[jboss-user] [JBoss Messaging] - Re: unable to connect to JBM server using SSH port forwardin
All you have to do is to define the two ports on remoting (as we use random ports on that case), and open the ports you need (or forward the ports you need), according to the wiki page. If you want to change any ports, you will have to change the XML configs. I think Jboss Portal internally uses Hibernate Query Cache/Second level cache. Instead is it possible to enable lazy loading. Though i have not yet tested commenting query and second level cache. In case of lazy loading it may help to get rid of this issue of clustering of hibernate cache. Thomas / Prabhat, any comments on this. You cannot deploy a web service in 'minimal' or 'web', neither of those configurations contains the JBossWS service. You need to deploy to 'all' or 'default'. If you don't care about clustering, use 'default'. It is easier to remove from 'default' services that you don't want than to add to 'web' services that you need. Hi, I am using JBoss 4.2.2GA and Messaging 1.4.2 with remoting version 2.2.2.SP10. We have setup JBM cluster with oracle as database. The jboss server is accessed by a remote client located beyond a firewall with a one hour timeout for any idle client. We have a JMS listener which listnes for messages on JBM through the firewall with remoting bisocket configured for 4458 secondary port.To get over the idle timeout issue we are refreshing the message listener connection every half an hour. But even after doing that, after 12 hours of idle time we are seeing that the messages coming on JBM queues are getting stuck for a few messages. Do I need to change any paramater in remoting bisocket to get over this issue ? Any help would be appreciated. [jboss-user] [EJB/JBoss] - Java 6 corrupted stream - help needed
Hi, I'm working on rich-client (SWING) based application with EJB3 backend. I work with jboss 4.0.4 and jdk 1.5.07 Recently I tried to upgrade to Java 1.6_02 and encountered a weird problem when strarting my rich client application. I'm getting s "stream corrupted (05)" message when attempting to deserialize the data retrieved by the EJB3 stub. I've investigated to find an error, and found a kind of workaround to this problem here : https://jira.jboss.org/jira/browse/JBPAPP-907 -Dsun.lang.ClassLoader.allowArraySyntax=true Ive' Added the parameter and it really fixed the problem. _BUT_ ideally I would like to use web start to distribute my application through the network. And with the Web Start technology this parameter is useless (it just doesn't read it even when supplied) and I have the same issue. I was wondering if there is another solution to web-start related classloaders (as far as I understand, the classloader that is invoked from javaws is different from the standard class loader. So the question is whether its possible to define something in jnlp file in order to make a WebStart to operate properly? [jboss-user] [EJB/JBoss] - Re: MDB calling a session bean, session bean not getting reu
I wanted to post some follow-up information, in case anyone had any additional thoughts. This appears to be a bug in multiple versions of JBoss AS, including apparently 5.0, where any time a stateless session bean is injected into an MDB a new instance of that stateless session bean is created, but never removed from the thread pool. Therefore, if an MDB makes 500 calls to a SLSB, the container will end up with 500 instances of that SLSB which never get removed. This could potentially be the source of a major memory leak. So, after some digging, the following information pointed to the ability to force the SLSB's into a pool of a specific maximum size: http://www.jboss.org/jbossejb3/docs/reference/build/reference/en/html/session-bean-config.html Which worked, for the specific SLSB which you annotated to use that pool, but unfortunately each subsequent SLSB that was called from that initial SLSB would still display the original behavior. Now, adding that annotation to every single bean individually down the stack did not seem like a great idea either, although it could be done if required. But the idea of controlling the pool was interesting, which lead me to research this more, and I came up with the following information: https://jira.jboss.org/jira/browse/JBAS-5345 (BUG Report!) http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bb&op=viewtopic&t=132763 http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bb&op=viewtopic&t=132331 Long story short: - EJB3 annotations are intercepted using JBoss AOP and are configured in "default/deploy/ejb3-aop-interceptors.xml". So, instead of annotating each SLSB individually, we can provide a blanket solution at this point to all SLSB's. - ThreadlocalPool isn't very strict, apparently, but StrictMaxPool appears to give us the behavior we want - As noted by wolfc in the first forum thread...It would appear that JBossMQ does not use a ThreadPool, but instantiates threads on the fly. Thus the ThreadlocalPool will keep on creating instances to match. That makes the use of StrictMaxPool mandatory. Which is the behavior we are seeing. To put all of this to the test, all of the Stateless Bean domain annotation expressions in ejb3-aop-interceptors.xml where changed from: @org.jboss.annotation.ejb.PoolClass (value=org.jboss.ejb3.ThreadlocalPool.class, maxSize=30, timeout=1) to @org.jboss.annotation.ejb.PoolClass (value=org.jboss.ejb3.StrictMaxPool.class, maxSize=30, timeout=1) Note: The MDB domain annotation expressions use StrictMaxPool by default! This appears to solve the problem, but will require more monitoring in the coming weeks. Any other thoughts on this issue? Concerns about contention in the StrictMaxPool? Thoughts on another, better solution? Thanks! [jboss-user] [JBoss Portal] - Re: multiple JBP instance + 1 DB (only one db)
I just saw your new question. yes, the idea is that : "put the logic in source code of admin portlet" but... bouh ! what when you update for new version of portal. Transfert the code ? many risks of bugs. lot of work. You can also make a porlet, with one big button for : "update all config". that would do the clear. And think, after each modification work, to press it. By the way : I'm not sure, but it is not a question of flush. Flush : JBP1 hibernate pushes the change in the database. but JBP2 won't fetch the new version. It does not know it have been changed "behind him". That is one of the tricky thing of hibernate : use only hibernate... or becarefull with the cache side effects. You need to tell the JBP2 cache : "the cache instances are dirty... don't use them anymore... go to the database to refresh them". don't know exactly where to trigger this in Hibernate, that's why I call it "clear the cache". *** may be use the cluster ? with each version of portal, you have a download of a pre configured portal for cluster. ready to use. with doc explaining how to etc... *** you cannot use cluster ? I have seen the case (running in prod) in a company. 6 JBP, only one database, no cluster. and many troubles... also, same thing, the webmaster was changing the portal with the GUI, on one machine. Then, it had a portlet with "the big button", to copy (batch at night) the database to the prod database, and relaunch the JBP. so the next morning, the change was on. they faced many problems, sides effects, constraints... well... for prod, with several JBP needed... this is not the best way to do. the only use case constraint that would allow this : only with a portal that change very very seldomly. Then, I guess, you don't really need the Admin GUI. you can prepare things in the XML files. [jboss-user] [JBoss Portal] - Re: multiple JBP instance + 1 DB (only one db)
Yes, that comes from the Hibernate cache. JBP1 have loaded the instance definition, so it is in cache. JBP2 have loaded the instance definition, so it is in cache. Change is made on the instance, with JBP1. JBP1 have saved the instance definition, so the cache have updated it's instance too. JBP2 still uses the cached one... hence the change does not appear. With a cluster, Hibernate synchronizes it's cache... so it works fine. I guess you may find a way to clear all the cache (from JMX console may be). But I don't know how. Note on thing : on startup, all the contents of the CMS are loaded in the hibernate cache. This is for performance, when using the CMS. so make sure not to clear this cache. I guess they are separate, but not sure. ** when I asked the question, I had in mind this : only for prod, not changing things in the portal. neither the portal definition, nor the CMS. At this time, the portal did not used the JBPM. It is used for user registration now. so this may also make some problem with only one DB. Should not, but make sure before to go further. ** And, by the way : on my opinion, the Admin GUI is nice, but it should be used only for prototyping, and making quick demo. and nice for newbee to have a sexy software out of the box. very good to get familiar with the portal. but for prod, especially if you have to instances, I would recommend only to use the XML descriptor files. using the Admin GUI drives you to some troubles. main cons : - if you have two developpers working on two different parts of the portal : how do you merge their changes ? with xml files, you can do a merge (with svn or cvs)... or also the merge is imediate if they work on two different wars. - in XML files if you work on a page, window, instance or portlet, by deleting one or even just changing the name, then the former one remains in the database. it is not suppressed. So as soon as you start with the GUI, you cannot touch the xml file, without many trouble. You may have some remaining objects in the portal configuration. And deleting them "a la mano" in the GUI is quite boredom. It is much more easy to drop all the tables, and relaunch the portal : all is rebuilt from the xml. - if you want to start from a new JBP configuration (from dev to testing, then to prod), it is quite heavy to dump and restore the database to the new configuration. Portal is producing a new version oftenly. It is much more work, and much more risk with the GUI + database. so... for a heavy portal, that goes to prod, I recommend that you use the XML files. Is there any configuration in JBoss portal that I can use to do so or, It will be a code level change? I don't think it's a good idea to have multiple instances of portal running with one DB. You should use clustered version of portal. In a non clustered version, you would have to flush any DB changes right away in Hibernate which defeats the purpose of having session. If the put fails, the next call to get will fault and go to the database, and the next, and so forth, with each of them doing a fetch of data and attempting a put. So now instead of blocking reads behind one write (gets behind one put), we'll have write contention due to multiple puts, which is what we were trying to avoid. [jboss-user] [JBoss jBPM] - Custom Context Definition
Issue #1 We would need to add some information to the jbpm s (at definition moment). More specifically, we need to specify feasible reasons for each transition from a task node (for example, in a transition called , we would need to indicate the feasible reasons for that cancellation: , , etc.). All the above at definition moment. One possible solution might be creating a (which inherits from ContextDefinition) that creates a context instance with a set of variables given by the custom context definition. In order to make the context definition configurable, we would use an xml file. Do you think that this solution is adequate or there is a built-in mechanism offered by jbpm to the same thing in a cleaner way? Issue #2 Does jbpm log each update to a variable of the context instance? How or where it does that? Hi, Verify that the connector on the session is set to JNDIConnector.STRING_LOOKUP and not COMPOSITE_NAME_LOOKUP which would be the default that worked previosly with OC4J. you may be experiencing a common configuration issue with application servers that are based on the Catalina (Tomcat) servlet container where the lookupType must be STRING_LOOKUP. Hibernate may default to STRING_LOOKUP as the lookupType because it normally runs in JBoss which is Catalina based - so it will work out of the box on JBoss. See the following EclipseLink on JBoss tutorial where we describe configuring the eclipselink.session.customizer so that the lookupType on ideally both JTA and non-JTA datasource connectors are changed from " COMPOSITE_NAME_LOOKUP" to "STRING_LOOKUP". http://wiki.eclipse.org/EclipseLink/Examples/JPA/JBoss_Web_Tutorial#Session_Customizer The following page describes the use of JNDIConnector.STRING_LOOKUP in general for all Catalina based servers. http://wiki.eclipse.org/EclipseLink/Examples/JPA/Tomcat_Web_Tutorial#Session_Customizer Also verify that the *-ds.xml config files are setup using the following section as a guide. http://wiki.eclipse.org/EclipseLink/Examples/JPA/JBoss_Web_Tutorial#JNDI_JTA.2Fnon-JTA_Server_DataSource_Setup thank you /michael www.eclipselink.org View the original post : http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bb&op=viewtopic&p=4212372#4212372 Reply to the post : http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bb&op=posting&mode=reply&p=4212372 ___ jboss-user mailing list jboss-user@lists.jboss.org https://lists.jboss.org/mailman/listinfo/jboss-user

[jboss-user] [EJB/JBoss] - Issues with MDB transactions
One of my MDB is behaving very strangely. The issue is as mentioned below. When user does some action in web it puts one message in JMS which is consumed by MDB and it calls some SB which runs under transaction. This part works fine. But when request comes from different app for the same action we put that message in jms, mdb picks it up but only this time it does not commits the tx. I commits it only after entire method (onMessage()) is done. This looks little bit strange as on of the SB's method has RequiresNew attribute which should commit the tx after the method is complete. Example- | MDB method | | | onMessage() | { |someClass.method(); | } | | someClass | | void method() | { | //1st call |bean1.doSomething(); |bean2.doStuff(); |bean3.work(); | } | | bean1 - has required attribute set | bean2 - has RequiresNew | bean3 - checks for a flag set by bean2 which for workflow 2 does not commits unless entire method is complete. | Any pointer/references in this context is highly appreciated. ---Born View the original post : http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bb&op=viewtopic&p=4212361#4212361 Reply to the post : http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bb&op=posting&mode=reply&p=4212361 ___ jboss-user mailing list jboss-user@lists.jboss.org https://lists.jboss.org/mailman/listinfo/jboss-user

Darn, that was an old post and they renamed the file, and I didn't double-check the name. Sorry. Look in conf/bootstrap/profile-repository.xml. You want to add a new entry to the applicationURIs property of the SerializableDeploymentRepositoryFactory bean. As I mentioned, you need to place the static content into a directory that has a .war suffix and the directory you use for applicationURIs must be the parent of that directory. Assume this is your static content: /opt/stuff/content.war/some.css /opt/stuff/content.war/mugshot.png Then set applicationURIs as follows: | | ${jboss.server.home.url}deploy | /opt/stuff | | In addition, you will want these files: /opt/stuff/content.war/WEB-INF/web.xml /opt/stuff/content.war/WEB-INF/jboss-web.xml The web.xml can be empty: The jboss-web.xml can set the root context: | / | Then also remove the ROOT.war from the deploy directory (it also uses '/' as the context and you cant have two wab apps wit the same root context). Now you should be able to access you static content as, for example http://localhost:8080/some.css View the original post : http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bb&op=viewtopic&p=4212358#4212358 Reply to the post : http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bb&op=posting&mode=reply&p=4212358 ___ jboss-user mailing list jboss-user@lists.jboss.org https://lists.jboss.org/mailman/listinfo/jboss-user

I did state "The JBoss Tools documentation", so starting with the link I provided, click on the Documentation link (blue box on left side of page, 4th link from the bottom), and choose the 3.0.0.CR2 documentation, and then the Getting Started Guide. That guide contains a section on installing JBoss Tools (1.4.2) Alternately, for installing, there is Downloads link right about the Documentation link - the downloads page provides the URLs you can use in the Eclipse update manager (though they are somewhat disguised - they don't start with http://!) And yet another alternative: my quickie install guide: Download "Eclipse for Java EE Developers" from the Eclipse site. After unzipping it, run it and have it do an update to the latest components. Then add the Tools URL (from the docs or download page I mentioned above to the Eclipse update sites and let it install Tools. Then start with chapter 2 in the Getting Started guide. It may be that there is a name for a tool or other technology that helps do this, but it is named without the word 'Eclipse' in it [or "Eclipse" is an Acronym for which I'm not familiar with]. Without question, that page looks very helpful; and I also followed the link to the movies: http://docs.jboss.org/tools/movies/ and they look like they could be helpful. But I don't know enough to know what to look for there. I can use Eclipse in isolation; and I've gone through the beginning parts of setting up and deploying a simple 'hello world' on JBoss... but I don't know what the process would be to work with them together. It could be that I'm asking the wrong question, and all I should be doing is completing the work in Eclipse + Eclipse WTP, generating a WAR or EAR, and then using that to deploy in JBoss -- but I guess I'm trying to make sure of the direction I'm heading before I go down one road and find out it was redundant. Hi, short answer: yes, you can use Eclipse to develop your app for JBoss. You can either use Eclipse 3.4 + Web Tools Platform 3.0, or you can use Eclipse + JBossIDE (which is built upon Web Tools Platform), but I don't know the latter, I only work with WebTools. For using Webtools, you have to download the "Eclipse IDE for Java EE Developers" (http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/), and you will need to download JBoss separately. Beware of this eclipse bug if you plan to use JBoss 5.0GA: https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=257823 Hope this clarifies some of your initial questions. I could provide you with a german tutorial, but did not find any english ones after a quick google search. Thanks max.andersen. I give the jar file when creating the connection to the database (there ping is successful). After your message, I added the jar to the build path, but I still have the same problem. I get the error message: in the list "Database schema" where it is supposed to show the tables in the database. I don't get any errors or exceptions on the console.
