glibc-2.2.5 with RedHat 7.2 for J2SDK 1.4.2_02
I have RedHat Linux 7.2 with a lot of the RPM updates applied from /pub/redhat/updates/7.2/en/os/athlon and /pub/redhat/updates/7.2/en/os/i386 ... from the nearest FTP mirror The last glibc for RedHat 7.2 was for glibc-2-2.4. Now I want to install J2SDK 1.4.2_02. Granted that RedHat 7.2 is not on the list of supported configurations: http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/system-configurations.html Part of the release notes says to apply glibc-2-2.5: http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/relnotes.html#linux So what I did was apply the latest glibc-2.2.x RPM ( 2.2.5 in this case ) from RedHat 7.__3__ ( which I sometimes do from time to time for other RPM packages as well ) from the FTP mirror. After applying the RPM, JDK 1.3.1_09 which previously worked no longer works ( complaining, IIRC, of a missing symbol ), ssh to the linux box no longer works as well. I have to apply back glibc 2.2.4 for RedHat 7.2 to make things work again. Questions now are: 1) What is so specific about glibc-2.2.5 RPM for Redhat 7.3 that it wont work with RedHat 7.2 ? 2) Any reason why a glibc-2.2.5 RPM was built for RedHat 7.3 but not for 7.2 ( which I guess is answered by question [1] as well ) ? -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
