja pake linux, ngga usah pake dual boot segala. Biar ngga tanggung. Jadi mau jutek mau mumet suseh ribet, ya ngga ada pilihan lain. Cuma Linux saja yang harus kau pake. Terus belajarnya mau belajar apa? Aplikasi kantor atau pemrograman ? Jaringan atau stand alone ? Cari distro yang udah ada aplikasinya langsung. Under Linux: Dua2 nya bisa Interface Web Based: not too sure, tapi kayaknya dua2 bisa deh Full backup ms exchange: Di Brightstor kalau beneran mo backup exchange secara online, harus tambah agent/option for MS Exchange. Di Acronis tidak tahu Pengalaman: Dulu sebelum Brightstor namanya ArcServe, and (sorry) banyak masalah. Tapi itu dulu5 tahun YL. Ngga tau yang sekarang. Acronis.. tidak tahu. Kesimpulan: Ceritakan kebutuhan anda ke masing2 vendor, apa saja item2 yg harus ada utk bisa memenuhi kebutuhan tsb, minta mereka buat proposal. Kemudian yang minta masing2 melakukan DEMO. Bandingkan dengan pertimbangan teknikal dan harga. Pilih yang terbaik, kemudian bikin PO/kontrak. Minta mereka yang implementasikan, minta garansi implementasi, minta user training. etc. yang terakhir dan yang TERPENTING jangan bayar sebelum semua yang mereka janjikan di proposal di deliver dengan baik. Oktoria Yulius Darmawan - detikInet ilustrasi (ist.) Jakarta, Temuan yang cukup mengejutkan! Sistim operasi Linux dan Unix ternyata tiga kali lebih rentan ketimbang sistim operasi Windows. Temuan ini disampaikan grup keamanan komputer pemerintah Amerika Serikat. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan kerentanan yang ada pasa sistim operasi Linux dan Unix tercatat tiga kali lebih banyak dari kerentanan yang terdapat ada pada sistim operasi Windows besutan Microsoft. Menurut hasil rekapitulasi United Stated Computer Emergency Readiness Team (US-CERT), Linux/Unix terhitung memiliki 2.328 kerentanan, atau sekitar 45 persen dari totalnya yang mencapai 5.198 kerentanan. Sedangkan Windows hanya memiliki 812 kerentanan, atau sekitar 16 persen dari total kerentanan. Sedangkan sekitar 2.058 kerentanan lain mempengaruhi lebih dari satu sistim operasi lain. Meski US-CERT tidak menggolongkan kerentanan Mac sebagai kategori yang berbeda, ternyata lebih dari 25 kerentanan yang pada Linux/Unix juga mempengaruhi sistim operasi Apple Computer. [ITCENTER] linux dengan 2 ip global dari 2 isp yang berbeda
Linux saya, mandrake 9.2 berisi: Webserver Mail server Proxy server dan Firewall server (shorewall) Webserver berisi aplikasi perkantoran yg di akses dari kanor cabang Web adrress sudah terdaftar di DNS pada ISP A, tp untuk memudahkan akses karena kantor cabang menggunakan akses satelit dengan ISP B, maka di Linux server ditambah IP global yg melalui ISP B juga, sehingga di server terdapat 2 IP global dari ISP A dan ISP B, menggunakan 2 NIC card yang berbeda, dengan setting gateway masing2 ISP. Selain itu di tambah satu card lagi untuk akses LAN, dengan IP lokal untuk penggunaan proxy. Jadi Linux server mempunyai konfigurasi network : Eth0: IP adress : 202.xxx.isp.A gateway: isp A Eth1: IP adress : 192.local.Lan gateway: router Eth2: IP Adress ; 202.xxx.isp.B gateway : isp B Permasalahan: Pada saat semua Network card di aktifkan, internet user tidak bisa akses ke webserver saya, www.company.com dengan adress yg terdaftar di DNS pada ISP A, dengan symptom website found waiting for reply, lam, akhirnya time out, dengan result page not displayed coba di akses dengan http://202.xxx.isp.A hasilnya sama dengan atas.. tapi apabila di akses dengan : http://202.xxx.isp.B website dapat di buka dengan baik (berarti ada pakcket yg reply) (tapi adress ini tidak terdaftar di DNS) Buat rekan2 yang sudah pakar, saya mohon pencerahannya...
