My method is to note the important points in the Event Notes (eg "He
left the tools of his trade to his son John, £50 each to his daughters
Ann & Mary and the rest of his estate to his wife Joan. He named his
brothers Richard & Henry as his Executors.") and then to attach both an
image and a full transcript to the Source Citation.

Re: [LegacyUG] How do I strike-through or cross out a word?

2023-03-14 Thread B. Akin
Ian, excellent points. Yes, including the transcribed will in the notes
section of the event does lead to very long printed reports. I do always
attach an "image" of the document to the source citation as well as a
transcription. If the document item is readily readable in it's image
format, makes perfect sense. This particular 1806 English will (proved
1809) is far from readily readable, but the effort (way to many hours to
decipher) did lead to words new to me. I will and do need to "balance"
report length with ease and convenience of referring back to source
content (via source image/PDF or transcription).
I am very weak at the "printing" of reports, but I did not think
that attached PDF's could be printed as part of the output. I guess I
need to try an experiment. I do remember that attached "images" could be
selected to print out or I think I remember that.
Anyway, very valid points on method of work, something for me to
consider. Thanks.

Barry

Unless you really prefer to have the full text of a Will within the
person’s Notes in Legacy, I prefer to have either an image-copy of a
Will or a PDF (created first in Microsoft Word, then saved-as a PDF).
This can be “attached” to the person-data in Legacy.

If it is necessary to have just the text (including strike-through,
etc) then Word is adequate, and it will save PDF conveniently.

A “real will” will have signatures, etc – so a series of images is
sometimes a useful way to preserve the at-the-time changes etc.

Hello, I just can't remember how to go about striking through a word.
I'm transcribing a will in the Notes section of the Will event which
has a couple of crossed out words. I would like to include those in
the will transcription. I've tried Help and looking at Text
Formatting, but I can't seem to find. A Google search yielded some
shortcuts, but they didn't seem to work either. I looked at the
special ribbon characters and failed to spot anything for striking
through a word. I look forward to your direction. Thanks.

Cathy, Thank you for your response. I'll add comment inside square
brackets as noted. I appreciate your prompt, succinct and spot on
responses to questions. Thanks, Barry

You can't use strikethrough in Legacy. You need to add a note in
square brackets to say the word is struck through. It's normal in
transcription to put your comments in square brackets.
